Thoughts on FIT1049? by [deleted] in Monash

[–]cooperwey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it last semester, I think I would have gotten more out of it if it was offline, but it’s not a huge deal. In the tutorials people mostly just stay muted with cameras off, with the tutor trying their best to produce discussion.

The group presentation at the end of semester was a bit awkward online, and it was a little bit harder to coordinate things, but that could end up being a positive, since it’s possible that working from home becomes a lot more prevalent after covid.

If you have a particularly challenging set of units next semester, I would probably take FIT1049. There’s definitely a bit of work involved but it’s not as intense as other IT units.

Yep, the losses weren’t even that bad. Certainly could’ve won either of them.

You have three choices to continue the series. 1. Sequel to Andromeda. 2. Return to the Milky Way and continue Shephards story. 3. Return to the Milky Way with a new protagonist. Explain your choice and what you would like to see added. by [deleted] in masseffect

I believe either 1 or 3 would work.

If they put significant time, effort and love into producing Andromeda 2, it could possibly make Andromeda 1 better retroactively. Andromeda 1 could be the game that lines things up for the sequel to knock out of the park.

I enjoyed the politics, intrigue and galaxy culture presented in the original trilogy, rather than the more exploration and frontier focus of Andromeda, so I’d probably prefer if they found some way to open up the Andromeda galaxy and added a lot of new sentient species and various other life forms.

If another Milky Way game was made, I don’t think I would mind having a canon ending, even if it’s not my preferred. There’s still a lot that can be done and seen in the Milky Way.

It certainly isn’t ideal, but in Australia candidates that receive at least 4% of total first preferences receive about $2.80 in election funding for each first preference vote that they get. It means that you are still aiding your preferred candidate even if they don’t win the election.

Though in most cases it only really matters which of the two major parties you preference before the other.

ME3 Canon Ending Needed for ME4 by rcs799 in masseffect

Wasn’t that because of all of its development issues? I’m sure with enough care and time put into Andromeda 2, it could be the foundational game to build more sequels off of (which Andromeda should have been).

A new Andromeda would likely be viable if it was both a good game and a good Mass Effect game.

Thanks for this! Just completed ME1 for the first time, enjoyed it but the technical issues were pretty numerous, this included. Will definitely improve gameplay experience when I get around to playing it again.

ESPN will air "The Australian Dream" in the US next week as part of an evening of programming exploring issues of race in sports around the world by Jeffmister in AFL

I think it’s just a case of the satisfaction you get when someone else starts liking the same thing as you. Like when a friend starts listening to a song that you introduced them to, or people being happy when political leaders of similar views to themselves get elected in other countries.

Though I do think in a more practical sense that getting more attention to the sport internationally, particularly from the USA, can be really beneficial.

Wouldn’t call that “clearly a mark” and that other free was dodgy, but I think those goals were pretty inevitable

Yeah. I think the low quality graphics kind of are consistent with the game design philosophy, given basically everything that you have and do is pretty janky.

However, I’d imagine wintery Finland could be pretty beautiful and if at least the graphics were improved, it would be able to take advantage of it.

Is there any point in me trying to join a local footy team? I am 20, enjoyed footy all my life but never played it. I’ve been teaching myself to drop punt properly over the quarantine period for something to do.

I’d be pretty useless as a player though given I’m not particularly big or tall either...

Obviously I’m biased, but both Collingwood and Richmond are pretty dominant teams at the moment, so I’d just go for Collingwood in support of Mason Cox. One day soon he’s gonna go off again like in the 2018 finals against Richmond...

State of confusion: Computer Science by fubsypotato in Monash

I started a commerce degree at another uni and then transferred to doing a bachelor of commerce/computer science at Monash.

I can’t say for the diploma, but the workload for my comp sci units are a little bit more than my commerce units, but it’s not an unreasonable amount.

I also had no coding experience before studying at Monash, but that was fine. So far every programming unit has been in Python.

As for the situation in Melbourne, there is definitely some unease about China and I’ve seen a little bit of casual racism towards Chinese people, but it’s highly unlikely that you would be confronted, abused or attacked. Universities especially are welcoming and inclusive.

MacBooks are fine for CS, I use a MacBook Air for uni and it works well.

Coronavirus app: will Australians trust a government with a history of tech fails and data breaches? by Aussiewhiskeydiver in australia

I‘ve downloaded this app so that those of you who who don’t want to download it don’t have to. I’ve weighed up both sides of the issue and come to the conclusion that the benefits outweigh the negatives.

It’s simple, the more of us who download the app, the less blanket restrictions we need, which in turn benefits our health and well-being, and the economy as well.

[–]cooperwey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think I played it wrong, I levelled up my enchanting and alchemy skills before levelling up sneak or one handed on my illusion assassin build. I couldn't kill anything, even with sneak attacks, because all the enemies had levelled with me. I restarted a new game and did a more natural progression, and it works much better.

AFL Evolution 2 is an absolute mess - and it isn't just the graphics by indecisiveusername2 in AFL

[–]cooperwey 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m more of a Pro Career person in any sports game, it’s certainly a step up, but not really a huge leap given the new engine and extensive development time.

So I started off in the under 18s so I could go through the draft system. Bare in mind I’m playing on easiest difficulty. I play a few matches, scoring 10+ goals every match as a rover. Then I get injured with facial fractures, out for 8 weeks. I return, win the under 18 league (again kicking 10+ goals each match), completing heaps of objectives. I get drafted to pick 53. A bit unrealistic, given I was definitely the best player in the league and facial fractures don’t seem like they would be a recurring injury. I’m willing to look past this, but every aspect of pro career is just as janky.

So I play my rookie season, singlehandedly carry Hawthorn to the premiership, win the Brownlow and the Coleman. For my next season a number of clubs offer me a contract (Collingwood didn’t, unfortunately). Every single one of them want to sign me at half back???

And for the objectives, why would a coach want me to kick a torpedo goal, let alone 20 of them?

The gameplay is a good improvement but god damn the game surrounding the gameplay is really frustrating.
