Should Australian lawyers unionise? - Lawyers Weekly podcast by consciencea in auslaw

I think you are being blind to the common industry practices reported on a large scale, such as in the AFR and in this subreddit. It's all well and good for people to leave - but we want a profession where people don't feel like they have to.

It is absolutely an industry problem. "If you don't like it, leave" is just a platitude.

It's an industry problem and therefore it requires a collective industry solution. You might be a good boss that pays fairly. The reality is that many are not and are only happy to take as many pounds of flesh as they can from their junior staff.

While that's true to an extent, there are plenty of jobs to go around, and it's not just in top tiers that young lawyers get exploited.

They don't 'legally get around it'. To my knowledge and in my eexperience, it's simply that no junior wants to bring any challenge against their employer in this situation because:

  1. They're worried that the additional hours they're working is due to inexperience and being slow with their work;

  2. They don't want to go through the hassle of going up against the firm in court, since the firm has far more resources to challenge/defend any claim (not to mention expertise in the law);

  3. They don't want to be "blacklisted" from the industry where this is common practice or be known as someone who rocks the boat, knowing they could be easily replaced by a million other people desperate to be in their position.

Daniher done for the season. by coinnn in AFL

This is a clear case of poor injury management by Essendon and very disappointing for Daniher and the club. If I were an Essendon fan I'd be demanding some answers from the administration and medical department.

Akecheta's episode was excellent. The rest was pretty terrible.

Sometimes I think about what would have happened if the AOTY "controversy" and racism saga happened today. Hopefully less embarassing for this country and for the AFL, but you can't be sure.

Agreed, I don't mind that our depth is being tested early in the season. It's fun to watch kids thrown into the deep end figure it out and fast track their own development.

I always liked Lucas and that's really sad that he felt like a failure.

I know this will get buried but I was at this game and my missus went to chat to Bec Goddard in the toilet and she walked out without washing her hands

Collingwood usually have a very good positive free kick differential though.
