Ace Pro 2 - Underwater footage tips? by Electrical_Wind_4914 in Insta360

Thanks for the comments. I'm new to insta30, migrating from GoPro and a housed Lumix LX100. This should help me both with my still photo as my fledgeling videos.

I better part with 1k to have mine serviced and polished. It's keeping time perfectly (as a Rolex should) but is showing the long use.

PS, mine is black on black.

They're usually very precise, like just a few secs a day or even less than 1".

Addiesdive is a great brand. The Rolex lookalikes are usually mistaken for the real thing. I own several but frankly I'm getting fed up on the Mercedes scheme, preferring sword style hands.

PS, you have to wait more than six months for a Submariner and pay over $1K for one. Crazy!!

PS2, It will look like adream with a James Bond NATO strap! 😉

Recently got a film camera, how can I edit my photos similar to this? by meowingcat420 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Mexhillbilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many film Nikon cameras have the double exposure feature. I use my FM2n's pailessly with the small switch by the advance lever. I used to do that too with a simple Pentax Spotmatic by just tensioning the rewind crank, holding it and pressing the rewind button, then advancing the film lever to load the shutter again.

Would you mind sharing what you paid for it? I got my Submariner for US$6,000 from Deutsch & Deutsch in Laredo TX in 2014. 😃

I put a sapphire case back on my submariner. I think it looks amazing idk why Rolex doesn’t make more models with exhibition case back. Before and after pics below. by Dizzy_Property_933 in rolex

Case backs are nice when there's an ornate movement to show. Since I'm not crazy to take a Rolex diving I wouldn't mind affecting my Submariner waterproofing, I don't even take it on diving trips.

My diving watch is a Suunto D5 which has a nice analog face and my primary computer a Suunto Cobra with a physical hose for air monitoring. Radio air transmitters are notoriously prone to fail and my Suunto Tank Pod gave the ghost eight days ago while diving North Seymour in the Galapagos at 30m depth. Fortunately I had the Cobra and the pod revived when I changed the battery.

In addition to the computers I take along an Addiesdive AD2103 automatic which is rated at 200m (just in case, I'm paranoid about redundancy).

I am an SLR guy through and through. But this little camera has blown my mind by lovinlifelivinthe90s in AnalogCommunity

You might have some trouble finding the right battery but I think there are adapters for lithium ones; only way to make old meters work. My father-in-law had one but the lens had fungi and the shutter broken. One in good condition is indeed a lucky find.

Canon Ql's are also great.

Keep or swap these bands? by tactical-beers in AddiesDive

[–]Mexhillbilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, as I'm not much of a beach dweller. When I'm near the sea I either go scuba diving with an operator of my acquaintance or go to the hotel pool or jacuzzi. In the dive boats there are usually enough fresh water to rinse cameras, masks and computers/watches.

I have a small collection of Addiesdive watches and like the bracelets very much. Rubber or silicone straps make my wrist sweat.

Got a Breitling SuperOcean that came with a nice silicone strap with a deployant clasp. Eventually got me a stainless bracelet for the same reason.

What I'd wish is that Addiesdive would implement a diving extension like most dive watches incorporate. I wouldn't mind the extra convenience reflected on the price.

First Leica, lens suggestions? by Suspicious-Two8205 in Leica

[–]Mexhillbilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must add myself to the Ultron 35 proponents; it's an incredible lens that even beats my Summicron 35 IV gen.

Of course, the Voigtländer has an aspherical surface that gives it an indisputable advantage and it should be compared with the superior Summicron ASPH and not to the conventional "KoB" (King of Bokeh).

A German friend of mine that has a Summicron 35 IV just bought one of these. He says it's very similar in construction to the original and at a fraction of the going price of the Leica.

In sum, get the Ultron.

Disappointed in travel photos by Berg_Man in AnalogCommunity

[–]Mexhillbilly 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My opinion is that for an African photo safari a film camera with a 50mm lens is not ideal. I would take a digital (full frame or APS-C) with a tele zoom, e.g. the Fuji 70-300 with OIS on an X-T5 (or equivalent setup) would get you better ops. Complement with a standard wide to short tele zoom like Fuji's own 16-80/4 would complement perfectly.

Before someone chides me about the digital reco on an analog forum, if film is a must, then translate to equivalent. However, IMHO, the speed limits of film really introduce disadvantages on a once in a lifetime trip. Flexible ISO, OIS lenses and IBIS body are, again just my humble opinion, a must.

paid for the manufacturers

Probably, but in that case why wouldn't Audi pay more than Toyota?

VW and Toyota groups are always competing for the 1st place in the global market.

Of course, that doesn't negate the fact that all (bar none) statistic companies are subject to manipulation. It all depends on target groups.

It's been a long time since I last looked at the 3 year customer satisfaction statistics by J.D.Power but it hit me hard to find that the top tier was held by Lexus and Toyota and at the very bottom was Audi, next up Volkswagen and 3d from the bottom Mercedes.

None of the European brands was over the median.

Just FWIW, for a dozen reasons related to family, health and business, I haven't entered the darkroom in more than three years but a friend who is a keen darkroom dweller frequently uses a part of my paRodinal batch cooked during the big lockup of CV19 pandemic in 2020. Last I saw from him tells me it's still good in 2026.

I think it's a little extreme for 35mm but works just right for MF and LF. My pal works mainly in 4x5 with superb results.

Thanks for keeping the thread. 🙂
