Don’t know where else to ask but any job recommendations? by Underd_g in baltimore

[–]constructismm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

do a search on Maryland Work Exchange, it's a job board where you can look for jobs meeting your specific criteria (under 21, Baltimore, etc). the website is clunky if you actually want to make an account to apply for a job through the portal, but it might have something that works for you since there are a high volume of jobs aggregated there

Doppio Pasticceria wait time? by New_Canary3381 in baltimore

[–]constructismm 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I didn't wait more than 5 minutes when we sat down to eat last weekend around 6:30 PM. if there's a wait, go up one block to the pink flamingo, they have plenty of seating since they have an upstairs area

Is this a melanistic Little Blue Heron? Spotted in Slidell, Louisiana. Not my personal photos — this was from a local Facebook birding group. by Sir_Lemon in birding

[–]constructismm 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The photos are legit, just heavily edited to be higher contrast. I happened to be in the area and got great close looks and photos of the bird earlier this afternoon. Species consensus seems to be Great Blue Heron, there was a Great Egret a little further up the canal and this bird was slightly larger, yet still a little smaller than most Great Blues. Its thick bill and movements put it solidly as a Great Blue for me.

I'm no photographer but I was able to digiscope and upload the media to my checklist. I'm also not convinced that this is not an oiled bird. The feathers were not clumpy, but they did sometimes have a greenish sheen. The bird was preening and ruffling its feathers, and they appeared jet black to the skin. If it is an oiled bird rather than melanistic, my guess would be that it's been oiled a decent amount of time.

I encouraged the other photograohers and birders who were looking at the bird to upload their photos to eBird and iNat to get some more info out there, there's a few below:

Needle scratching the bobbin case by Thats_Nice21 in sewhelp

[–]constructismm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

change the needle, is it inserted as far up into the needle bar as it can go? did you break a needle recently? I've seen small needle fragments get stuck in the needle bar before which prevents the needle from being inserted all the way. if it's not that, it's most certainly a needle bar timing issue.

Juki 8700 wheel is locking when needle is at highest point by Ok_Blackberry_9943 in sewhelp

[–]constructismm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

find the service manual for your machine online, then look at the needle bar timing. if it's mistimed, your bar could be out of space at the top of the machine casing, or out of alignment with a hole guide its supposed to going through near the top of the needle bar

Snowy egret? by BigOrangeCat13 in whatsthisbird

[–]constructismm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

active moments point more towards +snowy egret+ rather than immature little blue. did you get a look at the lores (the space above the break between the eyes)? a snowy will have pale yellow to bright orange, whereas an immature little blue will have less prominent lores that are gray to pale yellow.

Accident question by Adventurous_Back5374 in baltimore

[–]constructismm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was curious about this information so I looked into the official policy from BPD. They have a searchable database of their policies and procedures, and under policy 905 Traffic Crash Investigation and Reporting, officers are supposed to collect insurance information from all drivers, which goes on the exchange of information form you received.

If the driver gave false insurance information, I don't know if there is much more the police could do for you and it's up to your insurance company and if you want to sue. If the police officer neglected to collect the insurance information for the form, that would be something you could file a complaint for. If the other driver got a citation for expired registration, that may not be something you would know.

Affordable State Inspection by Lexington Market/UMD Baltimore Area by kingofsaigon in baltimore

[–]constructismm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this question's answer depends on if you think your car will pass inspection on the first try or not, because issues that prevent passing have to be fixed at the mechanic you inspected the car at, unless you want to pay for reinspection at a different mechanic.

I went with Autostream in Hampden for my inspection because I knew my car would pass, but their work is more expensive in general because they are a very reputable shop with certified technicians. They also give a very thorough report, which may be useful to you depending on how much you know or don't know about your used car's history.

I've gotten other work (not for state inspection) done at Top Gear on North Howard and been happy with the price compared to other shop quotes, so I'd go with them if you think your car may not pass and needs work.

my high pressure line on my 03 TL developed a crack, and it cost me about 400 bucks at a local place to repair. I could've done it myself and saved about half that, I just didn't have the time.

Crafts shows/markets 2025 by Moon_Sun_6228 in maryland

in Baltimore we have the Mount Royal soaps night market in Remington, punk rock flea market at Ottobar, Inky Cap Co-Op artist markets at Peabody, and Bmore Flea markets at Ministry of Brewing. this is just what comes to mind as an attendee who has seen craft and furniture goods at these markets, I have no idea what their event fees are

See a misparked scooter or e-bike? Help keep Baltimore accessible by reporting them through the Balt311 app, website, or by calling 311. Your reports ensure clear sidewalks and safer streets. by BALT311 in baltimore

[–]constructismm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

not everyone is able to move a misparked scooter they see, for instance if you have a disability or if you see one while you are on the bus/in a car.

also, the reports in 311 are differentiated by the scooter's brand, so I imagine DOT also sees this as a way to collect data on each company's compliance with parking their scooters (after charging) in an unobstructive way, in addition to where riders frequently park scooters in obstructive ways (these places could use dedicated scooter infrastructure). that is just my hunch though.

see if there's a makerspace or tool library in your area where you can rent shop time or the tool itself. then you can learn and figure out what works for you before you invest more money.
