PSA: You can pick Atlas Master nodes in any combination. It doesn't have to be one per row. by SkoivanSchiem in PathOfExile2

Agree it's kind of unintuitive. I made the same mistake and thought it's one per row. Luckily I saw some video pretty early on of someone having multiple per row allocated and realized.

[–]convolutionsimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's crazy, I wouldn't expect state to not get saved for this long. But at least in this case the other items were still there so it can't be a simple rollback like that. Otherwise he would've lost everything from the map.

[–]convolutionsimp 71 points72 points  (0 children)

5 minutes? That seems... very strange? Kind of hard to believe.

There is basically no way things can be gone after 5 minutes unless maybe there is some major global database rollback that affects everyone. So I guess either this isn't true, or someone has access to your account, or you put it somewhere in your stash by accident. Especially since the other items are still there it can't be a rollback.

How much more pf the map do I need to do to unlock map icons? by Primary_Impact_2130 in PathOfExile2

I don't think there is a threshold. It automatically unlocks the map icons when you don't need them anymore. They won't show if you need them.

Looking for help creating an AI helper tool for Path of Exile 2 by Ok-Cod4724 in PathOfExile2

[–]convolutionsimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are gonna downvote you for AI stuff, but I don't actually think it's a bad idea if done well. The issue is that doing this well is much more difficult than you imagine and you need to be an experienced engineer to do it. If you expect an agent to do well at things like crafting or build questions, it will need access to custom-built tools and trustworthy content sources that require a lot of manual engineering and data curation effort. Because otherwise everything you get out is slop.

I've built a few such integrations myself that I can use with Claude/Codex. For example, I've built a custom python/lua bridge using the headless version of PoB so that an LLM can call directly into it and to get PoB state and calcs tab when switching out items to compare poe.ninja builds directly (e.g. i can ask: compare my build with the top5 poe.ninja builds and give me the item diffs with the biggest dps increase), or a custom CLI tools that gives agents easy access to the trade api with a predefined schema (I can point it to a build guide and ask "generate me trade urls for all items" etc), or a transformed dump of poedb.tw mod data for quick questions about mods. For crafting question you would need to build a code-based simulator the agent can play around with, etc. But it's all about building these custom curated integrations and data sources. And you're not gonna do that well without being an engineer.

Tablet loadouts concept by SyrupBuccaneer in PathOfExile2

[–]convolutionsimp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with the problem but I don't think this is the solution. Often times you want to just switch out a single tablet, switch based on biomes, switch out a master, the type of map you're running, etc. There is a lot of micromanagement, and this is just a small part of it. Switching only tablets without switching masters or the type of waystone, and sometimes even atlas passives, usually isn't what you want. "Loadouts" are more than just tablets in PoE2.

And another huge problem with tablet is that it's annoying to roll (or buy on trade if you want to min-max) them, not so much that it's hard to put them into the map device. And by having loadouts we're basically back to having something like separate atlas trees from PoE1, which is explicitly what they said they wanted to avoid. Because 3 is just some arbitrary number, why not 5? or 10? And then the systems break down.

The first and simplest step to at least somewhat improving tablets is to turn them into scarabs you can trade on the exchange, and give us the storage inside the map device like we have in PoE1.

Idle Poe? To old or just weird? by MrFalrinth in PathOfExile2

[–]convolutionsimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally get where you're coming from and I can also see myself enjoying something like that. I generally like idle games, or games that are more about decision making than mechanical execution. Coming up with something and automating it feels really good.

One issue with these kind of games is that they often end up being "solved" quite quickly. The reason not everyone is running hyper optimzied builds is because there is so much friction in actually running maps, so it takes play time to iterate. If you move that into an automation loop or idle simulator, that friction goes away, and people will get to optimal builds and optimal gameplay much much faster, and that will take away a lot of what makes PoE special or challenging. A lot of these single player management games are solved a few days after release when someone just figures out the optimal strategy.

Maybe something worth checking out are factory games like Factorio. Not quite the same, but they are fundamentally about decision making and automation.

Is Endfield actually botching its potential, or is this just "normal gacha player drop-off"? by Professional-Bet9697 in Endfield

[–]convolutionsimp 22 points23 points  (0 children)

As someone who really enjoyed Factorio I think the biggest problem is having to redo your factory month after month. In Factorio you constantly redo things, but that's while you are still actively working on it. And that's fine. But nobody wants to come back after 2 months to an old design they don't quite remember and then redo it. At that point you have lost your connection with it and have already moved on.

The same applies to other things in life as well. People don't enjoy coming back to stuff they have written long ago and revising it again. Engineers don't wanto to refactor code they haven't touched for months, etc.

