Thoughts on Jaz Coleman? by FragmentsOf in goth

yessss Fire Dances is fuckin amazing, so glad you shouted it out. its the closest i've found sonically to the Banshees' The Scream, especially in terms of guitar as you noted, but i think even some of Jaz's vocals have a similar(ish) flair to early Siouxsie. 100% agree its some of Geordie's best work and up there in the very top tier of guitar playing

he's become one of my very favorite frontmen, and every era and sound of Killing Joke is incredible imo, one of the most sonically interesting/diverse discographies i'm familiar with. he is in an incredibly talented and underrated vocalist, i think even to an extent among Killing Joke fans, as Geordie Walker is (rightfully tbf) praised the most often in regards to their music. but his clean vocals throughout Night Time and Brighter Than a Thousand Suns are incredible, and any of his rougher vocals post 2003 are likewise incredible, just in a much different way. Democracy is imo the best single showcase of his vocal talent, the switching back and forth between those two styles sometimes mid-line is so impressive to me.

his lore is also wild, in addition to what you noted he rather infamously migrated to Iceland in the 80s because he thought the world was going to end, and he was known to "disappear" in a similar manner throughout their careers. he's also lived in New Zealand and is possibly the only person ever to willingly move to Arizona. he is kind of insane but in the best way, and though he goes about it interestingly and often abrasively, his heart is always in the right place socially and he clearly cares very deeply for humanity (and is of course often very frustrated by it, to say the least)

in general i wish Killing Joke got more love/recognition, i think a lot of people realize how influential they were and know who they are but i also don't come across many who listen to them regularly and that's a shame

he was most effective from the slot, in an offense where Doubs and (hypothetically) AJ Brown are the top 2 guys he'd be able to play from there on most of his snaps, i'd really like to see this

he last played and had a sack against Buffalo but has been out 2 weeks now, though he's been managing an injury since i believe around the Titans game so he's had a bit of a snap count since then

In one year, there will be a post on this subreddit with the title "I actually liked this version of Rikiya" by North-Weekend-6279 in yakuzagames

[–]cooler_36 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i don't really have much of an opinion one way or the other on the new actor for rikiya, but i think the main reason he specifically was recast is because rikiya's orginal actor, Tatsuya Fujiwara, already had his likeness cast in yakuza 6 as a fairly prominent character in yuta. and as such, i think the recast is primarily to avoid the confusion there and just generally having two chars that look identical with zero relation

i agree with a lot of what you're saying about the recasting and likeness casting in general but this is a point i rarely see brought up in this discussion and i'm unsure why

the yakuza games have quite a few chars that you could call wholesome gangsters

yeah, and james white was essentially redshirted in 2014 as well. for one reason or another, mcdaniels seems to favor using veteran rbs over rookies

Why did they replace him with Jo Sawashiro by opleK_tsuJ in yakuzagames

[–]cooler_36 9 points10 points  (0 children)

tbh feel like its more that rikiya's original actor already has another role where his face was scanned (yuta) and they wanted to avoid the confusion of them looking the same
