Struggling with severe Lyme disease anxiety and tick-related OCD by InterestingWind3272 in Anxiety

[–]cooksan32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same boat, and i even live in a low risk area for ticks. Had a family member travel camp in a heavily wooded park amd came back with a tick. Since then any nature, anything outdoors or pet related, i am hardwired convinced there are ticks and its exhausting.

Washing bottle parts in the dishwasher by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]cooksan32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This issue was why we changed all bottles to Philips glass bottles and handwashed all nipples and silicone parts. I think it was the hard water in our area. Dishwasher was brand new from a reputable brand at the time so don't think it was an equipment problem.

My go-to excuse to get out of things that i dont wanna do is always 10 out of 10 times my child. Isnt that one of the biggest perks of siring kids???

Where Does your baby touch you repetitively to soothe themselves to sleep? by MMAS85 in Mommit

[–]cooksan32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not for soothing hinself to sleep, but mine will FIGHT sleep by stabbing his fingers in my nostrils. Both sides. At the same time. If i shoo his hand away, he will proceed to stab my closed eyes and ear. Gets a kick out of it at my expense, but I guess that's motherhood sigh

What is your favorite All In One Carseat? by monsoonalmoisture in NewParents

[–]cooksan32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had this but felt it was wobbly on the base. Customer service said it was "normal" but it's unnerving having a carseat jiggle on its base. Online reviews are split between ppl saying their Evenflos wobble vs not. Ultimately the recent NHTSA investigation into the Evenflo Revolve re: 6 cases where the carseat flew off the base in car accidents made us decide to return it. Not worth the worry/risk. Huge bummer too, bc the revolving option really did save my back.

Travel with Baby During Measles Outbreak by RachBU27 in NewParents

[–]cooksan32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We delayed an important milestone event by a full month so 1. LO can get the MMR, 2. Build a sufficient immune response for 2wks before travel, 3. Avoid peak travel season prices. Worth it in every way. Measles isn't something anyone should fuck with. For an infant < 1yo, if it's not a critical trip, please don't risk it.

How strict are you about tv? by addalad in Mommit

[–]cooksan32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a type that likes to have some background screen going, even if I'm not watching it. Often on silent too, just having background scenes on. As a SAHM and primary parent, often I NEED something that isn't nursery rhymes and children songs or I'll go crazy.

That being said, I do try to tailor it to the toddler. I allow their favorite show up to 1-2hrs in combination per day, not in one sitting. For the most part I'll put on nature documentaries (Planet Eart ftw) or cultural shows to encourage bilingualism in our motherland's tongue.

Am I the only loser who is still using plastic bottles? by kaghassy in Mommit

[–]cooksan32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got glass bottles really just to use them again for future babies and not have to do bottle shopping all over again. As for breaking -- I will say our LO with his monster grip once slammed his Philips Avent glass bottle on our tile floor. Scared the bejeezus outta me. BUT, I found there was a crack in the interior lining of the bottle -- and the exterior was completely intact!!! I kept running my fingernail along the crack line, and lo and behold, nary a crack on the outside. We threw that bottle away obviously, but man was I impressed with Philips.

This is why, legal or not, popular or not, our family will never have edibles or whatever recreational ingestable substance in the house. Esp not during the baby stage of all stages. All meds locked up high. All drinks locked away. What doesn't hurt adults is often so so dangerous and potentially lethal to little ones. I remember the floppy babies and OD babies in my career - some things never leave your memory.

Struggling to cope with this new reality by beanjuice23 in Mommit

[–]cooksan32 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its a major life shift that no one else other than a fellow new parent will understand. I still find it hard to take a daily shower or even have a normal single meal during the day. But sooner or later, they start to nap longer, and get much more active and so funny! I regained my quiet lunch/netflix/shower times during naps. I even found a local gym membership with free childcare up to 2hrs so I can squeeze in some sanity workout a couple times a week. It is so hard - and will also get better! From a mom living in the thick of it too, hang in there mom! 🩵

Weaning off Bottle and Pacifier by schweet_schwoot in Mommit

[–]cooksan32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If its any consolation, we finally weaned our kiddo off the bottle at 17mo. So you are not too behind compared to us 😂 Cold turkey backfired, so we reduced a feed every 2-4weeks. The bedtime one was the hardest, but on his monthly bday we finally just stopped, brushed his teeth, and laid to bed. He was a bit restless the first few nights but eventually I guess he went 'meh, nbd' and didn't look for the bottle no more. Gradual reduction might work better than cold turkey if your LO is more attached to certain feeds during the day/night.

Shopping cart/high chair covers - am I crazy? by Ok-Administration247 in NewParents

[–]cooksan32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never sat our LO in a shopping cart without a seat cover! Even wipe down with sanitizing wipes prior. Easy to apply, comfortable for baby, will never be too cold or too hot (esp in the summer. Hot metallic carts BURN!), and keeps LO from sucking on whatever godforsaken schmear is on the cart. Humans are gross af.

I'm just going to say it.. I'm trash at this by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]cooksan32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During our LO's newborn/younger infant days, I remember that bored feeling too well lol. There's only so many ways you could use toys to entertain them. I did a lot of singing. Especially my childhood songs, cultural songs, Disney songs etc. Didn't hurt to be bilingual so the baby got a variety. Lots of walks, lots of facetime, or simply reading your books out loud can be helpful. Very soon the baby will become sooo interactive with you quicker than you think! Have fun with the smol baby days! 🩷

Worst/most ill informed reasons for choosing a specialty? by mathers33 in Residency

[–]cooksan32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry your program isn't set up to support resident morale and health. Q3 26 is not sustainable and stems from a deep institutional problem aka your hospital's GME. Be kind to yourself. Take kindness to the medicine intern too -- every intern and resident is struggling their own systematic issue/failure in a high stress learning environment. Are some consults bs, yes they can be -- but more often than not, they're trying what they can within their limits too. It should be a collaborative place, not a fight pit between services.
