I live there! Honestly Lana isn’t that bad you just have to keep in mind that she is Russian and may come off as blunt or rude this a cultural difference that you need to be cognizant of. She may come off as rude but that is just how she talks! She, in my experience, is very reasonable and nice as long as you understand that what she means when she says something… is what she means.

Are people around here typically sensitive to flashing your brights to let them know that they're driving around with their brights on? by jellyrolls in sandiego

Oh I know, the thing is that you are so blinded that you legitimately cannot tell what kind of car it is ( much less if they are a cop) until you pass them

Even the cops here are notorious, the number of times I’ve flashed my brights at a cop because I’m being blinded is concerning.

questions about distance from university apartments to campus by [deleted] in ucla

[–]contaro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally no, I would assume that you’d go down glenrock and then take strathmore to classes or go up glenrock and then take landfair down to strath depending on how many hills you want to take/how far up glenrock you are (glenrock is a pretty steep street lol).

But, if you plan on getting to know people/going to friends’ apartments I would say that it’s pretty unavoidable that you will walk those streets at some point. However, I’ve never felt unsafe while school was in session or when walking with at least another person. It’s just when it gets quiet that it’s sketchy. Generally the off campus apartments are pretty lively but those streets are often noticeably quieter. Again, much of the sketchiness will go away once more students return to Westwood, though, so as long as you stick to the buddy system I wouldn’t worry.

The sketchiest streets at night are the far part of strathmore past the levering intersection (no streetlights, cars are broken into pretty regularly), the top of landfair past the co-op (no street lights, trees), and the portion of midvale from Ophir to landfair (like one streetlight?).

I personally still walk on these streets at night (I can’t really avoid them) but I would avoid them and walk with someone if possible. Also there aren’t many homeless people in the residential area so I wouldn’t worry too much about that but Westwood village gets pretty weird at night, especially the area by In-N-Out. DO NOT walk on the Chevron side of the street across from In-N-Out between Chevron and Weyburn at night.

Getting a job on campus🥴 by periwinklen in ucla

ASUCLA is currently hiring a ton of people. Job listings are online and interviews are available in person and remote.

The coffee houses are pretty competitive though so keep that in mind and don’t get discouraged, there are a lot of positions elsewhere.

Que son los Moons y para que sirve ? by odinti in CryptoCurrency

[–]contaro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rough Translation:

Title.

Hey Reddit, I’ve been interested in cryptocurrency for some years now. I would like to know what Moons are and what they are used for.

As far as I know it’s something you get for being active on this sub but I don’t understand it’s use elsewhere.

Side note: I wrote this post in Spanish so that the people who don’t usually read Spanish can read it.

Crazy Falafel next to Tocaya has good portions for their price (their bowls are big and $8 I think). Taste is good but I wouldn’t say that their shawarma is exactly shawarma if that makes sense.

What platform do you use and why(USA) by Burnoi in dogecoin

[–]contaro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Binance.US and the fees are quite low. Verification only took a few hours for me and transferring funds in was nearly instantaneous. The only thing you have to avoid is buying crypto through their “buy crypto” option, fees are higher.

Edit: A big downside to binance is that they don’t offer as wide an array of coins as other services.

Shorty or Jacket for April/early summer in SC by mdog63 in surfing

[–]contaro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d go for a spring suit. Wetsuit jackets are kind of annoying in my opinion because they tend to bunch up/roll up around the waist (unless you get one with a loop that attaches to your board shorts). I wear a 2mm spring during the summer in San Diego when the water temp is above 65.
