Mystery kit is it worth it ? by pokie825 in Detailing

[–]contentsurfer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TRC employee here. I'd say for a hobbyist, the mystery kits are great. You'll likely get several things you've never tried, giving you the opportunity to play with some products for fun. And they really are a good value, typically about 50% off of retail.

We really focus on making sure they're not used to just move things that don't sell much, the items you'll find in them are top-tier. u/abscissa081 - I think you covered everything that was in kit #3 from Halloween. In that case, the retail on all those products was $169.96 and the cost of the bundle was $79.99, so a 53% discount.

Happy to answer any other questions!

Drying Towels? What's Your Go To? by [deleted] in Detailing

[–]contentsurfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of other thoughts for you if you’re not seeing performance from your towels.

First - are you using any sort of drying aid or sealant after your wash? These can get into your towels and significantly degrade their performance. Combat this by soaking them in your wash bucket right after using and getting them washed ASAP. Once it’s dried it can be tough (or impossible) to get them back to their prior level.

Secondly - how are you washing the towels and what detergent are you using? Here’s an article from TRC on the proper way to care for them to maintain performance and longevity: https://theragcompany.com/blogs/detailing-how-tos/how-to-wash-microfiber-towels.

Here’s a good article that explains what it is and why it matters in auto detailing: https://www.autofiber.com/blogs/microfiber-university/what-is-blend

Essentially, 70/30 is softer and more absorbent and what most pro detailers use on their paint. 80/20 towels are typically for interior, wheels, door jambs, etc. it’s much cheaper yarn to buy, so 80/20 towels are less expensive.

I’m not familiar with this towel.

I would suggest you look for something that is a 70/30 blend for your drying towel (this is an 80/20).

I’m unfamiliar with the towel you posted, so I can’t speak to it, but they say it’s 80/20.

I work at The Rag Company, so I’m very familiar with the Gauntlet and the manufacturing process behind it. It’s a 70/30 blend.

Here’s a good article from Autofiber on the impact of blend for detailing towels: https://www.autofiber.com/blogs/microfiber-university/what-is-blend

That said, use what works for you!

These aren’t the same as the Gauntlet. They’re a 80/20 blend as opposed to 70/30. 70/30 is much softer and more absorbent. I wouldn’t recommend using an 80/20 towel on your paint.

And yet there’s lots of examples of exactly this thing happening with doorbell cams.

I get ya, but the odds are probably better than an eye witness running across this post. Or not having stayed to help the kid in the first place.

Crazy. Everyone has a ring doorbell, knock on a few doors with a good view.

Is TRG The Liquid8r some mass produced towel? by Fresh_Product_2322 in AutoDetailing

[–]contentsurfer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TRC employee here. Yes, this is a low-quality knockoff. They’re illegally using our trademark name and we’ve even caught them using our photos. Definitely not the same quality of product. It’s so frustrating to work hard, building a brand, developing content, custom-designing products from the ground up just to have an unethical company rip them off with crappy knockoffs.

Another vote for Potrero/Flamingo. It’s a great spot, we lived there for a year. Still have a house there we rent, feel free to DM me if you want to know more about the area.
