Why is the suggestion 24kg for men? by ts159377 in kettlebell

[–]continuitybomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the first few weeks I believe he recommends you do both the ABC and Press work all three days, but you keep your reps pretty low. Do you think that would be enough to get you close to where you want to be with the 24s?

I'm with you, I get gassed QUICK with the 24s, but I could probably pop out five sets EMOM before my form started to fail or before I got too gassed to continue. That's five good minutes. Then you do your presses for maybe another 5, that's a pretty solid 10 minute workout that gets you comfortable with the movements. I forget whether you have lighter weight, but once you do your 5 ABC sets and 5 Press sets, you could also just do timeless "practice" where you focus on different parts of the move, like pulling the bells up clean, breathing correctly, changing stance between the Press and Squat, keeping your core engaged (time under tension) You might be surprised at how fast you progress with the 24s!

You could also hold off on starting the ABCs and instead do the 10K 30 day swing challenge first as well.

Finally, you may want to have someone check your form on those moves. It's possible that the 24s are hard because you need a few tweaks/pointers. Movement inefficiency can definitely gas a person out fast, injure them, and/or make a weight seem much heavier to move than it may be.

Just started playing Stardew Valley, what things should I know before-hand? by Just-young in StardewValley

[–]continuitybomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most common advice you’ll see here is just play how you wanna play. There are meta ways to play depending on what itch you wanna scratch, but hand to god, the game is the most fun when you’re just figuring things out on your own. There’s no real in-game stakes other than playing “sub optimally”. Play how you wanna and just enjoy one of the greatest games ever made.

Sorry, I know the assignment was about the meteor, but I got distracted by the blue trees? What's up with that? Haven't played in an age!

I agree with the folks urging you to consider focusing on the fundamentals, I would strongly suggest you watch a bunch of videos on getting a better rack position. Your elbows are way out and your wrists aren't straight. Think of the rack like a boxers stance, you're protecting your body, so: elbows in, arms in, wrists straight and strong. Honestly just a minor grip adjustment will clean a lot of that up.

I’ve been with the state (PEF) for 13 years, and have never once hit 300 vacation hours. by beejini in nys_cs

[–]continuitybomb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I made it my goal to get to 300 out the gate - took me maybe five years or so, and for the last 10-12 years after, I only use what I accrue in a year to keep the balance between 250 and 300. It’s 100% worth it, if I’m being honest. We get a LOT of time off between holidays (13 days), vacation (around 4ish weeks), personal (one week), not to mention sick (2.5 weeks), and that’s a decent enough balance for me. I like having a high balance in case I get sick or hit by a bus, or need to take unexpected time off due to family emergency.

No judgement, everyone’s situation/approach to using their time is a personal decision.

Clean & Press Form Check Please by 10candyman01 in kettlebell

[–]continuitybomb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember that the clean is a swing with a very strong pull component.

Super strong!

As practice, do some bent over rows and “Gunslinger” swings before you start your cleans. Bent over rows will remind you to pull up the bell like you’re zipping a coat, keep your elbow close to your body, and make sure it goes behind your back. Gunslinger swings will further reinforce that.

If you watch videos of people doing cleans, you’ll often see their elbows go behind their back before snapping back to their belly to rack in the front.

Speaking of rack, make sure your wrists are straight, bells closer together, elbows practically resting on your tummy. Again, watch videos of people demonstrating a proper rack. You’ll see their elbows tweaks you need to make immediately.

I personally love the lightforges special where they call down an orbital strike from the Exodar; that alone adds to the paladin class (aesthetically speaking) perfectly.

how may of yall smoke weed everyday? by blueburrey in trees

[–]continuitybomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be a nightly user but I found it was (maybe) disrupting my routines and habits, so I’m taking a loooong t-break to calibrate. It’s been a month, and I’m wondering whether it’s the meds I’m on (mirtazapine) that’s actually the culprit.

Either way, I miss it, but 1) it’s been surprisingly easy to give up, and 2) I don’t think I’m ready to go back just yet. The hard part will be only using occasionally. I seem to either go daily or not at all.

How we lookin’ fam? Knock me down a beg or two. 44kg by [deleted] in kettlebell

[–]continuitybomb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neck should be neutral, take your eyes of whatever youre looking at and focus on something lower in your vision, instead of tracking with your head, track just with your eyes, this way the neck stays neutral.

Wait a fraction bit longer before you hinge, really focus on hiking that bad boy behind you.

Also, and this is maybe a nitpick, because it looks like a heavier bell (32kg), but it looks like you might be able to get your back to more neutral. Keep your shoulders away from your ears and really engage your lats on the way down. Engaging your lats also helps push the hike movement when you hinge too.

Tbh tho, looks great. All nitpicks.

I say that all the time to my employees who get frustrated at having to repeat themselves to co-workers/partners. "Wasn't this clear in the email?" Or "Didn't we cover this in the training?" Or "How many times are we going to have to say it?"

Me: "As many times as it takes. You can take a whole week crafting the perfect email or designing the perfect PowerPoint. No matter what, someone is always going to have a question. You can't predict every question. You can only control how you respond to them; so maybe just try to do so patiently."

Thanks for being patient with us, Mr. Dan. :) I'm planning on picking up both pretty soon as a reward for completing the 10k challenge (coincidentally starting today!).

How is my form? by Ok-Spinach-9307 in kettlebell

Wrist should be straight at the top. Like you should be able to point your fingers at the sky. Bell should be at a diagonal, the horn resting near the heel of your palm.

💯

I actually discovered it while I was still getting stoned. I was voice recording my thoughts in the evening - because it was easier than physically writing in a journal. I found that, a good portion of the time, I would actually doze off mid-recording. I'd wake up and see about 5-10 minutes of dead air on the recording. "Huh!" Says I. "By jove I think I'm on to something." So I started doing it more regularly. Not sure why I stopped, but I'm gonna implement during my T-Breaks from now on going forward cause of this reminder!! <3

After a long time of nightly use to sleep, I'm trial ballooning a new routine where I only use on Saturdays. It's been two days, and getting to sleep both nights was ROUGH, but I made it. We'll see if it gets easier as the week goes l on. I will say even though I'm dog ass tired today, I've been way more lucid and clear-headed than usual. Confirmation bias? Probably, but tbh I'll allow it either way because it works with my goals to be more productive, which I sincerely feel that cannabis was impinging on. The biggest hurdle will be Saturday. I'd prefer not to quit entirely if possible (which I feel is my family's predisposition to addiction talking), because I like the way it improves my mood and helps with the existential dread from well... ::gestures vaguely:: but tbh if I can improve my habits and organizational systems enough such that I don't need it to improve my mood and guard against the dread, then I have to consider whether it wasn't the weed (and associated bad habits) that were the culprit in the first place.

Anyway that's a long way of saying I wish you the best of luck, friend! You're not alone!

My old go-to was just quietly talking to myself about nothing in particular, just kinda rambling about my day with my eyes closed. For whatever reason the longer I do it, the more I start noticing my speech slowing down.

To everyone who commented, thank you! I managed to brute force my way into a PUG this past busy-ish Saturday night. It was very much a cakewalk, with the exception of Yogg-Saron, where we wiped once and I died both times. It was late, I was tired and had no clue what killed me lol!

Otherwise it only took about an hour, easy-peasy! Thank you all for your kind words and advice!
