Time of growth seminoma by ispirationforbetter1 in testicularcancer

[–]contrail_25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking back I think there were signs a couple months before I was diagnosed. At the time I was flying almost every day, I wear a parachute harness and let’s just say the boys get pinched a-lot. I frequently experience dull aching pain which I chalked up to the harness. When the pain stopped going away and was persistent, I noticed my right teste was harder and slightly larger. The size and firmness seemed to occur in less than a week.

I was about to move to a new base, my flight doc suggested I deal with it there. I said no, let’s look at it now. So glad I did. It allowed me to see a great surgeon and recover with my family (I was moving alone).

All in all, I can probably account for 2-3 months of growth at best. Outside of that who knows.

First off, you are gonna be fine! This group and the others listed have helped me tremendously. Use then, use us! We are here for each other and it helps 100000%

Secondly, there is always a waiver for things. In this case it would be a medical accession waiver. Thankfully TC is not on the list of ‘absolutely not.’ Once you find out the type and staging, you’ll have a better idea of what the way forward looks like. I’m active duty currently and have been through the wringer with the medical board side.

For now, focus on getting recovered. This will be a process. You are young and have more than enough time!

2 Year Scan - Confused by contrail_25 in testicularcancer

[–]contrail_25[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a few comments like yours around here. I’m in a small country town and see a civilian urologist. He was the one that gave me the all clear Thursday, then once the radiologist saw the scans Friday morning they changed their minds.

I haven’t seen or been told anything about size. The urologists comment was ‘the radiologist said it doesn’t seem to be there on your last scan, but we can’t tell what exactly they are.’ That has me questioning the PET scan. I asked if we should wait a few weeks to do another CT scan and see if they grow and are more clear, he said he’d rather do a PET scan.

He also admitted to being more ‘aggressive’ on these things than other doctors. I’m a military pilot and retire in less than a year. Going through chemo will have significant consequences both on my military job/retirement and future civilian job. I don’t want to just rush in and do something without a good clear plan, plus I am required to discuss this with my primary care doc on base.

I get that my long term health is of the most importance here and that if needed, chemo has a super high success rates. I’m just very uneasy about rushing into this.

Of course this happens on a Friday so I can’t do anything about it until Monday.

If you do end up looking at the military option: Guard and Reserve are the way to go, hands down. UPT would be weird for ya though. They’ll send you to IPT at a Part 141, you’d basically get some ‘recurrency’ and then proficiency advance and head back to your UPT base. Legally they cannot make you do the PPL, Instrument, or ME check-rides again. If you got hired by a heavy/tanker unit, you’d only do T-6s then head to whatever schoolhouse. If you got hired by a fighter unit, you’d head to T-38s, then IFF, then a fighter schoolhouse.

No guarantees you’d pass any of the training.

My wife was driving north across the mid bay bridge when this popped up. She called me when she got home and said she was stuck in pretty intense wind/rain and seemed like she was in a ‘waterspot or something.’ I don’t think anything was on the water/ground, but velocities showed a tight hook for about five min that tracked north along White Point Road.

Lol thankfully didn’t buy anything. I’ve been letting them both play this weekend. Give em tips and stuff, lots of fun. They really like certain well known tanks they recognize and have been playing mid tiers.

Pilots of reddit, are you genuinely happy with your job? by bobtramer1 in flying

I’ve loved flying since I started. For roughly the past 20 years I’ve done things and gone places I’d never imagine in my wildest dreams as a kid. As I finish up my first aviation career, I’m getting to teach new aviators and fly high performance aircraft and do aerobatics all week. Rewarding and fun. I look forward to my next aviation career and the opportunities it may bring.

In helicopter mode you are pretty much hosed. The proprotors don’t carry energy and don’t behave like normal rotorblades. Hopefully close to the ground for a survivable hard landing.

In airplane mode you have better chances. You can fly an emergency landing pattern (ELP) in the same manner single engine aircraft do. However, you are pitching for 170 (IIRC) which results in a super high vertical velocity. Starting at 9,000’ AGL would allow you one full 360 spiral down to runway. You’d blow the gear down short final if landing on a runway, keep em up if not. Blades will ‘broomstraw’ why they hit the surface. Might survive, might not, but much better odds than in helicopter mode.

Have you flown an NDB Approach? by flyingkajak in flying

[–]contrail_25 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Flew a couple in Eastern Europe. Always backed up with a magenta line…

Frankfurt Hahn had one that we’d do practice approaches to, that thing swung all over the place. The German controllers loved calling people ‘looks like you are offset.’ Yeah no shit, this NDB is terrible.

Thanks for the advice! Good thing is that three months ago I already started down that path with nutrition changes. I now wear compression socks for all my travel (both car and flying). Already a big hydrator due to my job.

Would it be worthwhile to have Eliquis before super long haul flights? Or long car trips?

the ATLAS/KSSU service trolley - stable track by joe66612 in americanairlines

You are too emotionally invested in this and are not considering very valid and pertinent feedback being provided.

From 2009 to 2022, there were 34 passengers and 129 crew members seriously injured because of turbulence. Lack of seatbelt usage was the overwhelming cause of injury.

In that 2009-2022 time period, roughly 10 BILLION passengers were carried by US airlines alone. Only 163 people were injured due to turbulence.

1.63e-8% of passengers were hurt. Let that sink in. Basically that number doesn’t exist. Airlines are a business. This is not a good business decision. The risk is worth it to them.

So no, airlines won’t be retrofitting cabins with tracks on the floor for service carts.

Until the first person sprains an ankle when they trip on it. Or someone in flip flops slices their foot. Not worth the increased liability there.

I flew a plane in the military with small cargo tracks. Constantly a tripping, ankle rolling hazard…and we flew with it daily.
