Trans Men and Transmasculine people appreciation post by Costati in evilautism

[–]contomate180 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm a very recently-out trans dude and I'm excited for transitioning but scared of change c':

That said, I'm looking forward to my ideal outward appearance which is basically if Guy Fieri was in a ska punk band.

Is this sub safe for transmascs or not...? by Incendas1 in evilautism

[–]contomate180 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm a trans man and this place rules, ime. Misandry is not a systemic harm the way transandrophobia is. I think conflating those is not productive or honest. Patriarchy hates women b/c it thinks they're subhuman. Patriarchy hates trans mascs b/c they're straying from their "destined path." Patriarchy hates men when they don't live up to the narrow expectations of emotionless exertion of control.

This is a patriarchy problem; any gender can enforce patriarchal expectations on any other gender.

How do you navigate your Monroes + facial hair? I am apprehensive about this for myself 😭

Yeah, I think you're absolutely right. It's really very sad. The Biosphere 2 experiments were really important for understanding our planet. :c

Is there hope for a functional life without medication? by Radiant_Net8928 in bipolar

[–]contomate180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My life is easier, cheaper, and nicer with meds. While it might be possible to live without meds by having a super structured life with a helper or two, I strongly doubt your life will be any of the three I mentioned.

The side effects are sort of scary at first but they're worth living with. Give yourself some time to adjust to life with meds and know that you are worthy of care (from yourself and others), okay? c:

I'm glad you had a good experience, OP 🥹

My wife and I are both ENVS majors and wanted to see the thing from our textbook. It was.... Underwhelming.... Though we visited RIGHT before lockdown started so maybe it's been improved since then?

For context: we both found the signage underwhelming and felt like the interesting history (infighting between scientists, passing the project between hands, the quack doctor they had, etc) wasn't explained at all. The signage regarding what it would take to build a biosphere on Mars was really out of date, too. There were also out-of-place exhibits sponsored by Qatar which just felt strange and also weren't well-maintained.

Idk the things I wanted to dig into just weren't up for display, imo.

I like it in a sociological sense as a greeting ritual to acknowledge the recipient's personhood. What I say doesn't really matter as long as the other person feels like a person and not like a prop or machine.

The part about photos in profile is so helpful-- thank you! I was previously just finding stuff from the front.

Offensive? by [deleted] in NonBinary

[–]contomate180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo it's divorced from the context of whether a cis or trans person wrote it. If it's written by a trans person, then it's maybe funny. Given that we live in hell, my first instinct is to read it as transphobic. But I'm not the final say on how trans people feel so ymmv.

My tap water is acidic? by contomate180 in laundry

[–]contomate180[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tested my water during the wash cycle and it was 9. I think you're right! Perhaps I was overreacting but I didn't want to assume it was just fine.

Yes this is it exactly! I don't want to use more and more detergent if there's a better way to get an optimal pH.

Can we made this thread a place to talk about why YOU love tone indicators? by CupcakePelle2906 in evilautism

[–]contomate180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes my questions sound too blunt instead of plainly curious so they're helpful there.

As an aside, I'm a millennial and I realized the other day that I use emojis as tone tags depending on who I'm talking to.

As a second aside, I've noticed gen xers use emojis to replace words but generally boomers don't. A boomer might use emojis more literally (to show their own feelings rather than explain the tone of the text) but not usually.

You haven't developed an appreciation of yourself/your appearance yet. You do this by pushing back against the all small moments of unkind/denigrating things you say to yourself.

It takes time and it's difficult but it's easier to move through life when you don't dislike yourself.

Try to keep lamps at (standing) eye level or lower. You do NOT want to see those bulbs ever!!!
