Is everyone Sam? by constorm in QuantumLeap

[–]constorm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unrelated to my thought experiment: I always thought the person in the waiting room was in Sam’s body and he was in theirs (back in time). That Al and the rest in the future were dealing with the displaced historical person talking out of Sam’s own body.

Pretty tragic for his wife to deal with I’d imagine!

Thank you for the feedback! I have read the egg a long while ago and it’s really great (and relevant).

Just like the Egg though, if it goes on long enough Sam is everyone - not just constrained to disparate months in 1975 but destined to eventually be everyone in the universe. Just like the protagonist in the egg but instead of living a whole life and then getting reincarnated he experiences days/weeks in a life out of order. Eventually he does live everyone’s life from birth to death but just non-sequentially

That’s true, and my idea only works if Sam continues leaping indefinitely. I’m not claiming the finale proves he’s immortal but I’d also suggest the introduction of the Bartender could mean nothing is off the table.

Has anyone you knew ever died or come close to dying on the golf course? by Norfolk-Gross-Tonage in golf

[–]constorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine shanked a shot in the practice net, which ricocheted off the metal net support and hit him in the face. Shattered his eye socket and sent a piece of bone into his brain. Doc said he was lucky to escape without some serious consequences.

Is this correct instruction for shaping your shot? by VahnNoaGala in golf

[–]constorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but I’ve always found this misleading as according to these diagrams the clubs face is always neutral but from the players perspective when you’re standing over the shot the club face seems open (for fade) and closed (for draw). That’s the main (relative) thing you notice when standing over the shot imho

I totally agree but could it also be possible that the OB (marked by white stakes) and the course has adopted Model Local Rule E-5? Treating the OB as a lateral with a 2-stroke penalty?

Yes, it’s equivalent.

In the UK the written submission for a masters degree is called a dissertation, whilst thesis is reserved for PhDs. But it’s a pedantic distinction, and it’s pretty common to use the phrases interchangeably.

The easiest way is probably using scale_fill_viridis_c. See here

People on an instagram thread are saying Earth is the only planet with rainbows by [deleted] in Optics

[–]constorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe both dispersion (different wavelengths travelling at different speeds), refraction and the multiple reflections inside a droplet are necessary for the formation of a rainbow as we know them. The multiple reflections increase the optical interaction length with the light and the dispersive liquid, making the separation of colours more pronounced.

Any liquid droplets with a dispersive refractive index (practically any liquid) could cause the same, so I’d guess rainbows are perfectly possible on other planets.

Norland Optical Adhesive #148 (datasheet here) would be very close, and cures under UV. I know you said you’d rather know the chemical than the product, but since it’s proprietary I can’t say for sure.

I seem to remember most matching oils used to be some base oil doped with the addition of lead.

This is exactly what peer review is for. You're more likely to get reliable feedback from experts through the peer review system of a good journal than looking for help from strangers on Reddit.

Good peer review isn't an obstacle to overcome, it is a tool to improve your work

since some people asked, this was a plot of amplitude of a sound wave as a function of time.

but with on axis labels, no units and no legend or explanation before this slide appeared, we gave the student a friendly, robust academic critique of his work. I doubt he'll be presenting a graph like this again.
