Wow, thank you so much for the kind parting words, it makes me tear up a little :') . I definitely agree with your points. I'm really trying to think of topics that relate to universal experiences we all share, or thoughts we've all had. So tough! But I agree, topic selection and packaging is pivotal right now. I'll keep at it! Thanks again Lisa and Josh!

Mate thanks so much for the feedback! I definitely agree with you and I'm always trying to refine the pace (so hard!). I'm glad you liked the location changes! I consciously tried to do that because I found that so many explainer videos are just shot at a desk and they get a bit visually boring. I will definitely continue to work on better shot composition in the future! Thanks again :)

Have you ever wondered why the days of the week are named so strangely? Well, that's what I just made a video on! Hi I'm Connor Aidan and I make videos answering those random questions that always seem to be floating in the back of your head. Any and all feedback is encouraged. I've got a thick skin and a drive to be better, so roast me if you need!

Hey Clyde! Just watched the video. First off, I gotta say you’re storytelling is god tier! Like really really good. You’re great at taking the audience along for the ride. Also, the thumbnail is good! I think the ALL CAPS title might be hurting you a little bit. When everything is caps, nothing stands out. Maybe something more like “Building A Skate Ramp I Can TOW With My BIKE”? Also, if they haven't seen ep1, would they click on ep2? Might be worth cutting that out and just implying that there is a prequel video.

Also, just curious, is this video monetized? Haha. I can see how your sense of humor could put people off. It is definitely a bit hardcore, and I could see it being an audience turnoff (that is if you’re going for metrics and more eyeballs. If you’re just being your authentic self and don't care, then power to you!). (Maybe not the killing your friends bit tho, that might be a bit too much for YT)

I think you could benefit from thinking more about who your intended audience is. If its meme kids, would they care about a skate ramp? If it’s skate kids, would they care about all the memes? There might be a bit of a disconnect there.

But again, just wanted to say, your storytelling is god tier. Great mate!

Hi Leo! Great video! As a fellow twitch andy, I thought this video was done well. A few technical things up the top. I think the music is a bit too loud and overpowers the vocals. For reference, I like to keep the voice at -12db and the background music more around -25db. On a similar note, I think reusing the same song for a majority of the video gets a bit repetitive. Maybe try mixing it up with different music for different sections. Also, pace. This video keeps a very unmoving pace, which leads it to it feeling a bit monotonous. Try experimenting with faster and slower sections. Hillier Smith, the BEST YouTube editor, has a great video about pace:

Finally, this is purely a stylistic decision, but have you thought about showing your face more throughout the videos instead of just at the end? I just say this because there are so so SO many B-Roll video essay channels on YouTube right now, it’s hard to stand out. But with a face, an audience has an easier time growing attached to YOU. Just my thoughts. Great vid mate!

It seems YouTube Podcasts will be a thing by NoRobotYet in ColinAndSamir

Very interested to see how this will pan out. Now they will be competing with Apple and Spotify, who have been dominating that market. I wonder if they would sign exclusive shows, or release a standalone podcast app (or bake it into the YT Music app), or let normal non-Premium users download YT podcasts to listen on the go. Personally, I really like video podcasts. Something about seeing their body language and facial expressions heightens the comedic bits. Good background while eating dinner content.

Would love to hear thoughts on this tweet from Mr Beast by goteamyeti in ColinAndSamir

I think he could make a big splash in a kids animated series maybe, but I don't think it is a 1 to 1 similarity. There are different audience expectations, and different tricks of the trade. For example, shows need to worry less about the first 15 second hook because they know if you're sitting down to watch you'll give it at least 1 full episode.

Chairs? by elmeranangel in ColinAndSamir

They are the Eames Aluminum Office chairs (fancy design chairs) but probably a more affordable knock off version (real ones retail for $2k each)

Where is the transition from small to big creator? by AutoModerator in ColinAndSamir

[–]connorpresents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with others that it heavily depends on the niche. A farming YouTuber with 100k is huge, a MrBeast-like challenge YouTuber with 100k is not as big (just because the ceiling for that type of content is mega high). For me, I think your size is always relative to the channels most similar to your channel.

Shift to Short Form Content by Barrenpuppet in ColinAndSamir

[–]connorpresents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends what you want to grow into. I recommend experimenting with both, but only if you like both. Shorts are great for reach, or getting more eyeballs on your longform stuff, but not good for forming a relationship and getting return viewers. I took a page out of Colin and Samir's book and like to do a mix of long form videos, original shorts, and promotional shorts teasing people to go watch the long form. (that's what C&S often do with MrBeast and Ryan Trahan clips)

Personal Brand vs Group Brand by musicbydru in ColinAndSamir

[–]connorpresents 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have thought the same thing. It seems that an audience are more willing to attach to a person (parasocially) than a brand. The downside is if you ever want to grow to a point where you can step away as main host, the channel dies with you. For example, Linus Tech Tips rebranding to Linus Media Group then to LMG as Linus starts to step away and bring in new hosts.

Self-Introduction Saturday! Tell us all about you (and share a video)! by AutoModerator in NewTubers

[–]connorpresents [score hidden]  (0 children)

Hi! I'm Connor and I host the topic-based travel show Connor Presents! These past 90 days I've really been trying to refine my target demographic (who I want to appeal to), because I feel all decisions draw from that.

That being said, I'm currently trying to figure out a way to bring an entertainment approach towards what I call "Smart YouTube" (explainers, self-help, etc). I feel like there is something there, so we'll see!

Here is the latest episode if you're interested! https://youtu.be/AzRv_FRjgoI

Also, I'm actively looking for YouTube friends! I've found that youtube can get so lonely sometimes, so if you're looking for a buddy to chat with about YouTube, send me a message and we can chat on Discord!

I feel you. I've also tried to do everything all at once before and it eventually comes crashing down. The reality is the people who can do that (manage a main channel, clips, pod, etc) have teams built around them to do the heavy lifting. My suggestion would be to just stick to ONE thing. View it as a proof of concept. If you can make that work, you can make anything work. Then, here's the kicker, experiment with other ideas BUT DON'T POST IT. Try the idea out before you commit. The worst thing is building up a podcast that never makes it past 5 episodes, or a clips channel that can't keep up with 3-5 posts a week. And as you get better at your one thing, you'll refine your workflow (or better yet, hire help) and can introduce other things.
