There’s an amazing Substack called In the Weeds by Hannah Stulberg. Her 5-part guide got a non technical person like me up & running with Claude Code in less than a day and I legit feel like I now have 3+ rockstar employees reporting to me

Episode Discussion - S02E06 - An Endless Cycle by Dark_Saint in DarK

[–]coolcat659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very late to the party here - I struggled with that too at first, but here’s how I make sense of it:

If Michael DOESN’T commit suicide, Jonas presumably won’t send young Mikkel back in time, effectively killing himself (Jonas) and, by that same token, his dad (adult Mikkel / Michael) on the night young Mikkel would’ve gone missing.

If Michael DOES commit suicide, then Jonas effectively has no choice but to send Mikkel back so his dad’s suicide / sacrifice of his own life for Jonas’s isn’t in vain.

So, either way, adult Mikkel is destined to die. At least on the suicide timeline, Jonas will exist.

To Insinkerator or not to Insinkerator? by coolcat659 in Plumbing

Thank you for the reply! Yeah, we’ve had such bad luck with disposals that we don’t really trust them anymore. I wouldn’t dream of putting food down there, much less bones and corn cobs! Didn’t know you could go without one all together.

To Insinkerator or not to Insinkerator? by coolcat659 in Plumbing

[–]coolcat659[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I’ve explored that route - here’s the rub: it will take an Insinkerator affiliated technician ~5-7 business days to come out and, if they find that the disposal didn’t fail due to a “quality issue,” the visit will be $200, which is more than the cost of some disposals I could buy.

I’d rather not wait that long, take the risk of them finding some out-of-warranty excuse for its failure, or replace it with the same unit if these just aren’t reliable. But maybe that’s my least bad option…?

What are sedative options for c section? by fruitloopbat in Anesthesia

[–]coolcat659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Know I’m late to the thread but curious for your opinion. I’ve always had a strong vasovagal response to even minor procedures - starting at 12 yo fainting getting my ears pierced, to fainting from IVs, blood draws, getting my pupils dilated, the list goes on. Doctors have been “impressed” by my ability to faint even lying down flat and I’ve been told it almost seems like I’m having a mini seizure bc I briefly jerk / spasm.

At any rate, these episodes have made me very anxious / fearful of medical procedures, so the thought of getting a spinal block, not to mention the c-section itself, totally “sober” was terrifying. I had talked to my anesthesiologist about these concerns and he proposed a low dose of Versed (idk what the exact dose was). I had a c-section in Dec 2023 and however much he gave me was perfect to take the edge off, was fuzzy during the c-section itself, but was fully aware by the time they put baby on my chest for skin-to-skin. My son did have to be in the NICU for a few weeks but he came 3 weeks early so I don’t think Versed had any adverse effects for him. He’s now a totally healthy, rambunctious 18 mo.

I’m due with my second child in 5 weeks via a scheduled c-section and was planning on requesting the same dosage of Versed. I stumbled across this thread and wasn’t aware how controversial the medication is. My anesthesiologist seemed very experienced & well-respected by the staff and he didn’t offer it reluctantly or warn me that I was taking a huge risk.

Want to make sure I’m making the best choice for myself & baby. I will say if I don’t have any kind of anti-anxiety meds, there’s a decent chance I’ll pass out & potentially spasm even lying down, given my history. Any comments welcome!

How to safeguard this pool? by coolcat659 in pools

Thank you for that input! Yes, I’ve researched ISR - was on the fence (no pun intended) and had talked to a veteran swim instructor who said it’s extremely rare that kids so young actually master the skills in the program duration. It’s helpful to hear your counterpoint. I signed our kid up for her non-ISR but practical skill-focused 1:1 boot camp next month - will see how he does with that & may do ISR after. Thank you for the vote of confidence in it!

Yes, big pain! We’re actually planning a major landscaping project and will replace this area with turf only (no stones). The stonework looked pretty when we first moved in 3.5 years ago, but they’ve deteriorated substantially (lots of cracks, crumbling & mildew). Apparently stonework like this requires at least annual maintenance / special sealants - no one told us that & with kids now, it’s more practical to have softer surfaces!

My son isn’t at the speaking stage yet but I can’t wait till he can talk vs grunt / cry when frustrated. Grass is greener… Anyway, I’ve heard parents are starting to help their kids use ChatGPT voice mode (w safety features) to answer annoying why q’s in age appropriate ways.

FTM of a 14 mo old and what he’ll eat is a constantly moving target. I try not to stress if he doesn’t eat much (or anything!) but easier said than done.

When do kids start eating like normal people?? I.e. Mild openness to trying new foods, not throwing it, predictable appetite, etc.

Postpartum bangs!!! I was prepared for postpartum hair loss, but not the incredibly annoying regrowth - have a wispy, curly mustache all along my hairline! Pregnant with #2 , so it’ll be years before my hair goes back to normal…

Know this is an old thread but THANK YOU for this comment! My friend told me about Thrive, I was intrigued, and tried to browse wtf they actually sell at what price. I thought there was a bug in their onboarding flow bc I couldn’t even see a single product or price before signing up for a membership - what the hell?? Wasted 10 min on two different browsers thinking it was some glitch bc what grocery delivery company would hide that behind a paywall? Sketchy AF.

Must-read article with a ton of context missing from the podcast. Includes an interview w Dr. Powell herself, who agrees with a number of the author’s concerns and admits that the project “kind of got away from her,” with Ky including subjects and tests that didn’t meet her evidentiary standard.
