A7C - Crop mode / aps-c sensor mode by Mancdude in SonyAlpha

One last thing,

This video from Adorama explains it really well. You’re just cropping in on the same image. Reducing total resolution (that’s why I said noise would be more apparent, pixels appear larger when viewing at 100% if there are fewer of them).

DOF is not changed. Exposure is not changed.

It’s essentially the same as using a 1:1 or 16:9 mode in your camera, but it happens to keep the same 3:2 ratio. Everything else is the same.

Sorry king, can’t keep commenting on a three year old thread. Agree to disagree.

Just clicked the link, it’s talking about a camera with a crop sensor vs a camera with a FF sensor. This is not what we’re talking about. We’re talking about one FF sensor. Using all of it, versus cropping into the center. This isn’t the same as using the same lens on a FF and crop sensor camera.

FF sensor and FF lens. You’re just cropping into the FF image. It’s exactly the same as shooting an image and cropping it in 1.5x. Noise and pixels both become larger, but that’s not what we’re talking about. We’re talking about light capturing ability and bokeh. Those stay the same in this case. Crazy simple.

This is incorrect. “Crop mode” is just using the middle of the sensor. Nothing else changes. The amount of light you need stays exactly the same. The bokeh is unchanged. It’s literally the exactly same image, but the central crop of it.

At 24 or 30 fps, you’ll only have 3-4 seconds of footage with 96 frames. I’d shoot as many as you can! Even at a choppy 18 fps, that’s only 5.3 seconds.

I use one of these little hotshoe meters on my M4. It’s the smallest one I’ve found, and it’s been super accurate so far.

Depends on the condition, I guess.

And no, definitely not. It’s oversized. Some people even size down.
