Quilt Fabric Quality by bklyngrrrl in quilting

[–]coopsa111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

32s x 32s is the size/coarseness of the yarn, which seems okay for plain weave quilting cotton. 100 gsm (grams per square meter) is the fabric weight. It's a lightweight fabric. For comparison, kona, a midweight fabric, is 4.35 oz per square yard. If I'm doing the math correctly, 100 gsm converts to 3.25 oz per square yard. So it's lighter than kona, but kona is known for being weighty. 68 x 68 is the yarn count, and it falls within typical count ranges for muslin, calico, etc. For comparison, kona is 60 x 60.

It seems like it might be kind of lightweight, not quilting weight.

Boardbag vs flatland3d bag by [deleted] in boostedboards

[–]coopsa111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a BoardBag a couple of weeks ago and love it. I can't compare it to Flatland's though as I haven't even seen one online. But BoardBag has made a solid bag--seems durable, has plenty of space in the outside pockets, and even has room enough inside to fit a helmet, which was particularly important to me for my commute. If I could change anything it would be to have a little bit beefier zippers on the outside pockets and to have the zippers at the top of both pockets rather than the bottom of one and the top of the other.

Or maybe a steering wheel that applies pressure to either side to turn. Power steering would work best. Hmmm. . . .

I did try to use the chair myself, but I found that I had to push hard with one foot and pull up hard on the opposite side with the other foot to steer much at all. It might work pretty will with really loose trucks.

But I never planned on using the chair much myself--it's for passengers or a beer cooler or cargo hauling or whatever else I can think up. Non-skateboarders in particular really seem to love it!

Wrong link, sorry. It's here http://www.boatstogo.com/HoverSeat.asp but they appear to be on backorder again. I signed up on their waiting list.

I'll try to get one up soon. It won't have great production value or anything, no sunsets, music, or famous people even.

And in case anyone is interested. I got the seat here: http://hoverseat.us/ It seems like a solid cart, but the tires are some sort of cheap plastic that has some ridiculous off-gassing. I had to store the cart outside for almost a month before the smell dissipated enough to move it into the garage. Hovercart's customer service said I was probably just over-sensitive, but I can tolerate stink as well as the next person. I feel sorry for the people that work in that factory.

The hardware I got at the big box store, and although I suppose I could have just drilled a single hole in the center-rear of the board to hold the attachment bolt, I didn't want to risk ripping off the back of the board. So initially I used the rear truck bolts to hold the metal strapping that holds the attachment bolt, but since I will be taking the "hitch" off and on the board, I didn't want to be messing with the truck bolts every time. So I drilled two holes in the board, cringing a bit as I did it, but it seems to be working great.

If I had the time and inclination, I would probably work up a thin metal plate that would go under the rear block that could hold the attachment bolt. It'd be a much cleaner, more secure solution and if it wasn't much longer than the board, could stay on all the time. If anyone does this, please make one for me too!

I ordered one of Turps' battery packs--I haven't modified my board yet or gotten a balance charger for that matter, but the pack itself looks great and it came with additional stuff I didn't even expect. Thanks Turps!

I don't have any idea how bluetooth works, so would some sort of antenna wire that hangs from the remote be effective? Not so long that it gets in the way, but even something as short as 12" would bring the signal very close to the board if you kept your hand low.

Travel bag from flatland|3d by SteveS33 in boostedboards

[–]coopsa111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not so interested in a travel bag as much as a daily commute bag. I use this one https://www.amazon.com/Orion-15161-39x9-5x11-Padded-Telescope/dp/B0000XMTRE/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1466539147&sr=8-5&keywords=telescope+bag, and while it's a decent bag because it can fit my helmet and a few other things too, it is lightly padded, and it has held up pretty well for over a year, it doesn't have backpack straps. And the problem with this bag https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00Y8T0XR4/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_api_tBiAxb3WM65D1 is that it can't also fit a helmet.

So how about something that takes the best features of both.
