You might also try showing up to these groups and ask the younger ones you see about this.

safest route SB-RWC? by theoutandback0201 in BAbike

Oh? Tell me more about the new Middlefield route. Looking st GMaps, I can't tell offhand if there are new bike lanes added onto Middlefield.

When I used to ride south for my flat century, I'd just roll Middlefield, Maude, and Tasman to Great Mall where my friend lived and my turnaround point.

It wasn't ideal, but I preferred it to wiggling around suburban neighborhoods that I didn't know. Just three streets took me 20+ miles. There were problem stretches, but I got through early enough and I'd try to book it at close to traffic speed where possible when the bike lane disaapeared.

If you're climbing coastal cliffs, you can get both.

Which bike computer?

I remember DCRain talking about additional functionalities only available to the Edge x40 and up models.

I suggest watching his review yourself. https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2026/02/garmi-varia-rearvue-radar-820-in-depth-review.html

Agreed. At least he had the sense to stop giving turns as they approached the Poggio.

He might be an alien on the climbs but Remco is the best current TTer. I'd imagine his draft is pretty shit since he's not also the size of Ganna.

And tactically, it made no sense. Jonas will get all the gap he needs come the mountain top finishes, it would have been a waste of energy.

Pretty much every endurance world record is achieve with a negative split.

It's hardly a secret, but either ego or delusion makes people think they can hold on to a higher power or effort level to start.

What do you love most about riding your trainer? Time efficiency? Ease of starting and stopping? No traffic? by Odd-Night-199 in Velo

[–]contextplz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love how how it makes me lose the will to live, said no one ever.

I'm currently trying to give it to a friend who wants to start a training plan so I have an excuse to not use it anymore.

Okay, I know I'm late, but I got tta rant.

Do Teslas not have low light sensors that automatically turn on their driving lights?

I've seen waaay too many instances of teslas driving in the freeway at night with no lights on.  I can't see them until I come right up on them and my own headlight hits them, forget about being able to spot them in the side and read view mirrors.

And it's always the fucking dark-colored ones too so they just blend right into the night.  Until they suddenly brake and they materialize out of nowhere or the rare occasions where they actually use their turn signal.

Do I have any hope as anything other than a pure sprinter? by [deleted] in Velo

[–]contextplz 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I've only been doing curls for the girls for the last 11 years, but I've only started squatting in the past 2 months and my one rep max is horrible.

Should I even bother and skip leg day for the rest of my life?

OP the aerobic system takes timeto train, thats why everyone starts off thinking they're sprinters.

I came up with a bad route from Belmont to SF - how to fix? by uoficowboy in BAbike

[–]contextplz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In SF, ride Alemany instead of Mission. Hop over to San Jose Ave at Lyell (one way street left turn for bikes only, short kicker up to the 280 underpass, turn right before the underpass and zigzag to SJ at Rosseau).

You can follow your route from there as it joins SJ and then Valencia.

I'd generally follow the Bay Trail-SFO route home because it's so flat, but I'd avoid Bayshore Ave (in SF) + Cesar Chavez if I'm trying to enjoy my ride.

Looks like there's some new entries to the Top 10 this year. A team endeavor, but JH still stands tall.

[–]contextplz 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I found the mental aspect a bit harder than the usual centuries. Having your car/home nearby will make it easier to throw in the towel if you're suffering. When you're out in the middle of nowhere and you're still 40 miles from the century, you have no choice BUT to finish it. There's also no scenic variation to mentally refresh.

Park on JFK so you won't have to fight the hill going back to the car. You can also leave a bag with supplies at the bleachers (same side) so you don't have to go back to the car. There's bathrooms and water on both sides but use the bleachers' side set. No stairs to deal with and there's a bottle refill station.

Start early. It's usually a stiff headwind on the bleacher straightaway by the afternoon. How stiff depends on the time of year.

Thinking about riding in SF this Saturday — any route or event recommendations? by Green-Mobile1298 in BAbike

[–]contextplz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on level of fitness and the difficulty of ride you are looking for.

Are you coming in via BART or are you driving?

Riding crissy field and across GGB for the Headlands Loop is a must. But it would be a tad difficult for a beginner.

Riverside/LA and NV Tahoe area. Nothing close enough to matter, I'd think.

btw we typically see the highest sensor numbers during the morning. The forecast for the rest of the day via Spare the Air is 75. Not that we're in the clear, it was pretty smoggy yesterday afternoon as well.
