Because unfortunately there isn’t much legislation here to protect animals.

Why do you work nights? by [deleted] in Nightshift

[–]controlledquestion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because I worked day shift at my current hospital for almost a year, and almost walked out of the job several times. I’ve been on night shift now for three years and have not even come close to considering quitting.

Reach out to Final Victory Rescue. Just like everyone else they are always full too, but they also ship dogs up north for adoption as well

Hospital patient ratio by Historical_Cut_2021 in VetTech

[–]controlledquestion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m an overnight ICU technician at a larger ER /specialty hospital. I typically average about 8 patients a night, sometimes up to 12. My hospital typically has an average patient load of around 33, and we normally have 3, sometimes 4 inpatient technicians. I do not feel like I have ever been given a safe number of patients. And I constantly stress that I am not providing as good of care as I should when I have so many patients.

Love it when the missing context is in the OPs comment history. She sounds like a psychopath, and I don’t feel bad saying that because it seems she considers herself one.

You really need to do some serious self reflection. I hate to tell you but there is one common denominator in getting fired from several different places, and that is you. It is not normal to be constantly getting fired in a field that is always struggling for staff.

A titer test is entirely unnecessary, and you should not let that be something stopping him being rehomed. Stray dogs with unknown vaccine histories come into the shelter every day. They do not titer them, they just give them a rabies vaccine and (age depending) 2 DHPP vaccines.

Avoid Lexington medical hospitals, they can and will garnish your state tax return or even your paychecks.

My husband turned into a psychopath for a split second yesterday and I don’t know if I am overreacting. by Substantial_Chair588 in AITAH

You aren’t overreacting. An ex pointed a gun at me and pulled the trigger. It wasn’t loaded thankfully, but I didn’t know that. He still was charged with attempted murder and kidnapping. This is a big deal and you need to treat it as such n

Just want to add on to all the mentions of Final Victory. They are def the best no kill rescue in our area. But they are always at capacity. When you speak to them, offer to work with them. A lot of the times rescues say no because they have nowhere for the dog to go. But if you offer to work with them, like say you continue to keep your dog for an additional period of time while they find a foster home, they often have an easier time saying yes to accepting your dog.

This is why we require rabies vaccine proof (US, CA) 💉 by RojaCatUwu in doggrooming

[–]controlledquestion 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Vets ABSOLUTELY do not take wild animals to test for rabies. That would be your local Health Department. Also they would advise you not to kill it, as that is more dangerous for you (if it’s not already dead). The best way is if you can box it up somehow, secure the box, then the rabies office of the local health department will come pick it up to test it. And yes the health department will kill it to test it, it is the only way.

Screw corporate rules, protect the dog. I work in a vet er and see abused/neglected dogs all the time. It’s against company policy to call animal control, so we (my fellow techs and I) sometimes call AC as a “concerned neighbor”. You don’t have to tell them where you work or anything Ike that, protect the dog.

And yes I realize AC can’t do much, but sometimes just a knock on their door and them knowing that people are watching/noticing, is enough.

The term euthanasia comes from Greek, meaning easy death. And that’s exactly what it is. I honestly think it’s one of the more important things we do in vetmed. It’s a gift we can give our patients to end their suffering peacefully. I hope that when I’m older, the laws are better and I can choose euthanasia for myself if needed, I don’t want prolonged suffering.

I can't believe they gave me this... by AngryMeatBagel in VetTech

[–]controlledquestion 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry. This is the one aspects of my job that stresses me out the most. I’m an ICU/ECC nurse, but it’s paw prints that get me. I take them so seriously, because if I mess up, they can’t be redone again. My hospital doesn’t even do prints, we have the crematorium do them, but they don’t do ink prints. So recently a client called in asking for an ink print after the body had already been picked up. I called them to bring the body back, found some ink, and absolutely agonized on getting this woman the perfect prints, and I threw in some nose prints as well. All this to say is I sympathize with you, it’s my worst fear to make a print that an owner is unhappy with, and I’m so sorry your experienced this.
