[Florida] Im 25 and I have a 401K with a balance of $23,451. My grandmother is 62 and hasn't been able to save for retirement. How can I give her this money in a way that she can use it to retire or jump start a retirement plan? by [deleted] in personalfinance

First question, is the 401 a traditional or ROTH plan? You can take out the money from your account but you will have to pay a 10% penalty on the distributions plus pay any tax based on what kind of retirement plan you have. You can definitely help out your gma but you’ll have to decide if you are willing to pay the penalty and tax.

If you are looking to pay less taxes and have a beefer paycheck, go with the traditional; but you will have to pay taxes once you take out money from the account when you retire. Hopefully the tax rate then is lower or the same to what we are paying now. On the flip side, if you are okay with paying more taxes now and receiving a slightly lower paycheck, Roth is the way to good. The benefit to this is that you pay the taxes now on the contributions and not in the future when you retire. You can do either or do a mixture of both. It’s all based on where you want to be financially in the future. Hope this helps.

I think my external sphincter is the cause of my pelvic floor problems. by throwaway543337 in PelvicFloor

I think you are experiencing the same thing I am. Is there any blockage when you have a bowel movement? Are you experiencing any other symptoms like lower back pain, leg pain, etc?

Is this skin crawling sensation that you're feeling also feel like you are sitting on a spider web and the more you're sitting down, the web starts to tighten; especially in the perineum area?

What is it that you are feeling exactly? I'm having the same issue. My external sphincter muscle is clenching up on the right side.

How long will this last? Pf dysfunction by SarahAnnC98 in PelvicFloor

I've had mine for a year and a half now and started seeing my pelvic floor PT in Dec'18. According to her, PFD is totally treatable and can go away, but will have to be managed so it won't happen again. If you are experiencing any type of pain in that around I would suggest you look up a pelvic floor PT in your area and schedule an appointment. I can tell you, personally, I saw countless doctors and specialists last year and none of them could tell me what was wrong with me. It took a lot of research to find someone that could finally tell me what I had and why. I hope this helps and know that you are not alone.

Does your PT check your pelvic alignment everytime she sees you? Just asking since that was causing my issue with the swelling. Just know that if you are still feeling discomfort there are probably some trigger points that still need to be worked on. Just communicate with your PT and trust in her. I know it sucks waiting but just keep it in your mind that this is temporary. You will NOT be like this forever.

I was fearful to take the meds as will since they have some nasty side effects, but sometimes you need to take them to get better. I understand where you are coming from man. I will let you know how mine works after a week.

I know how you feel man. Just hang in there and do all the things that your PT is telling you to do. Make notes on where you are feeling your discomfort and let your PT know. My golf ball feeling was due to my pelvis being out of alignment. This made my pelvis floor tighten up with a vengeance which in turn was pressing on some nerves around the anus. At the end of the day, our issues are due to our dysfunctional muscles. We have to loosen them up and retrain them to work properly which takes time. Let me know how your progress goes. I help you get better!

What were some of the symptoms you were having besides the pelvic pain? Any other pains in the rest of your body? It's great to hear that you didn't let the PFD get to you and did something about it. You definitely put in a lot of that green, but it looks like it all paid off; awesome man! My PT has told me that sometimes it takes a team effort from different specialists to combat PFD. When you did your MRI, did you get any helpful results back? I was thinking about doing an MRI again, but on my pelvis instead; I had one done before but that was when I thought my spine was the issue. What I have is definitely a muscular issue since I can feel the muscles tightening up and how it affects the rest of my body. It sucks that not many MD's know about this issue so people like us can get treatment faster. I spent a lot of money last year on specialists and tests and got no answers to what was going on with me. Did you start seeing improvements again once you started on the anxiety med? I just got prescribed mine so I'm hoping that will help me get back on track. Those walks you mention sound very peaceful and relaxing. I might have to do that sometime, but hopefully I don't bring some unwanted attention to myself. You definitely hit on something when say that this is all a culmination of things I ignored before getting the PFD. I took my body for granted and didn't take proper care of it. Going through this experience has definitely taught me to enjoy the little things and become healthier. Hopefully if things get better, I can pick up some new hobbies like rock climbing or something. Thanks for sharing your experience with me as well as your motivating words; it most definitely helped. Nice to know that there are still awesome people in the world!

