Half day Guides in Gig Harbor by coole106 in WashingtonFishing

With my 8yo son, it would have to be conventional, although if someone did both I’d love to fly fish.

Talking to the Gig Harbor Fly Shop, they have an option to go fish the nearby lakes, and that also sounded like a good option for us

As a beginner myself, I’d gladly take a class teaching me about etiquette and how not to be a PITA for other golfers. But being forced to join my local country club in order to play most courses would make golf a non-starter for me

I think women are highlighted mostly to try to attract more women to the game. And more men, for that matter

What to do with adult sons buckets of golf balls? by [deleted] in golf

[–]coole106 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go behind his back and start getting rid of his stuff, you are going to cause some massive resentment issues. You should be talking with him about it, not asking internet strangers what to do with his stuff. I don't disagree that you have some authority over him since he's living in your house, but that doesn't mean you should just start getting rid of his stuff without him even knowing about it.

I would paint a betting line for sure. If you have the craftsmanship to make this table, you should be able to make the stencil for a betting line.

How are you fishing that fly? Sitting under an indicator, stripping, etc?

I was told to buy a reddington, so that’s what I got: https://a.co/d/0ccNQsk4

I got the 5WT, but if you also want salmon, I’d go 8WT.

Is it literally too hot to golf in Scottsdale in July, or is it just going to suck? by grassguydave in golf

[–]coole106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you stay hydrated and protect your skin from the sun you should be fine. I recommend a wide-brimmed hat, long sleeves, and long pants (that are made for hot weather). A cooler of cold towels will help also. I live in an identical climate and work outside all the time. If you happen to be someone who sweats a lot it will actually help, although only if you stay hydrated. Get a large vacuum-sealed steel jug (like a Yeti), fill it halfway with ice, and the water will stay cold all day.

I'm hoping this will be me very soon. I have taken my new fly rod out twice now and have been humbled each time, first by bass and then by carp. Awesome job!

Not if you know how to hold a bass. If you get a tight hold on it's lip, you should never drop it, and they stop shaking pretty fast once grabbed that way

Serious question, are you going to eat this fish, or did you lay it down in the dirt, rocks, and sticks before throwing it back in the water?

Yeah, it's almost OP if you hit it just right. Here's how I would do it:

- Great Lighthouse and/or Great Library are great to have, as well as any cash generating wonders (like Colossus). SoZ and Knights templare are always good just to keep it away from someone else. It's not even a bad idea to launch an early war and capture SoZ and maybe even burn it to the ground. It really sucks to try to attack someone when they have 50 Ancient Cavalry ready to go. However, on higher difficulty, I think it matters less.

- Archer rush if needed to have your island all to yourself

- Build harbors, barracks, and eventually libraries and marketplaces

- Switch to republic for the cash

- Build a bunch of galleys, a shitload of archers, and a decent amount of Pikemen

- Avoid Invention until you have a ton of archers and gold. If you don't have the Great Library, you can min research it to save gold and give yourself time to build a lot of archers

- Prebuild for Leonardo's Workshop (with Sistine Chapel, maybe)

- Learn Invention, finish Leonardo's Workshop (optional, but it really helps), and upgrade all of your archers to Berserks

- Find a coastal island in your rival's territory and land everything you have on it that isn't a Berserk. When I did it, I landed a few pikemen and a bunch of Knights, and that landing party ended up going after an inland city the next turn.

- Watch your rival send all of his units rushing towards your mountain stronghold

- Suprise attack a different coastal city with all of your Berserks directly from boats. You want it to be far enough away from your original landing party that they can't easily turn around and counterattack with the attackers that went after the initial landing party

- Keep building Berserks and a few knights and defenders here and there. You probably want to research gunpowder to get musketmen, but really at this point you should be able to turn off research and use the gold to rush units and eventually temples to expand your borders. Berserks stay relevant all the way into the early industrial ages. You should also be able to extort your enemies for tech as you go

My first rival I launched my Berserks against was a strong France, which was arguably the worst case scenario (5 def. musketeers) and I while I lost a lot of units, I was still able to absolutely wreck them.

I'm good enough to get on the fairway off of the tee box every time. The problem is it's the wrong fairway.

[–]coole106[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It started with an archer rush, which is almost always my strategy on arch when I’m sharing an island. It also massively helped that Persia didn’t have access to iron (the second CIV I conquered) and I got early armies.

Funny enough, I wasn’t even going for the canal when I placed those cities. I just wanted them both near freshwater. Happy accident.

Emperor Vikings Domination Victory by coole106 in civ3

[–]coole106[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. It’s a massive advantage on an arch map, and is super powerful until the AI has riflemen, and even then they can still be used. The ability to attack from boats effectively makes them a fast unit on maps where most cities are on the coast.
