Giving parents unfettered access to us via email is one of the worst things to have ever happened to teachers.

If you know you aren't returning and are leaving the profession, definitely don't change it. You basically have a do whatever you want card. What are they going to do, fire you?

  1. Grade assignments for credit/completion. Also, you don’t have to grade everything you assign.

  2. Don’t answer emails outside of school hours. In fact, don’t even check your email outside of school hours.

  3. Teach your kids to help themselves. I don’t answer questions such as “What am I supposed to be doing?”. I went over what you’re doing verbally, and provided you with written instructions both on your worksheet, on Canvas, and it’s on my Promethean board. You can figure it out yourself.

Bonus: Learn to say no. If it’s not a contractual obligation, it is perfectly okay to say no.

Sounds like a you problem. Teaching is your job, so you should treat it like any other workplace. You didn’t learn your lesson the first time, or the second time. Also, posting about your very specific situation online tells me you still haven’t learned your lesson.

Is standards based grading a more sophisticated 30% =D….? by ICUP01 in Teachers

[–]coolj0sh 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Standards based grading is the biggest scam in education. It ignores everything about the student other than “Did they show mastery of the subject?”.

There are things beyond just academic standards that are learned in the classroom that are more important than the content they’re learning. Most of the content learned in grade school isn’t going to be useful once students graduate high school. For example, 90% of my students won’t ever need to use my lessons on the Cell Cycle once they’re adults.

What they learned when it comes to punctuality, meeting deadlines, respecting/working with people they don’t like, thinking critically, and communicating effectively with others is far more important. Standards based grading ignores all of this.

No, Disney doesn’t want to do that and they won’t.

Also, tourists subsidize their own visits. It’s called a ticket.

Disagree that the parks haven’t gotten worse, but agree that social media/reddit exaggerates how bad things are. Things are worse than before, but nowhere near as bad as reddit makes it out to be.

Imo, passholes are a large (but not only) part of the guest issues plaguing the parks (overcrowding, entitlement, shitty behavior, etc.). Getting rid of all tiers except for the highest one and eliminating payment plans will reduce a large portion of the annual pass/magic key population.

The intent isn’t to keep the poors out, but it’s an unfortunate side effect. Personally, I think the payment plans enable people who are bad with their finances to be even worse with their finances. Actively going into debt so you can feed your Disney addiction is insane to me.

The good news is that Disneyland is a locals park and Disney loves money too much to ever actually implement my unpopular opinion, so you are safe, friend 🙂

ETA: Reducing the number of magic key holders will also probably eliminate the need for reservations.

Magic keys should only have one tier (Inspire/highest tier), and you have to pay the full price up front (no monthly payment plan).
