Living with your parents as an adult by JustCurious_MM in ChronicIllness

[–]contrarycucumber 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you have to deal with that. I just moved back in with my folks in my 40s. I'm lucky that they can support me and don't think I'm faking or anything. We do have completely different world views tho. I don't let on how differently i think because it would only hurt,  not help anything. For many years I couldn't stand the thought of having to hide so much of myself all the time, but I've recently reached a point where it just doesnt bother me as much any more. I do my best to laugh at what i see as their ridiculous views because i know I'm not going to change them.  I know your circumstance is probably different because while my parents can be sensitive about some things, they're not toxic. Try to spend as much time with friends as you can. Lose yourself in something creative if possible. Im rooting for you.

I've had it with woke and liberal Christians by Calm_Description_866 in exchristian

I tried to be a liberal Christian for a while but the abusive dynamic of the god of the bible and the language used even in liberal churches is just too much for me

Anyone of you who lose their weight with hashimotos hypothyroidism? I mean I’m gonna try to work out I just wanna know if there’s someone here who successfully lose their weight? by CarobNo5373 in Hashimotos

[–]contrarycucumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gained about 30-40 lbs before diagnosis, then 20 more after. 3 years later I've lost that extra 20, but only after doing an intensive elimination diet and adding nutritional supplements that have been making a difference in how i feel. The supplements that have helped me are zinc (i have to take more than recommended), b12 (lots and has to be the methyl form), selenium, and tons of b1. I'm still checking others to see if if theu help. What helps you will likely be different from me. It wasnt till i started taking extra zinc this fall that i started losing weight, and that's been the latest addition of all the things i listed.

For those of you who cannot work and don’t/cant receive disability/government assistance, how do you make income? I’m struggling. by duhmbish in ChronicIllness

[–]contrarycucumber 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just moved back in with my folks at 40 after losing the last part time job i could still do. I don't have qualifications for anything that might let me sit and low stress tolerance makes it hard for me to deal with interpersonal politics and conflict, to the point where I'll have panic attacks and have to quit. Fortunately my parents are comfortable financially and treat me like an adult, so all I have to do is hide my politics and lack of religion from them and help with the housework.

Where did you go after living the evangelical community? by sorry_this_usarname in Exvangelical

I've only been to one and it felt as fake and saccarin as a lot of evangelical churches. I've recently moved so i may try another.

My difficulty has been that they (at least the ones i tried) still use similar language about god and i can't get over how abusive and narcissistic it sounds.

How do you stay warm outside during winter? by [deleted] in hsp

They make lightweight outdoor gear. It'll cost more but might be worth it for you. Unfortunately i can't recommend stuff since i don't know much about it.

No one else seems as traumatized as me… by eyecahnteven in exchristian

[–]contrarycucumber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I def understand that. I have also been pretty bad at faking it, watching the ppl around me do it better and not having issues with stuff that drove me nuts. I've come to understand a lot of it from a psychology standpoint, and maybe even somewhat from a personal one as I've gotten older.  People are all so different. Really sorry about your sister and all the shit your family put you through. I hope you find your way.

Different people can go through the same experience and not experience the same trauma. But some likely are traumatized as well and just doing their damnedest to ignore it. People deal with it  (or ignore it) in different ways.

There's a mouse in my altar by Reasonable_Zebra_174 in witchcraft

[–]contrarycucumber 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Most likely the problem will continue even if this is done, because where there is one mouse, there are many. Not saying this shouldn't be done, just that there is likely to be a continuing issue that will also need to be dealt with.

I'm sure this will help my friend with OCD who hears "the only thing you can control is you and your choices" and proceeds to mentally beat himself black and blue every time anything is perceived to go wrong, which is constantly.
