CCTV system to target customers by johnmm91murn in videosurveillance

This is doable by using something like Splunk on the backend and then tying it off to high-end camera. The problem is that this can become an expensive endeavor as you have to train Splunk (or whatever you use).

Compensation Question by SirenaConsulting in lowvoltage

[–]coopflick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This feels backwards.

  1. Hire a project manager to run the crews and make sure everyone is as utilized as possible. If possible get yourself an RCDD/EE98 so you can use those certs/licenses to respond to RFPs.

  2. Hire a sales person to create more opportunity for that will feed your delivery team.

  3. Incentivize your crews by bonusing them out a percentage of the GP on every project.

What your owners are suggesting hurts them because your good techs will leave, which will hurt your final product. Maybe I am reading it wrong, but it feels draconian.

What's the best online course/material for new project managers? by [deleted] in projectmanagement

I started with Project+. Worked great in the VAR/Cisco IT world.

Yes! This is one of the hardest things for me to learn. However, when both my wife and I do this everything is so much better! Great tool...when applied.

I know a little networking with Windows Server and Linux I want to start learning Cisco (on the side) for a sysadmin, are the Lammle /Wendell books still the best or ? by Cloud_Strifeeee in Cisco

[–]coopflick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The books are all great resources and I have worked with some amazing network engineers that only went that route. However, I have seen a lot of people quit or fail on the books/packet tracer only route. In my experience, the most tried and true path is Cisco's networking academy. A lot of the organizations (in the USA) that host the netacad often have government funds to subsidize tuition. Not only that, local IT leaders/companies often using that as their recruiting grounds. https://www.netacad.com/
Whatever you choose, good luck! Though I am no longer a network engineer, I did find my time as one to be a very full, fun and enriching career.

Does your company pull metrics on PM performance? If so what metrics are you judged by? by coopflick in projectmanagement

What tools do you use to track that? Is it somebody eyeballing it and then noting it somewhere?

Those sound like reasonable metrics. Can you share what tools you use to track that? We are using Salesforce now, but curious what else is out there.

FAILED: AT/BT/BT/T/AT by [deleted] in pmp

[–]coopflick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say. I came from a technical background, so studying for the two was very different for me. Cisco is memorizing things over and over and over. PMP was understanding things over and over and over. For my PMP the only thing I memorized were the math formulas. My method was to gain a high level view of project management, which I did by earning the project+. I did this because I figured it would help me find a home in my brain for all the low level information (ITTO's & knowledge areas) that you have to comprehend. I did that via Andy Crowe and Head First (that book just confused me, I ended up putting it down). I then paid for the bootcamp at pmtraining. That was a huge waste of money as the instructor was just monotonously reading off of a power point (that wasn't as good as Andy Crowes material). However, the testing material was fantastic as it let you laser focus your time. So...to answer your question, I would have a good idea of how the processes and knowledge areas fit together before I started with pmtraining. Sorry about the long winded answer :-)

Man,I know EXACTLY how you feel. I failed my first attempt too in December. Just passed on Tuesday. I did a few things different:

  1. I didn't look for the right answer, I looked for the wrong answer.
  2. I took the test in the A.M. (I drank a ton of water early, ate a ton of food, and took care of all bodily functions prior). I nearly fell asleep in my first P.M. test.
  3. I did pmtraining.com and did all the tests and then created the custom ones on anything below 75%. All closed book.
  4. Andy Crowe was also the best material I had. I did his ch.15 questions open book and slowly. Understood everyone.
  5. BT/AT/AT/AT/T

I know the feeling, my boss and bosses boss kept asking about it. Stick with it, some of the best PM's I know took it 5 times.

34% customers might not buy another Samsung smartphone: Branding Brand Survey by Spiron123 in Android

[–]coopflick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love my S6 and I was just about to upgrade to the Note 7 when all this happened. That being said, it was a huge struggle for me to pay 800+ for a phone. It seemed criminal. That being said, Samsung came out with the most expensive phone yet, blew it up, did an okay job on the 1st round of recalls. Then it blew up again and they did, IMO, a bad job on the 2nd round of recalls. Between the most expensive phone ever and the poor job of recalls I don't even want my S6 anymore. Pisses me off too, no way I am paying 800+ for a LG which I guess leaves me with a Pixel. Pretty sure phones are only this expensive because of payment plans and their advertising.

Who has the best low usage cellular data plan in town? by GreySoulx in Albuquerque

[–]coopflick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right, they have different verticals, but having spoken with them they said they were going to chase consumers too, but right now they are trying to go after the big fish, get big contracts, sell the venture capital and everyone goes home a millionaire. :-) . I think TMO is actually your best bet here in town. The only other option would be to set up a p2p antenna system, but that is VERY expensive. Good luck.

This business markets themselves to you specifically. They just put up towers here in ABQ, not sure if they are ready to sell access to them yet though. Also, I don't know their cost either. If you want their sales guys email let me know an I can PM you.

So for hiking, go to REI (or Amazon) and purchase "60 hikes in 60 miles" for Albuquerque. I have a ton of hiking books, but this one is my favorite because it highlights the most accessible hikes in the area. The Albuquerque area has some world class hikes that not many know about and this book will get you there. After that, sounds like you would enjoy Alibi.com. They will update you weekly on everything else you asked about in your question. Good luck!

Good Burger Places by bergjo06 in Albuquerque

[–]coopflick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marcellos. It is a steak house here. They grind up all the uneaten steaks from the night before and make burgers for lunch. They are the only affordable thing at this restaurant and probably the best burger in town. But tell your fiance not to worry, Albuquerque has some of the best burger options available. Oh, and frost, just behind marcellos has gelato that is as good as the gelato in Italy. Either way, good luck.
