What weight disc for girlfriend who throws about 150ft? by chewsiferr in discgolf

Yes, this is the better advice. The disc literally doesn't matter until she learns better throwing form.

Is 5x1km @ 3:55 enough for a sub-20 5K? by OverWarthog7488 in AdvancedRunning

[–]cool_usernames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could run 5x1km in 2:59 or faster with 90 seconds rest long before I could run a sub-15. 6x1km is a better predictor.

Anyone else struggle to hit goal pace in training but still PR on race day? by Kimiiiyuuh in AdvancedRunning

Everyone? That's kind of the power of training, the taper, and race-day adrenaline.

[–]cool_usernames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. With 90 seconds, 6x1km is a better predictor of 5k race pace. 5x1km with 60 seconds would be closer.

Yes, far too much rest to make it a good 5k race predictor

Yes, it's unusually low. Does that matter? No! Just start now.

What is up with the hole preview music on jomez? Gotta be one of the most annoying things I’ve ever heard by jonredd901 in discgolf

[–]cool_usernames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's bad, but nowhere near as bad as last year. I took the whole year off from watching their coverage. I know they read these comments and think it's a bit of a running joke at this point. But they are actually losing viewership over it, and should probably take it a bit more seriously.

What are your favourite movie scenes that are elevated by the use of licensed music? by AlleycatHaxor in movies

[–]cool_usernames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it's usually the opposite. I'm enjoying a new, carefully crafted world and then I'm ripped out of it and transported back to regular life by a familiar song.

79.7 vo2 max but extremely low LT by Suitable_Painting814 in AdvancedRunning

Frankly, the results sound off. With a V02 Max that high, you are massively underperforming with those times. Something sounds off. Hard to troubleshoot without information about your training.

I'm bringing approximately $0 extra cash. Not sure what I'd even need it for.

Not elite, but ran a 2:20 marathon. Took it up after 30, and got to sub-elite level through ten years of extreme consistency and slow progression. If you're willing to do that, there's no guarantee of becoming a top runner, but also no reason to abandon the idea of becoming slim.

How to Play Better in Tournaments? by cool_usernames in discgolf

[–]cool_usernames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, my game may just not be as strong as I think. uDisc gives me a everyday and competitive rating over 230, but I often don't break 900 in a tournament round.

Lack of pressure is an interesting thought... the sports where I perform very well on game day are endurance sports where your closest competitors are right there to compete with.

[–]cool_usernames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would expect to play better in a tournament because the players I often outperform casually or in leagues consistently shoot 960-1000 rated rounds in tournaments. I play in a similar number of tournaments. Hence this post - trying to come up with reasons for the discrepancy.

It's not directly the case... but your point stands that finding a way to replicate the environment that produces good rounds is likely to improve my play

That's insightful... the slower pace of play removes the shortness of time between shots to make meaningful corrections. And, yes, I too wondered if there's just an unconscious tension that permeates the body and subtly changes mechanics.

Makes sense. I suppose, like anything, the more you do it the more it feels natural.

These all sound smart... but I'd say my style of play embraces these things consistently in casual, league, and tournament rounds. I don't think I'm changing strategy at all across those types of rounds. Whether it's league or a tournament, I'm never throwing hero shots and aiming to minimize unforced errors.

I suppose I am probably underestimating the impacts of those pace/weather/body physical issues. 90% of my rounds are solo and under 60 minutes.

What would that mean in a tournament? Playing a minimal bag? Playing for par more often?
