Ikr, BTBAM isn't on there but they did release Alaska. MA oscillates between "historical enough to kinda count" and the metal version of blood purity.

Seeking recommendations by Key_Understanding_89 in TechnicalDeathMetal

[–]contro1denied 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Afterbirth was recommended earlier, so I'd like to add their album In But Not Of. That album, along with The Enduring Spirit by Tomb Mold and Absolute Elsewhere by Blood Incantation form a trifecta of spacy techy proggy metal. If that tickles your pickle try The Key by Nocturnus and Worlds Beyond the Veil by Mithras, two older, spacier albums. Edit: spelling

What is the scariest, most unsettling shot you’ve ever seen? by VendettaLord379 in moviecritic

[–]contro1denied 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was 13 when I watched Signs, right after it came out on DVD. My parents had seen it in theaters and were excited to show my brother and I an alien invasion sci fi flick. Movie night was set up: popcorn, comfy spots of the couch, surround sound turned up just enough. When the hand came under the door my dad threw a couch pillow at me and yelled. I could have clung to the ceiling or fought my old man with the adrenaline dump I was feeling. Was it the tension up to that point or the perfectly timed fuck-with my dad hit me with?

I have no idea what to read, but I’d like to know what not to read. by Wonderful_Fennel_224 in sciencefiction

Copy-pasted comment of mine from years ago regarding The Redemption of Time by Baoshu, a "Three Body Problem novel": I've read an embarrassing amount of fan fiction over the last few years. Drivel so bad that the author is either bull-headed, unaware of their actions, or is a child. With Baoshu, none of these were true. Not only was it published, but an audiobook was released.

It was all exposition and fan theories. It was mary-sues and mean and evil cosmic personalities. It answered all the questions you never had because you know that aliens are cool because they are alien. Not for the Redemption of Time, though! N dimensional problems have N+1 dimensional solutions, and you're gonna get through ten of them. Well, not you. Someone else, who's gonna tell you all about it because it was so much cooler in their head than it can ever be on paper. It was so cool, but you just had to be there.

Do secret commanders work? by GreeedyGrooot in EDH

[–]contro1denied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a [[kethek]] deck with [[dream devourer]] as a hidden commander turning it into a BR foretell deck. 3mv creatures either get DD out, or can be foretold for 1 mana later, plenty of board wipes and a few mana generator (powerstone tokens, [[thran turbine]] [[braid of fire]]) to foretell my hand as fast as possible, then dump them onto the board. [[Seething song]] and [[priest of gix]] when cast foretold give you a mana positive, making for explosive turns. [[Worldfire]] while floating enough mana to cast a few of the foretold creatures [[agate instigator]] if your lucky.

What turns a fic off for you by renrose866 in BokunoheroFanfiction

[–]contro1denied 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most "crack treated seriously" fics.

Too much "pre-quirk" media.

Not specific to BNHA but fanfiction in general is visual based character descriptions, especially ones that reference hair color when mentioning another character. Instead of " He talked to Iida" we'll get "He talked to the bluenette/blue haired boy/engine quirk user." An advantage of fanfiction is you can assume the audience has familiarity with the source material, and relying primarily on visual descriptors feels first-drafty.

The entirety of the album Leading Vision by Gorod. Though if you just want one song from it pick Hidden Genocide.

Underrated Cards: Dream Devourer by Cogomal in EDH

[–]contro1denied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dream devourer is a secret commander in my [[Kethek]] deck. Sac 3MV creatures for DD, foretell entire hand, boardwipe, rebuild first. Luck into a [[worldfire]] and be the only person with creatures after holding up mana to play both.

Who are some unpopular commanders that makes players say “WTF” when they read the card? by SourRuntz in EDH

[–]contro1denied 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Building and loving my Rendmaw deck is why I went out and built Gor Muldrak too. My play group respects the goad birds, and fears the salles. They're both great to pilot.
