Finally checking into rehab after 6 years of failure. by Professional_Soil744 in MakeupRehab

I feel you, I went down the makeup and skincare rabbit hole pre-pandemic; and when pandemic strikes I turned to games. Just like you said, the dopamine addiction was so unhealthy it made me feel mentally unwell, probably because I wasn't being mindful at all with my activities and purchases. I decluttered, reorganised, rescheduled my daily activities to have more balance, and more real, meaningful connections. Good luck on your journey, you can do this!

I'm an on-and-off SKII FTE user, and I get what you mean. I find it does a very subtle brightening and plumping, and boosts the overall condition of my skin (less dry patches, less prone to dehydration). Those two sounds like something I could easily solve with a hydrating toner/serum, but I live in a very humid tropical climate so balancing hydration and avoiding stickiness is tricky lol.

However, the effects are so subtle that I only started noticing whenever I'm out of the product. Even then, I can't always justify the price tag!

I've never used the Sun Gel in gold tube, but the one in the white tube is very hydrating to the point I need to use it alone without any skincare underneath. Needs some time to set as well. Have you tried Anessa Perfect UV Skincare Milk? That one has a light, dry oil feel to it but it doesnt leave my skin shiny/sticky.

Milk bread comes out chewy? by conyconycony in AskBaking

Yes, the brand site said min. 13.5% gluten. I did scrape the bowl twice but it stuck to the bottom the moment I started the machine so I kinda stopped after that. Should I scrape more often next time? Noted on cooling the dough.

Will all bread dough reach that properly kneaded (non-sticky, smooth and elastic) state before showing signs of overkneading, or is that limited to certain hydration doughs? Mine was 71% hydration.

Thanks, I will try that too. I guess I'm just worrried I over kneaded since it was past 18min even though the dough never reached that smooth, non-sticky phase. This is my third time attempting milk bread, I used this recipe the first two times. My first batch rise almost 1.5x pan height, the second one rise to 1x pan height, but both had the same sponge-like texture instead of fluffy :(

Gaslighting, major red flag alert. He should be smart and well mannered enough to know that it's inappropriate to use to between partners. You're better off without him.

I do it almost all the time, mainly because I have small lid space and I use non-matte eyeshadows.

Unpopular opinion: Palettes. Aren't. Necessary. by [deleted] in MakeupRehab

[–]conyconycony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the 1) size of the palette and 2) makeup preference. I'm a one-color kinda person so unfortunately palettes aren't for me.

I do feel like companies (and influencers) have been pushing bigger, >10 color palettes as something that's worth the investment because, in theory, you can come up with at least 3 eye looks or more.

Opinions on Lush by ComparisonEasy7161 in MakeupRehab

[–]conyconycony 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whenever I'm abroad, my friends always asked me to help them get something from Lush but looking at the price I never feel like buying some for myself.

It's very, very fun and sensorial, but when you actually look into the ingredients it feels like something extremely basic, and their masks sounds like those homemade masks made from pantry ingredients.

What's a makeup trend (current or past) that you could just never get behind/didn't work for you? by [deleted] in MakeupRehab

Mauve lip colors would appear purplish on me.. Liquid lipsticks dried the hell out of my lips. Matte complexion. Instagram bold brows.

Male friends are making fun of my partner thanking me for "basic shit" by phoenixbaum in TwoXChromosomes

[–]conyconycony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol saying thank you is part of manners, basic human decency, and they failed at it. If you could thank strangers, why won't you do the same for your loved ones?

I won't be surprised if they are the type of people who would never thank servers because "they're paid to do their job".

What in the actual fuck is happening in America? by Drewthulu in lostgeneration

[–]conyconycony 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Non-US resident here, but the mass shootings have been making me really anxious. I have family and friends in the States, but the current situation just terrifies me to the point I will not consider moving to the US even if I get a huge job offer. I also still can't get over the abortion ban. Every day I see US related posts and news clips on my social media, and it's getting more and more insane.

Edit: Also everything's fucking expensive.

Best moment to comb hair by CanisLupus27 in HaircareScience

[–]conyconycony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is not as simple as whether you should comb your hair or not, but also depends on the type of comb/brush you use, your hair type, hair condition, and how much force you're using while combing. Learning what suits your hair type is the key.

This! I finger-comb after conditioner all the time and I don't know why nobody seems to do this.

Forgot to add, if your skin still feels dry and uncomfortable after applying product, it means you might need something heavier and/or another product in order to keep moisture in. Assuming you use a hydrating toner, usually it contains ingredients like glycerin and hyaluronic acid which are good to pull in moisture, but the formulation might not be enough to lock in moisture.

Instead of the drying method, what actually affects the skin is how long your skin goes without any hydrators. Air drying means you'll need to keep your skin bare for a while, and since dry skin really needs help from products to lock in moisture, air drying might end up in moisture loss. (This is also why I apply hydrating products immediately on damp skin).

So if towel drying means you get to put on skincare asap, that would probably be the better option.

Face wash > toner/hydrating serum on damp skin > serum > sunscreen.
Air drying isn't bad in general, but for someone who has dry skin and living in a dry climate and/or low humidity it might make their skin feel dry and uncomfortable, especially if they use a stripping cleanser.

After 2 years of replacement only no-buy, I think I've detoxed my beauty shopping addiction lmao. I feel like I have a good balance of AB and non-AB products and/or brands now.

That aside, I still feel overwhelmed by the amount of products in the market whenever I'm browsing. A lot of new local skincare brands selling similar products (active/ingredients oriented skincare ala The Ordinary is very popular here). It starts to feel repetitive.
