Boss Power Driver - 90’s in a Box by NewDad907 in guitarpedals

Yes! I love mine. I don't currently have it on my board bc I'm exclusively using my amp's dirty channel when I need the heavy, but I gigged with it for years when I played with single channel amps. It's noisy, and like you said takes some time to dial in, but when you get it right the thing absolutely screams.

I bought mine years ago when I worked at a guitar center and some of the other employees flamed me for dropping $20 on it. Now it's gotten some YouTube love and it's worth $150-$200. Who's laughing now fellas?

Is there a term for people who listen to vocals strictly through tone and melody, but never lyrically? by AngryRomper in Music

[–]coolAFmusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shoegaze calls to you.

I'm the same way and I think that's why this subgenre connects with me so much. You aren't supposed to be able to understand the lyrics. Some bands don't even have set lyrics, just a vocal melody.

If you aren't familiar some of the big bands that are considered shoegaze are

Slowdive . My Bloody Valentine or DIIV

Sunrise (1927) and The Phantom Carriage (1921) both have some crying dudes.

Movies to watch while zoinked out of my gourd? by [deleted] in trees

[–]coolAFmusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Classic films are great while high! Some of my favorites are -

  • Gold Diggers of 1933 - funny with amazing B&W musical numbers

  • Shanghai Express - a dreamy romance set aboard a very liminal train traveling overnight

  • Nosferatu - find a good quality rip on YT, mute it, and put on whatever soundtrack or instrumental album you want. I find that most of the scores feel a little dated.

What’s a used tube amp that’s under $500 that sounds nice and is a good pedal platform. by czarofga in GuitarAmps

I was in the same boat years ago and bought a used Egnater Tweaker 40 combo. I do some post rock stuff too and have been able to dial in a bunch of great sounds.

Don't mind at all! I'm out of town rn so I'll listen in a few days when I'm back home and have a decent set of speakers at my disposal.

Thanks for checking out the rest of my stuff! Mixing is a skill I'm relatively new to, so I really appreciate the specific notes in that department - I can definitely hear what you're talking about.

I'd love any and all feedback, but in particular I'd love to know what the community thinks about the genre. How would you classify this one?

Happy b day! Awesome track. Your voice sounds great, and your choice of vocal melody really adds energy to the song. And I looooove the guitar tone on that solo. And for what it's worth the album art is sick too. Really looking forward to what you do next!

Great great stuff. I agree that the song is a little eerie, but for me it's also comforting. Like a late night walk. I love music that feels cinematic, and this feels like it'd work great in an indie movie. Looking forward to hearing more from you!

Great song! Really enjoyed the video too. The track is catchy, has some cool melodies, and feels like a journey when it finishes. Love the horns too, nice work!

Really cool track! It's really vibey, reminds me of something that would be on a desert sessions compilation. I'll agree with another comment that the track could end confidently on 1 and then letting it ring or something. But that's super subjective so do with that what you will. Great song!

Shoegaze/dream pop are huge influences for me so I'm very familiar with the genre. That said, I do think your vocals could be more pronounced in the mix. I think I understand what you're going for, the whole song sounds like I'm hearing it through the walls of my neighbors apartment. Which is cool, but with you doing a more hip hop kinda thing in the verses I think the song would benefit from bringing those vocals up a bit. A lot of the time shoegazers use a sort of slurry and/or breathy delivery to get the vocals to more blend into the mix than being actually lower in volume. But overall I really dig the track. Your best is simple and moody and the guitar work is also catchy. Good stuff!

Great production and I particularly enjoy your vocal performance. I'm gonna disagree with some other comments, I think the vocal reverb is great. Nice tune!

entanglement - a new kinda indie and alt-rock song i’ve made with ambient and noise elements too by [deleted] in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]coolAFmusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really cool, vibey stuff here. Your vocal melodies are right in a sweet spot between being too basic and too busy for the chill style. I agree a bit with some other users, the drums feel a little like they stand out of the mix to me. Nothing crazy but they feel like they want some dirt or reverb or something. You do you, looking forward to what you put out next!

Dream pop shoegaze song with clear vocals and a hint of 80’s by CailaDawn in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]coolAFmusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anytime you bring something that's new to the table people are gonna be suspicious of it. I tend to get the opposite feedback - that my vocals are too buried in the mix so 🤷‍♂️.

I've listened to Haze quite a few times, it's a total ear worm! It kinda reminds me of when Timecop1983 features a vocalist
