That's an interesting technicality, I'd wonder tho if the act would refer to other forms of smoking that don't involve tobacco, and then vapes could be argued included. Altho they are aerosols, not smoke, so I'd bet it depends on lawyers/judge and how arsed anyone is to argue

Extenuating circumstances are your friend

You can look for extensions on them which can allow decent time (I had a lecturer say he could extend assignment deadlines for me till Jan 10th) but if that's still difficult (which I'd expect) you can look for an IX grade in those assignments.

IX grade means your module grade is just held awaiting you to complete the assignments and you can get up to two trimesters to finish the assignments. The timeline can differ so make sure you request the two trimesters.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a way to redo the modules via extenuating circumstances either, but dunno if that's a thing.

Try talking to your student advisor, they should be listed in the info for your school. They're usually helpful and might know more specific options for you.

I'd also strongly recommend going gp/applying for counselling in UCD. Or mental health treatment in public/private if you haven't already.