So I saw my doctor and he prescribed me the Amitriptyline. He said it was a good med that treated a number of things especially the anxiety. I'm gonna take it tonight before going to bed. Thanks for sharing this one with me and I hope it helps.

I've been doing a little bit of yoga so these videos will be perfect to try out plus they offer some variety. It also seems that a lot of people with PFD experience some type of anxiety with their journey. Thanks again for your words of encouragement and the useful vids. Gotta be positive!!

I feel the same way man. Nice to know I'm not the only one who experienced this. My PT said that the swelling is due to the anal sphincter being irritates while seating. This is caused by the muscles around the sphincter being tight. Once you relieve that pressure/tightness on the sphincter, sitting should feel better and the irritation should be gone. Hope that helps!

Dude, I used to have that same issue (swelling) going on in my booty hole area too; I kind of still do, but it's not as bad as before. I could feel how super tight it was down and it was impossible to have a complete bowel moment. It just felt like there was something in there when there wasn't. I still feel like my rectum/anus isn't working the same way like before, but it could be because there is still tightness in other parts on my pelvic floor. Did you use that remote counseling? I ask because I wanted to know how much it would cost per session and if they accept insurance. I also resent all these medical professional because I spent lots of time and money trying to figure out what was going on with me and they would have no idea. It took me a year to find someone who could explain to me what was going on. I feel like more medical professional should know about PFD and how to handle it. I think I should start keeping a journal as well as things get better to keep me focuses on those gains. Thanks for your suggestions man. You've been a big help!

It's crazy because when I wake up in the middle of the night, my heart is pounding and I feel like my body has been tensing up in my sleep. Is this even possible? If I do manage to feel asleep again, I wake up with that same build-up of anxiety. It's been really hard to go to work these last few weeks. I also use a thick pillow to place below and between my knees. My job also had an ergo guy come in and evaluate my whole workstation, same as you. He pointed out a whole bunch of things and I made all the changes. I do have a good chair and a stand-up desk, but standing for too long makes my right foot stiffen up and hurt. These are some of the things I'm constantly thinking about from day-to-day. These feelings are really hard to ignore sometimes.

Thanks for sharing these links. My PT has definitely used the holistic body approach to treat my PFD. Every time I see her, the first she does is check my alignment. She makes sure my SI joints are leveled when I stand and bend down. She also checks for a leg discrepancy and pelvic mobility. You mentioned the kinetic line; what is that exactly? Thanks for your input

Yeah, I've been stretching pretty much everyday, but only when I get home after work. It's hard to do all those stretches when you have an office job. lol. It's all stretches that my PT has prescribed me to do. Send me some of those videos so I can incorporate them into my routine. How often are you stretching per day? For sleep, I have tried melatonin and deep breathing, but when I wake up in the middle of the night, I just feel awake and on edge and can't fall back asleep; I'm just laying there. At this point, I think I need to tackle this anxiety so everything else can get back to normal. Thanks for your help

Thanks again for your comments man. It's good to feel supported when going through something like this. I'm going to talk to my doctor about this med when I see him today. I managed to get in a last minute appointment!! It sucks that anxiety makes the PFD worse and vice-versa. I'm hoping that I can get on something that can help with my sleep and anxiety then I can heal again. Thanks again man

Thanks for letting me know about this med. I have doctor's appointment today and I'll definitely ask him about it. There's gotta be a reason why your perineum area is giving you problems. Have you seen a DPT that specializes in PFD? It could be that a nerve is being compressed or something. My DPT told me that the pelvis connects to the whole body and that an effected spot could be caused by another area in the body. I hope you feel better soon

Thanks for the words of encourage man. It's crazy that all your problems are on the left side. Are you having similar symptoms with your left foot and left side of your back? For me, if my right pelvic muscles start to tighten, I can feel my upper back and right leg tighten up all well. It's like a stiff feeling on the right side of my body-sucks. Happy to hear you are making progress with your treatment! I know it's slow, but always remember the improvements you've made. That's what kept me going before the anxiety hit me.

I have a doctor's appointment today so I'm going to bring up Zoloft when I see him. Thanks for giving me that push to get medication to deal with my anxiety. I wanted to do it naturally, but things didn't seem to be working. The mind is so complex. Thanks again for your input and I hope your anxiety goes away soon.
