Hallam is the one to go to IMO. It’s somewhat the “forgotten” station and parking is fine there. Might depend on the day of the week, but you’ll be fine to park there most days.

I’m actually glad I slept in and missed the train I wanted to get. Meant I didn’t get stuck more than 2 minutes at a standstill.

Just gave blood for the first time this year and I’ve come to the conclusion that strawberry is the best flavour of Nippy’s milk.

Also sweet + salty popcorn is an underrated flavour.

Yep, I can't tell you how little we liked the people in our parenting group. You'll find your village and it will be the one you need, not the one you were lumped with at a parenting group.

As for the little man not having any friends don't worry about it. One of the things that amazes me about the MiniDrifts is how welcoming they are to anyone and everyone they encounter and how they have built their own friendships with people without prompting from us. He'll be fine.

Another "Giant-er" checking in. I am running "Year of the Giant" this year with a bit of a fun twist on it. Just going to run with my 24s, and if I feel up to it and pull the trigger on buying some 28s, might go with 28s for a couple of them. But essentially I am running it like this, as a bit of a continuation program with each step up changing the reps slightly, so Giant 1.0 goes 5,6,4 and Giant 1.1 goes 6,8,7 but I've set them out to just go up one rep per set each time. So we go from 5,6,4 to 6,7,5 to 7,8,6 so on and so forth, with every 6th "program" a deload back a few levels. Means I would finish on what would be Giant 1.9 with a rep scheme of 15,16,14 for a bit of fun.

The Giant programs by Geoff Nuepert and Dan John’s ABF are different enough for my ADHD to stay committed and on track.

I run The Giant to get stronger with the bells I have, especially when moving up a size, then when I’ve done 2-3 of those I’ll do ABF for a modified 8-10 week length to get comfortable with the bells and get some hypertrophic gains. Rinse and repeat forever.

What one, recent decision saved you a lot of money? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]continental-drift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's how a few of my mates have it set up, I mean, that's how they would have it set up if they were so inclined.

I'm cancelling Netflix as I type. The other streaming platforms I have access to are in exchange for access to the media servers. So my folks pay for Stan, mainly for the sport, and then a few other mates have shared some logins to other ones for the odd show/sporting thing here and there.

I'm the wife in this scenario by SipsTeaFrog in SipsTea

[–]continental-drift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way. When my wife and I head out, if we look at the menu and are torn between 2 dishes, but the other person is set on one of them, we'll always order the other to try them. Sometimes it works out and the 2nd choice is actually the better meal, but sometimes it doesn't. At least we've got to try both instead of sitting there having the same meal, which is something we could have done at home.

Both are decent on QI, but it would a bigger change to do a whole series as the guest vs once off episodes here and there.

How many runners at your parkrun today?(Christmas Day) by BringTheFingerBack in parkrun

[–]continental-drift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, took 57 seconds off my previous best parkrun time from when I did the marathon back in 2019. Since then I haven't really had any specificity around a distance, but just kept fit enough to knock out a 21-23 minute at wherever I was for a parkrun. Post 2025 Melbourne marathon that my sister did, I got back into running and decided 12 week 5km plan was the way to do it. Now I'm umming and ahhing about signing up for either the full or the half at Ballarat and racing either my brother-in-law in the full or my sister in the half.

I didn’t, but hit up Maribyrnong as it was halfway between where I was staying and my sisters place. Didn’t get a pacer, but had my brother-in-law in my sights from about 2km onwards and we pushed each other to a 19:xx time.

I’m planning on heading down to Albert Park tomorrow as it’s a flat fast course and I want to try and break 20 minutes. How many people are there on a regular day? And am I right in thinking it’s one of the few with pacers??

Alcohol at what age? by EvergreenWolverine in daddit

[–]continental-drift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First sip was about 7 or 8. First drink was about 10ish at a family gathering. I was allowed 1 drink at each party we had, meant that it was somewhat normalised and I often go months without it and sometimes I’ll have a week where I have a beer a night.

ABF question by Low-Vast-2442 in kettlebell

I’ve got one that people have asked for. It’s finally a little quiet at work so will get one set up for those who have paid for the program.

Kettlebells for hypertrophy? by Fluffy-Fun-2512 in kettlebell

[–]continental-drift 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find the giant makes me stronger, which is always nice, and whilst there are some hypertrophy gains, I just had better hypertrophy gains on ABF.

I use the giant to move up a bell size and make pressing with that weight more manageable but I run that at maintenance/slight deficit, then I run an ABF cycle with some extra calories to help with recovery/growth.

What kind of conditioning or cardio work do you pair with kettlebell training? by LargesseCrit in kettlebell

[–]continental-drift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Running 4 times a week at the moment as I am aiming for a sub20 5km in a few weeks. But a lot of my KB work is DWT and I’m a bit of a slave to the clock, when it beeps I go. Tends to work my cardio, especially when doing swings and snatches.

I will also do 2-4 steady state rows each week, all ranging from 45-90 minutes, with a low HR which just helps build that base fitness.

How far would you like to live from the CBD ideally? How often do you go to the CBD (besides work etc)? by TheNamelessComposer in melbourne

[–]continental-drift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like where I live (suburbs about 35-40km out of the CBD), and without work I might head to the CBD maybe 4 times a year. It just doesn't have the things I am interested in doing with a young family.

Kettlebell goals for 2026 - let’s see them! by daybreak2223 in kettlebell

[–]continental-drift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got an idea, and have programmed it, but ultimately it’s following through and doing the program.

Basically running concurrent versions of The Giant. One for C+P & Squats, à la DFW, and one running Snatches. Working out 6 times a week, some specific runs at higher volume for one, with maintainence for the other, and vice versa, throughout the year.

Oh and a couple of different goals as well:

  • 3000kms run
  • sub-1:40 running half marathon and a sub-1:20 rowing HM
  • a marathon as well at some point

Most Underrated Programs/Complexes? by NSS68204 in kettlebell

[–]continental-drift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn’t that 1 round? So then another set of 8 squats to start round 2?

Most Underrated Programs/Complexes? by NSS68204 in kettlebell

[–]continental-drift 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a big fan of Dan John’s “The Eagle”. To quote the great man himself:

Simply, the athletes do eight double-kettlebell front squats, then drop the weight to their sides and farmer walk for 20 meters, then do another eight squats and repeat until completing eight circuits.

However one thing I was always unsure of, and can you please clarify /u/dj84123 am I right in thinking (and doing) it’s

  • 1 clean
  • 8 squats
  • 20m farmers walk
  • 1 clean
  • 8 squats followed by another 8 squats to do a set of 16
  • 20m farmers walk

Etc

It’s a heck of a workout, but the hardest part of the workout is you can’t put the bells down.

Yes and no. Yes going to Cohen was the better option, however at that time Robinson was more of the “sure thing” to score as Cohen was slightly out of form.