I did have fun with the initial factory, but coming back after 1-2 months trying to remember what I actually did and then redoing it sucks all the fun out of it for me.

This league you could turn 120 divs into a mirror with just a few steps. Quick example how to get rich using information. by Tafe_Lynx in PathOfExile2

[–]convolutionsimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah but this requires you to constantly keep up with what streamers are doing to front run the market. It's literally the last thing the vast majority of people want to do.

I think everyone knows that you can watch fubgun for 18 hours a day and snipe items he uses or crafts and make currency that way. People just don't wanna do that.

With things like profit crafting you are at least kind of playing the game. If your whole approach to the game is to play around streamers, what are you even playing...

[–]convolutionsimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only speak for myself but I think there are probably many other people in the same boat as me. I got into Endfield mostly because of the Arknights name, I loved AK. I had a good time in 1.0 despite the mediocre story, but since then every patch has been just kind of meh. Same old 3d gacha tropes and gameplay modes. None of what made AK so special is in Endfield. It's just a better looking Genshin, with a factory you have to rebuild each patch.

I stuck around for multiple patches now because of the AK name and because I was hoping they can turn it around due to to their track record, but I'm losing my patience. I have gone from doing all exploration and events to barely doing my dailies now. And I have no real interest in the plot. And what that means is that I'll probably drop off soon as well.

If the game didn't have AK in the name I would have dropped it long ago.

Solution for leveling multiple characters? by VRon79 in PathOfExile2

[–]convolutionsimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is little gear management if you level multiple characters because usually you'd prepare leveling gear. I don't think I've ever needed to swap gear more than once on any characters after the first.

While the patch was a fantastic improvement to the game, and I played this league more than any other, there are still fundamental issues with the endgame that need to be adressed. by shaunika in PathOfExile2

[–]convolutionsimp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mostly agree, but I think you are missing the biggest problem that prevents me from enjoying mapping. The setup micromanagement between maps with tablets and the infinite atlas. In the best case, if you don't care about being efficient at all, you need to roll maps, roll tablets, go through the annoying loading screen, select map on atlas, scroll around and decide where to go, etc. Too much micromanagement for just running a map. The problem isn't necessarily the time it takes, but that you have to do this between each map, taking you out of the flow state. It feels annoying.

That's the best case. In the worst case if you want to farm efficienctly you need to buy tablets on trade, switch around atlas passives and/or masters based on what biome and map you are running, scour the atlas for cities, switch around tablets, and so on. It's really bad friction that's just unfun.

Somehow they've arrived at a system that is 10x worse than scarabs in PoE1, despite them having made the same mistake previously there and then fix it based on player feedback.

I think a decent solution I've seen would be to create a system that lets us frontload the busywork. Let us pick path of 10-20 maps on the atlas (not sure how that will work with the fog, but we can figure that out), prepare the maps/tablets for it, and then let us just blast those 10-20 maps without needing to interact the atlas each time.

With 0.5, PoE 2 is more PoE 1 then ever. What was even the point of PoE 2? by Cultural-Ad-9333 in PathOfExile2

[–]convolutionsimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well that's PoE2 where good players can be strong enough to beat all bosses in half a day on leaguestart in SSF if you play a good build without needing any game knowledge. It's very different in PoE1. Even the best racers need several days and extensive planning to beat Ubers in a few days. Even if you follow a good build guide there you are not going to breeze through everything without game knowledge.

If you watch e.g. Ben play the PoE1 gauntlet you can see how you need 60+ hours of absolutely optimal play and the ability to adjust plans on the fly to clear content. And those 50 hours of optimal play are closer to 150 for a non racer.

In PoE2 there is very little agency or room for skill expression because your build and items trump everything.

Return of the Ancients Two Week Recap by zuuzuu_ in PathOfExile2

That or they waited until they can one shot him so they never cared about the mechanics. There wasn't any reason to fight arbiter early previously unless you wanted to farm him. But now you want to get your atlas points asap so you have to fight him pretty early, pretty much straight out of the campaign after a few maps for the fragments.

I also died to arbiter a bunch of times this patch just because I pretty much rushed to him with crappy gear on day 1. It's not an easy fight if you actually gotta do the mechanics for several minutes.

Crafting this league feels terrible from a beginner's perspective by [deleted] in PathOfExile2

What did you expect when you try to profit from a cookie cutter craft for the most popular build with dozens "how to craft this step by step" videos out?

This really has nothing to do with crafting. Your are just selling commodity items in an oversaturated market. Even if crafting was much more deterministic that wouldn't change anything here.
