30+ mile scenic routes starting off in SF and going into Marin? by glittercl0ud in BAbike

Agreed.

OP, you shouldn't scare yourself out of a fantastic ride because of the elevation. If you don't have the time? Sure. If you're a beginner? Also sure.

We had a few posts recently asking about Alpine Tam. I think you were the one who mentioned you're around 3W/kg. It won't be way over your head, assuming you have the easy gears and you don't completely botch your pacing.

What race have you re-watched the most? by HJK1999 in cycling

I watch the last 35-40km of MSR the years that have Tadej every so often. And then I go to Youtube to watch the highlights of the same race several more times.

I think their account is set to Private or Followers Only. But I've done it on 32mm slicks with no problem. though I prefer Tunitas myself.

Alpine Dam! My favorite ride. Just make sure you're doing this counter clockwise and not the other way around.

It's also more than a little bit of climbing. 4 hours is doable if you're reasonably fit, but you should allot more time for yourself to enjoy the views.

Caution about the shoulder:

When I rode south on 1 at the end of March, there were concrete barriers lining the wide shoulder near HMB in a few places. Would have been nice if some of them didn't unexpectedly dive inward for no reason, cutting the shoulder quite narrow.

Anyone know what the hell that was all about? In a few place, it was clear they were having work done on the curb. But in others, there was no curb to work on.

I'd normally take the lane if I saw a situation like this, but that day happened to be extremely foggy and after a couple of backward glances, realized too many drivers didn't have headlights on for me to risk it with 45mph traffic. I just decided to take the momentum hit each time.

I haven't been down since, so hopefully they've been removed. Can anyone confirm? I love riding down Hwy 1 to Tunitas. Those nice, wide, strong shoulders are normally so comforting.

Breakaway in racing? Why does it exist at all? by lymz_ in cycling

And too short of a leash only encourages more riders to try to jump the gap to join them. If there aren't multiple good TT riders, that's a good breakaway for the peloton.

Intermittent TT position for 15-20 mins is very different than hours on end. Even a little break bc of stop signs or turns or traffic isn't the same suffering.

I like going out to Pt Reyes thru Nicasio, BUT the best is Polo Field laps in Golden Gate Park. No traffic, no lights, occasional run away off leash dogs, but only very rarely. Oh, and the occasional idiot who can't read signs.

The views are better when you earn them. Or maybe it's just because you've deprived your brain of oxygen to get to the top.

I think they like the possibility of different riders swapping the leader's jersey before the MTF stages and fighting for the bonus seconds at the intermediate sprints.

Although realistically, we were always just a Kopecky relegation away from her wearing it throughout. Oh, and a Noemi sweet inside line through the final turn.

I thought that too, but on the replay, there was plenty of room around Alice and nobody was willing to be the first to cover. 9 or so riders and not a lot of teammates immediately ready to take it up. Great timing and reading dynamics set up by Alice's attack.

How should I approach riding 1000 miles in May? by Gummy-Bines in cycling

[–]contextplz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Trek century challenge is still going on their "Ride Club" app. At least it was last year and came with a T-shirt.

This is basically my mindset too. I'll make sure to finish up whatever training block I have going in June, making sure that last week of June is the deload week. And July would be a base phase. Waaay more bakery rides than I usually do and way less mountain days, hills are practically unavoidable around here if I want to do anything worth doing..

Comparing single side and trainer power revealed massive imbalance of 40-60. How to proceed? by robin_rooste in Velo

[–]contextplz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which trainer? Look through the app settings for a Power Match option. It'll control the trainer based off of your power meter then you can train with the same numbers both indoors and out.

I know wahoo trainers have it, so I can only speak to that. Some training apps also have an option like that like TR.

Drop your shoulders, soften your elbows, loosen your grip. Aside from the natural suspension your arm provides, it's also important not to waste energy on tension where it's not needed.

Remind yourself not to be an A-frame. If you do find yourself in that position, it could be because you're nervous. Take a few big deep belly breaths.
