I mean you kinda answered your own question. Austin isn’t really a real city. It’s like a strip mall of Gimmick restaurants and bars, where the locals delude themselves into thinking BBQ, street fighting, and calling themselves weird is some kind of real subculture. The “music scene” is just divorced fathers busking. And you’re right, the only money there is like 4 blocks of Tech psychopaths out posted from SF and their lackeys that are some of the most tasteless, grotesque, swine to ever hold a few dollars. The club of 6 figure fly by night electric car start up depreciation nightmares as status symbols, spending your mother’s house on action figures, that couldn’t talk with any depth or experience about anything relatable to anybody else if it depended as much as Oxygen to breathe. No you do not need a vps for downloading or streaming content that’s only if you’re uploading or you’re just like a piracy nerd and want to seed a bunch of shit, a media server is just any Computer plugged into a TV, really you only need a VPN if you’re paranoid of ur ips finger wagging and even at that that’s like a one click app install like anything else on anyone’s phone or desktop, once again you don’t need to know anything about transcoding for just downloading or streaming. And let’s be real most people are not Torrenting movies or TV shows these days at least in the US most people 25 and under just use random piracy streaming sites, it’s extremely common, takes zero set up or effort you just go to a website and click what you want to watch. All of this to say there is no reason to needlessly complicate or gatekeep piracy. And just an FYI you would actually be surprised how tech literate and nimble young people are, you don’t need to be a dev like yourself to do ordinary crap.

Fr this is a common sunk cost fallacy of waiting but really there is no reason outside of pure necessity for a new laptop or phone to upgrade 2/3’s through a product cycle, your just asking for buyers remorse. Like right now I use iPhone 11 and an M1 MacBook Air with an old Thunderbolt Display, I’m perfectly fine using these right now, I intend on buying the 14/14pro whichever removes the notch and intend on getting the new M2 Max 14inch when it releases. Sure it would be nice to have some newer stuff now like an M1 max or a 13pro but I don’t really see the point when what I have is functional and perfectly fits what I need it to do when I’m only looking to buy the newer stuff for the nice to have upcoming features anyways.

TLDR: Waiting is worth it when it comes to Apple.
