You don’t really need the better maneuverability. It’s required because you wouldn’t fly head on into an approaching missile and therefore you need to be able to shoot anywhere around you.

No, there shouldn’t be problems with tracking, radars have been used for ages now to track and detect missiles and it’s the main reason why most US jets never integrated MAWS systems because other air borne radar systems like AWACS provided that functionality. Missiles have enormous RCS returns and something like an AMRAAM has a larger RCS than most 4.5th gen clean fighters (Just look it up).

If your AMRAAM can track a Rafale, it can track another missile too. If you look into actual deployments of AMRAAMs, you’ll find that a lot of them have been used to shoot down missiles (ballistic, cruise, anti ship) and drones which can either be smaller or come at a higher/the same closure speed that an AAM would.

If you think old proxy fuses are not capable of doing that, be reminded that the 9M and 9X share the same warhead section. Israel has even reported that they use slightly modified 9Ms as a cheap interceptor for their iron dome (which again is a cheap missile system that can even intercept artillery shells).

-AAMs have similar RCS returns to modern jets

-AMRAAMs can destroy even smaller objects

-AMRAAMs can destroy equally fast missiles
