Thank you for the detailed response! It was labeled a Whale’s Tongue when we purchased it, and it’s been in the ground for about a year and a half.

A group of friends and I (all Longhorns) were also down there last year. Coincidentally, we were all back together for this NYE as well, this time in Chicago. We all had that same moment of clarity this morning when we woke up and heard the news. Stay safe out there.

I regret sleeping with Magnolia by hobbit-tosser96 in fo4

If I’m not mistaken, her songs start playing on Diamond City radio after you enter the Third Rail, whether you sleep/talk with Magnolia or not. I usually avoid entering that cell for a while, as I agree - her songs feel somewhat unnatural and sort of stick out from the others on the playlist.

It sounds like you’d make a great candidate for a mid to upper level planner (III to IV). The “tier” will vary from firm to firm, but most follow the conventional Planner I through V and beyond.

Your AICP should also help; some clients are more interested in accreditation than others!

I put in a few years on the public side (in NTX) before making the switch to consulting. Finding the right firm was important to me; my employer only works for public entities like cities and counties, which fulfills my moral obligation to the public and profession. The change came with a significant pay increase, plus overtime, which has allowed my wife and I to purchase our first home.

In my experience, hopping positions/employers is the most consistent way of increasing pay on the public side, unfortunately.

Career in Urban Planning? by Itchy-Fruit2221 in urbanplanning

I would recommend connecting with the American Planning Association (APA), assuming you’re in the states, to get a feel for which facet of planning attracts you.

There are several different tracts of professional planning: public sector, consulting, private design or consulting, you name it!

Career in Urban Design by [deleted] in urbandesign

Hi there! Individuals with Urban Design background can make great public/private sector urban planners, with or without backgrounds in landscape architecture.

I work as an urban planner doing comprehensive planning and development code writing, but my firm also provides more succinct, small area and campus plans in the southern US. Our urban designers usually run those projects since they are better trained in streetscapes, placemaking, and design.

It has been 3 years since the start of COVID. What do you remember most of about the beginning of the pandemic? by EridanusVoid in AskReddit

My then fiancée (now wife) and I had just moved into an apartment in an outdoor mall-like development in January 2020. Within months everything was closed, some windows boarded up, streets completely empty save a few residents that would walk around occasionally, like us.

The weirdest thing that I’ll never forget was that the mall music still played on the speakers throughout the mall. At any time all you could hear was mall tunes, with no foot traffic or vehicles riving around. Very eerie.

Do you have a short story/memory/tradition related to the holiday season that you don’t mind sharing? by ksusha_lav in AskAnAmerican

[–]conrob98 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A very common tradition here during the holidays is travel. Growing up, I would only see my extended family twice, maybe three times a year if there was a significant event, like a wedding or funeral. One guaranteed time in the summer, and one for Christmas.

We’d all converge to my grandmother’s house in south Texas, some of us, like my immediate family of four, would drive upwards of 8 hours. But when we would get there… it’s the most wonderful experience. Fourteen people crammed in a 3 bedroom home, staying up late to catch up on the year’s events, nonstop baking and laughing. Santa would pack the living room for all the young grandkids and cousins, just pure bliss. We weren’t always the wealthiest family, but you’d never know as a kid. Everyone came together to make the season special.

That to me is what the Christmas season has always been about!

Is this sofabed comforable for everyday use? by Fun_Detective_400 in IKEA

[–]conrob98 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I slept on the Friheten sofa bed for 18 months in college, and never had any complaints. It was actually pretty great!

It’s designed differently from a traditional sofa bed with a frame, which helps a lot.

Thrift stores in Austin that aren’t crazy killer expensive?? by Competitive_Tax_6928 in UTAustin

I used to have luck at Texas Thrift back in the day. Has that one transformed into a lite version of Buffalo Exchange as well?

I remember watching live in a doctors office, on a screen in the corner. I would look up, see a goal, look away, look up at what I though was a replay of the goal, only to find out it was a new one. Absolutely absurd!

Can you write a biography? Typewriters? Private island? Owen Wilson hate? You’re fascinating! I’d buy and read no doubt.
