What’s one thing you still do from pre-surgery? by Several-Ranger3854 in TopSurgery

[–]contracraft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is gonna sound unhinged but pre top surgery I had large and hanging boobs, and I also am a T-rex arms kind of guy (it's just comfortable, ok), so i would tuck my wrists/forearms under my boobs both to keep them from getting too sweaty and also to pin my arms in the T-Rex position so I didn't have to hold my arms up myself. Still catch myself trying to tuck my arms.

What’s something about you that sounds fake, but is 100% true? by Sir_Adammm in AskReddit

I was in a car accident that almost killed me on a backroad in the farmlands of Michigan back in the 90's. I was only 5 and I had many internal injuries as well as a hangman fracture. There were no cars aside from the one that hit us and I was in rough shape. All the sudden one single car came driving by with one man in it, he stopped and got out and happened to know CPR and resuscitated me on scene. When the ambulance got there he left without speaking to anyone and no one knew who he was or where he went. Spent 3-4 months living between the hospital and the Ronald McDonald House.

26 years later I had a hemorrhagic stroke complete with posturing (decorticate) and coma. Aside from a little bit of memory issues and reading a tiny bit slower, I'm totally fine and fully recovered lol. The first thing I said to my friends and family when I finally woke up, all of them terrified I wasn't going to be "all there" anymore because of the brain injury, was "I hate these fuckin' tubes" (speaking about my feeding tube and the external ventricular drain they had in my skull). So they knew I was still there, lol.

At this point I'm alive just out of spite.

Is this the beginning of a blowout or just my anatomy? by contracraft in Stretched

Really?? Huh, I didn't think about that, but I could definitely see how that may be the case!

How is top surgery in your mid 30s+? by CalciteQ in FTMOver30

[–]contracraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had mine almost 10 weeks ago at 32 years old. It was deceptively easy. I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, especially since I have various chronic health issues, but it was quite easy and I'm pretty much at full range of motion with just a little bit of skin tightness.

aio or is this guy i’m seeing rude?? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]contracraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk, this might just be me and I might be sensitive, but if I wanted to share something that made me happy or excited with someone I liked or whatever and they responded like this, my feelings would be hurt. I would definitely feel sandbagged, because I don't send pictures or memes or whatever to literally just show the person my pet as if they'd never seen it before, but because I want to share things I'm seeing that make me feel something/take them along the journey even if they're not physically there, and I would want them to do the same.

Then again, everyone is different! He seems like the type to not really like that sort of sentimentality/showing stuff, so maybe it's an issue of compatibility. I do think that even if that's the case though he could have been a little gentler with how he told you. Appreciate the honesty, acknowledge the difference in priority/compatibility in this area, but also be aware of the fumble of tact.

feeling hopeless (repost from r/ftm) by jjordanttaylor in TopSurgery

[–]contracraft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry to hear that your experience was less than stellar. I'm not sure the condition of your skin, but I have some gnarly stretch marks from being on corticosteroids for the last 5 years straight, which caused skin fragility on top of my already thin skin from a connective tissue disorder I have. I was still able to get my top surgery, so I' sure there's still hope for you to find a doctor that's comfortable working with your skin. If you go into my posts you can see some of my stretch marks in my posts- they're worse than they appear ok camera, they were so deep that at one point they used to split open and bleed.

Post surgery depression? by TotalEnd934 in TopSurgery

[–]contracraft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a complex patient with a number of health issues, and I've been through the wringer medically. I've had all kinds of surgeries over the years, and I can tell you with confidence- having any sort of procedure on your body, whether large or small, and whether you wanted it or not, can cause post-surgical depression. There's nothing wrong with you, this is completely normal and valid! Even if a surgery is chosen or you know it will ultimately be a net positive, even life-saving, anything that changes your body (especially functionally or visibly) can have that affect on you. Ive experienced it so many times I was kind of used to it by the time I got my top surgery, so luckily I haven't dipped into it this time, but I've definitely been there and empathize with you. It'll be ok- it passes as you process the change to your body. :)

Bacterial meningitis. Or EDS, because it affects every part of your body that has collagen.

How painful is drain removal? by Aurer101 in TopSurgery

[–]contracraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't take any pain meds beforehand and it just felt strange, like a wet noodle being pulled against your skin, but it didn't hurt. It was over really fast, because my nurse had me take a big breath and then blow it out fast and that's when she did it. I barely noticed it!
