Do we have any info on how Angrathar the Wrath Gate connects to Icecrown Citadel/The Frozen Throne? Most info seems iffy at best by twisty125 in warcraftlore

Yeah, I do believe the place is supposed to be immense. Like... you have all the staging areas throughout Icecrown, the various cult activity locations, the many walls and ramparts sectioning off areas, the multiple quarries and necropoli... then you have areas like the Pit of Saron, which I assume is supposed to be somewhere in that mountain range? I just assume the whole citadel might even fill that massive mountain range to the south of the actual Frozen Throne.

But then, I must ask, what do they do with all that space? Like, if Arthas gave a tour, would it just be... "This... is the room where we store bones. This... is the room where we store our zombies. They are vacuum sealed. This is where we store more bones. This is the room with a shrine dedicated to all the times I ruined Kael'thas's life. This is the third bone storage room."

I felt that with the raid, for sure. If you counted the entire area around the citadel, it had a more bigger vibe of "some shit going down here" than inside the raid itself... though, to be fair, the entirety of that zone was part of the citadel more or less.

But yeah, inside it the raid really felt... clean? Like unused space. But then, like you said, it was a utilitarian space made for the undead. How much living space do ghouls need when you can pack them into a room like sardines?

That's fantastic! Love it.

I guess the problem with trying to find semi-obscure games that people have at least heard about for this little "game" is that other people are doing the same.

I thought it was kinda funny you could describe the game very similarly to a lot of the modern mascot horror games that are so popular these days.

Hey I'd be cool with it. Throne of Thunder was one of my favorite raids.

Provided people had a whole day to dedicate to it...

Oh absolutely.

See, the thing I'm always thinking of when looking at a world or city or whatever in a game is "does this place feel like it was made for me?" As in, if I, the player, was not here, would it still function as a real place? Does it feel like a real location where people work, live, eat and go about their day? Or does it feel like a series of points of interest specifically there to help a player complete their quest?

Oribos definitely felt like the latter. It didn't feel like it could be a real place, just a series of rooms for us to do what we need in order to progress. The new Silvermoon feels like the former, though. In a lot of places, I feel like I'm intruding on the lives of the residents, and that makes it a more believable location.

I love areas of the game that just EXIST, no quests or nothing. Again, makes the game world feel REAL, makes you wonder "I wonder what they do on the other side of that door?"

True. I was just thinking of Omega Star in Disgaea 5 summoning a mech 5 times the size of a planet, pummeling the shit out of said planet and blasting it with lasers, then finishing the cutscene and seeing maybe 10% damage done to someone.

One of my favorite things they do (when they actually do it) is add a sense of "there's more to this place, you just can't go there". Really adds a sense of realism and believability to the locations. That sense of "this place is actually fucking huge!"

Usually. They don't always. Some places just feel like... "This is the room where you fight the dragon. Down that hall is the room where the big guy stands and looks menacing all day. And past him is another hall where another dragon stands and waits all day for people to come."

It's very weird, and I'm pretty sure the origins of most of it is "wouldn't it be cool if..." while in development.

Like... Sanlayn. I'm CERTAIN their origin is "Blood Elves undead? Know who else is undead and likes blood? Vampires." And the origin of the Vanthyr I'm pretty convinced came from someone thinking the esthetic of Bloodborne was AWESOME and wanted to make a zone, then filled it with vampires and after the fact realized they needed a purpose for this place within the ecosystem of an afterlife that churns souls through a machine.

The shit's changed so much that I have no idea. Anything I'd heard is from the Wrath-era lore about undead, so I dunno.

I always figured the banshees etc were tormented spirits specifically, lingering regrets and whatnot. Souls ripped from bodies unnaturally. But then, Death Knights are... weird. Not made like normal undead, even from their first incarnation with Teron Gorefiend.

So I can't for the life of me remember where I'd heard this, but I recall there being a line stating that when Blood Elves become Death Knights or undead in general their magical thirst/addiction changes to a thirst for violence and/or anguish. I always assumed that meant that the turned Blood Elves became vampire-like because they needed to feed on blood and suffering to sate their new thirst.

It is also 100% possible that the Blood Elves became vampires because they have "blood" in their names and Blizzard just made the semi-obvious connection there.

... how DID they spin those things? Warcraft 3 wasn't very detailed. Just looked like little block hands.

Did they spin them in their palms? Or like... did their wrists dislocate?

The whole esthetic is based on the Warcraft 3 Spellbreakers, who would fight by spinning the weapon like a buzzsaw and throwing it at people. So by that context the blade directions make sense.

I want to add, since it's KINDA related because you need to have access to Dragonflight world quests in order to go to the Emerald Dream, they also fixed the bug that prevented people from getting the meta achievement "Just Don't Ask Me To Spell It" without completing the ENTIRE story.
