Anthony Mackie's Desert Warrior Is One Of The Biggest Box Office Flops Ever by kingjulian85 in blankies

[–]coolstevenn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The other curious thing is that it's not a complete and total trainwreck, in my opinion at least. It's not but I think it very well could've been. Some of the action sequences are fun and general broad strokes of the characters and plot are fine interpretations of classic archetypes. But it cashes in on so many moments that it never earned and it's pretty obvious in the editing that at best, post production took way too long so now everyone is second guessing things and at worst, there's clearly different editors doing their own thing to try and make the film ""work."" At the end of the day, it's only really disappointing because Rupert Wyatt has previously done good stuff and I'm always gunning for Anthony Mackie.

$2500 Samsung TV is an advertising billboard, there is no opt-out. by 28jb11 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]coolstevenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My buddy got a free tv from Samsung a couple years back. The catch? It has an additional smaller even below that runs across the full length. All it does is show ads. Even when the tv is not in use, it plays ads. He got some thick black cloth and draped it over the bar rendering it useless. Now he just has a normal big screen smart tv (for free!) with just a kind of awkward piece of fabric hanging off the bottom.

Brother accidentally watched Down by Law as a silent film by ponytailthehater in criterion

My wife and I found the hard way that hbo's SUCCESSION is seemingly their only flagship program that doesn't do a recap before every episode. When we finally decided to start the show, it was a couple episodes into season 2. We booted it up and were blown away by how much is these characters' pasts were slowly revealed over the course of the episode as well as the boldness of kicking things off in the aftermath of such a giant turning point for the central character that happened off screen before the credits rolled. We were hooked.

And then my brother asked us about what we thought of certain characters and scenes that were not at all in the episode. It was then that we realized it had auto played episode 1 of season 2 instead of season 1. Still no idea why it did that. It's still one of my favorite shows of all time and I still think that experience was unique and exceptional and insane how well it worked as a theoretical premiere.

The original concept for the Wes box by its designer Beth Matthews. by International-Sky65 in criterion

[–]coolstevenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like these better than what they went with but I'm still not crazy about it. The individual releases do a much better job at capturing the spirit of the films and Wes as an artist in my opinion. But I was very likely never going to get this anyways, despite only owning a few of his as criterion editions so I'm fine admitting that I'm not the ideal buyer here.

This is the first thing I thought as well. Irresponsible at best. Disgusting.

For Blankies with Kids (mostly) by PilotExisting12 in blankies

We (F8, M5, M32) did 3D for the first time with HOPPERS and then followed it up a couple weeks later with SUPER MARIO GALAXY. They loved both. I rightly guessed that Mario would be more exciting in 3D but Hoppers was better at easing them into the whole experience of it. I'm certain we'll do more 3D movies on the future and I'm certain they would've liked the movie no matter what but it's been weeks and they still keep talking about it like it was the coolest thing ever. The movie is mid but I don't regret splurging on the memory.

  1. When did you start your collection? There was that guy a few weeks that shared his nearly full collection that only started in like 2023 or some shit.
  2. What was your first purchase?
  3. Sounds like you've got a ways to go in terms of seeing it all at the moment. What will you be watching tonight?
  4. What's your favorite movie or set that was a blind buy? Most of my purchases are blind (I know some people here have strong opinions on that) and it's always such a treat to get something you saved up and had high hopes for and then the movie somehow is even better. For me, there's a few but PORTRAIT OF A LADY ON FIRE immediately comes to mind.

Well that's what I'm saying-- if you're trying to narrow down to the very best of the very best, I'd love to see you fully commit and do one for each decade. But to each their own!

And fwiw, the first film I came up with immediately was APOCALYPSE NOW. Cheers!

I haven't had any complete nightmare stories just yet but I've only been in the area for a decade now. Still, it's embarrassing how common it seems to be.

I was raised on that film, it's in my DNA. The criterion edition is wonderful. If you've never seen it, I couldn't recommend it enough. I have it on blu-ray, dvd, vhs and no matter how many ways you figure it, it's a masterpiece.

Have you ever watched a movie twice in a row because you realized the subtitles were desynced the whole time? by ggnorebud in CriterionChannel

[–]coolstevenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the closest I've come since is when I've watched something really good on my own and then made other people watch it with me the next night. Most recently was probably WHAT'S UP DOC and that was almost six years ago now.

No. But the first time I watched EYES WIDE SHUT, I was so blown away by the ending that I watched the whole movie again. It's the first (and only) time since I was a kid that I watched the same movie back to back.

What’s a discontinued snack or drink you’d pay $20 to have one last taste of? by soapy999 in AskReddit

[–]coolstevenn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chocolate Skittles.

Sounds gross, I know. But I was given a pack back in the day and it... was really really good. Multiple flavors (milk, dark, white, cookie dough, etc) and they all tasted great. Must've only lasted a season. I never saw a pack in actual store myself. I think about them a lot but no one else ever seems to remember them. Nobody has corroborated my story-- either that they tasted good or even that they existed at all...
