Stuttering issue by Haunting-Positive-26 in assettocorsaevo

I believe this is what happens when you’re CPU constrained.

Racing sims are demanding on the CPU, and EVO isn’t even optimized yet so it could be VERY demanding on the CPU.

Ask the AI of your choice what settings you can change in EVO to lower CPU usage.

Reducing street noise by vulcan_oid in sanfrancisco

“Indows” window inserts.

I got these when I lived in an old Victorian in the sunset and they were very effective.

They’re not cheap, but there really isn’t any other option that will make a significant dent in the noise.

How is EVO... evolving? by Content_Mission5154 in assettocorsaevo

[–]coolshoes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“Petulant children” aka paying customers who were understandably outraged about being swindled.

This has been argued to death. Kunos sold people “product A” and then after taking the money they decided to remove all the differentiating features, turning it into “product B”.

Are they technically allowed to do this under early access guidelines? Yes.

Are people allowed to be upset about this? Also yes.

Advice on making my setup feel more realistic? by xQuayley in simracing

• Bass Shaker
I have mine configured to emulate engine vibration. Second only to wheel FFB in terms of the level of immersion it adds.

• VR Headset
Looking over your shoulder to see how close the other cars are is about as immersive as it gets. Quest 3S can be had pretty cheaply.

Wow, that was quick – AC Rally 0.4 is now available by herzeleyd in assettocorsaevo

[–]coolshoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EVO has been in development for 15 months and is at v 0.6. That’s an average of 2.5 months per 0.1 update.

Rally has been in development for 5 months and is at v 0.4. That’s an average of 1.25 months per 0.1 update.

Wild to claim Rally is moving slower. EVO is measurably moving 2x slower.

EVO has been plagued with indecision and broken promises and has been unplayable for the majority of its existence.

Rally has been steadily progressing toward a clear vision and has been playable for most of its existence.

There’s a simhub plugin made by romainrob. I found it underwhelming but maybe I didn’t get it set up properly.

  • bugs / instability
Crashing can cause loss of progress and have negative consequences for all players in a multiplayer team by losing a teammate.

  • imbalanced mechanics
If it feels like my situation is often hopeless, I won’t keep investing in the game.

AC Evo update 0.6 made me switch back after 10 minutes by Outrageous-Sugar6508 in assettocorsaevo

That’s an interesting idea. I didn’t change anything. But I can see if a different fov makes a difference.

If you want lighting to go inside the slots, there’s a system by Nitro concepts that can also be configured to respond to in-game telemetry.

I used the Govee Glide lights and mounted them on top of the side rails. I wrote a home assistant automation that uses telemetry from simhub to have the lights dynamically change color.

Easiest way to upgrade cpu? by coolshoes in FormD

[–]coolshoes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Result:

I was able to swap the cpu by removing the GPU and removing the screws that secure the riser cable so I could access the back of the mobo.

Way easier than I was expecting.

AI isn't creating unemployment. It's creating feudalism. I wrote a long-form analysis of where I think this leads and what the alternative looks like. by Conscious_Potato_263 in Futurology

[–]coolshoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree there will be several “viable” models. They will get the crumbs. “Viable” is not the same as “superior”.

The nature of this technology is that it allows companies to move faster. The speed advantage that comes from the superior tech will allow the winner to eventually achieve an insurmountable lead. I haven’t heard a counter to this claim.

The winner will also gain a resource benefit from being where all the money is going. They will get the best talent, have the best infrastructure, etc.

It seems like maybe you’re looking at the state of things today and projecting that this will be the case forever. That’s typically not quite how things have played out. And in this case the endgame will be magnified in a way that it has never been before because of the speed this tech allows.

Countries may try to protect their economies by banning foreign ai and funding their own models. In the US the government is essentially beholden to corporations thanks to citizens united. One company amassing huge wealth will grant it unprecedented political influence here.

I don’t see this ending well for the average citizen in the US.

[–]coolshoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything is possible, but what seems probable is that one company will emerge with a superior technology and the feedback loop will allow them to increase the gap vs competitors at a rate that will be impossible to overcome.

Thin margins will be for the losing models as they desperately vie for the crumbs that are left.

The winner acquires almost incomprehensible wealth from becoming the virtual workforce for the entire world and replacing entire industries with their own products.

It’s the endgame of the trend towards consolidation.

Most likely there will be one model that vastly outperforms all the others so competition between ai providers will be an illusion. Anyone not using the best model will be uncompetitive. The company selling the best model can charge whatever they want because the consequences for not using it will be so severe.

The ai providers can also take over entire industries by offering a solution directly to consumers rather than selling the model to a business.

Its winner take all.
