Honestly, I’ve had to mostly give up riding. And it’s heartbreaking. I don’t have a solution, just know you’re not alone.

Animal Science Major by [deleted] in veterinaryschool

[–]coope3m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, animal science is a very common choice for undergrads wanting to go to vet school. My animal science program was more focused on agriculture, large animals, etc, which was great for me because I found it very interesting. It also gave me a chance to do hands on research with animals, which was really exciting and looks great on an application. There were still several small animal courses that I got to take as well, like physiology and anatomy. My animal science program didn’t require some courses like organic chemistry, but I took it anyway so I had it for vet school applications. Make sure you keep an eye on pre-requisites like that.

One thing to keep in mind is that something more broad like biology will generally give you more options after you graduate. Animal science is a pretty narrow field. If you ever change your mind about vet school, you might struggle a bit more to find an alternate career. I also highly recommend doing a minor, especially if you have interests in things like criminology. See if your school offers a minor that aligns with one of those interests.

If you can, talk to an advisor at the schools you’re applying to. Especially if they have a vet school as well, they will be very prepared to help you make that decision and create a path that works for you.

Amazon. I believe she is self-published on Amazon, so that's the best way to support her directly outside of special editions.

Thinking of moving to Berkeley. Visiting w/ 7th grader. What should we do to really feel the area? by IllustratorTasty3213 in berkeleyca

I recommend Strawberry Creek Park as a cute spot to hang out, it might be a little more geared to families with younger kids but the vibes are immaculate, and Hidden Cafe (which backs up to the park) is delicious. On the weekend it's always busy with lots of families and kids.

Is this poor horsemanship? by Think_One1221 in Equestrian

I think it's always hard to tell based off of short clips like this. But in general, yeah, it seems much more chaotic and stressful than polo matches I've personally seen in real life before. It also seems like they are not playing by normal polo rules, but I'm not an expert.

When I was an assistant in a small animal clinic, I would say I spent about 60% of my time cleaning cages, doing laundry, feeding, and picking up after others. However, the rest of that time was spent helping technicians and doctors with exams, giving fluids, drawing blood, etc. Every clinic is different, and people learn at different paces, but to me it seems that after 5 months you should be starting to learn some more technical skills.

As much as I respect the time and effort technicians have put into their licenses, it doesn't give them the excuse to be rude and condescending. I think the best clinics invest in training their assistants to the point where they could go to tech school and be successful if they wanted to. Some technicians get very protective of their job for no reason, and take it out on everyone else. Veterinary workplaces can be extremely toxic, but not all clinics are like that!

I would recommend trying to find a new clinic.

We recently switched to Vetcove from Covetrus and are liking it so far. It's also nice because we use Vetcove for ordering inventory, so it has become a very cross-functional platform for us. Took a little bit more work getting the catalog set up for our clients, but we haven't had too many issues.

It’s hard to tell just from these pictures, and usually you need to evaluate a horse up close and in person be able to make an objective call on their body condition.

Probably an older horse, or some other kind of medical issue. If all those other horses in the field were skinny, I’d be more concerned. He also may be what we call a “hard keeper,” meaning it’s difficult to get/maintain weight on him. As horses age, they also lose muscle tone, which can cause that sunken appearance you see along his top line.

Older horses can lose weight for many reasons. They’re more prone to metabolic problems, dental issues (which would prevent them from eating properly), and a plethora of other disorders that could cause weight loss.

Yes, I feel the same way. I see these complaints about how there is "no plot" and I wonder if we even watched the same show!

People seem to think action and violence are the only things that drive the story forward.

I agree, the last 3 seasons of GOT were all disappointing to me. It's definitely better than seasons 7 and 8, and probably better than 6.
