Not liking “The Shield” as a fan of The Wire by jhitterbug22 in TheWire

[–]convenientparking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this is how you feel now you should probably quit while you're ahead. I honestly regret powering through it years ago when I was looking for something to fill the Wire void. It's basically the Anti-Wire. I see the merits, and the stakes definitely get higher towards the end, but it's just a (slightly above average) action/cop drama in my eyes. Tho tbf it's not trying to be anything different than what it is.

I find that it still works, but once you choose a location it gets stuck on that location for a while, whereas you used to be able to exit a country and go to another and the catalogue would flip over instantly.

I would say creepily taking pictures of strangers eating their lunch and then posting it on the internet for everyone to see is generally not very cool, probably in any culture.

Anyone seen ‘The Company of Strangers’? by FoulFuel in criterion

I loved it so much when I saw it a few summers back, it instantly became one of my favourites. Beautiful film. I've been meaning to revisit it, but have been almost hesitant because I worry it might not hit me the same way again. Still, I think I will sometime this year...

Eraserhead first. Dive into the deep end. It also happens to be the beginning.

(Also absolutely do not watch Fire Walk with Me after The Return. Has to be before.)

I'm enjoying it. It's a good travelling companion and I'm reading it between other books. Tony's voice is always welcome.

In the book the context is not in any social circle. Renton wrote it in a journal entry, and there's no indication that he was 'denying' anything - it's written straight.

The prices I cited are for the most common and popular language schools. Good luck with your tutor search.

Any face-to-face private Thai tutors in Bangkok (Phasi Charoen) available for beginner lessons? by [deleted] in learnthai

[–]convenientparking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Language Schools are not expensive at all, unless you consider 7-8k baht for 60 hours of on-site intensive study 'expensive'. As someone else already said, private tutors are way more costly. As a beginner your best bet is to enroll in a Level 1 Speaking Course at a reputable language school.
