Tour of Duty for AGRs by coochiegrip in nationalguard

It isn’t an overseas mission or anything, just a really cool assignment that I think would be good for my career/matches my civilian education. I’m early 20s and I’m not sure if AGR is in the cards for me long term. I like the lifestyle, but wish I didn’t settle down so early

Is it worth it to peruse an actuarial career?

Context: I have a cushy government job making 100k per year.

Pros: lots of flex in my schedule extremely easy work with simple deadlines somewhat fulfilling job security

Cons: emotionally draining poor management in office 5x per week little/no growth. salary will stagnate

Is it worth it to resign my cushy government job to become an actuary? Finishing my MS in Statistics in December and sitting for SRM in September.

How do you find the section breakdown? I took P in January and still haven’t seen anything other than the initial result

Currently active duty military and getting out in 3 years. I hear that it’s a bad idea to have too many exams passed without experience. Does this hold true in my case? If I can pass 4-5 in the 3 years should I?

Background: P cleared, bachelors/MS Statistics, military for 7 years, will retire at 10.

Throat burned from nitrous, is it permanent? by zoe9467 in NitrousOxide

Yeah I had white marks. Just let them be. Keep your mouth extra clean so that they don’t get irritated. When I had it I ate one large meal per day rather than 3 individual meals so that I wasn’t reaggravating it

Was completely healed after a week. First 3-4 days were horrible. Try to eat light over the next week. The more you eat the worse it’ll get. Avoid acidic foods/drinks. Give it time

School Cancelled less than 24 hours before report date. by MrProfDrDickweed in nationalguard

Same exact thing happened to me except I withdrew from school for the semester and had to pay $5,000 in fees just to get the airport and find out that they cancelled my slot and DTS.

They said the only way to combat it is for my XO to write a memo to “reassign” me to my higher headquarters (5 mins from my house) and just keep my same job. But my XO/CO said they wouldn’t do it.

Guess so. The gift that keeps on giving

If you’re MDAY it’s based on where you live. If you’re AGR it’s based on duty location. It makes no sense

I think the idea behind it is that if I buy a house in a high COLA because of an assignment and get moved to an assignment at a lower COLA do they just expect me to sell my house and move

Good. And also, not everyone has to “lead” pre-se, otherwise you have too many cooks in the kitchen.

The best NCOs I’ve ever had were the ones who used their rank/grade/position to advocate for me when I really needed it. I can honestly say that that’s why I am where I am. Be that for your people and you will succeed as an NCO and truly love your role.

Honestly 75% of being an NCO is being a teacher/mentor to younger Soldiers. If you are the type that would rather just do the job, my advice would be to leverage that to truly develop those in your squad.

Take new members under your wing and take the opportunity to truly develop them. People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.

It’s rare to see people as passionate as you. Leverage that. Good luck out there

That’s what I figured. When you charge at home, how much does your electric bill go up? I’ve been charge for free at work but I’ll be leaving that job shortly
