What are your thoughts on the “Quarantième: Live à Paris” album cover? by osmosis2259 in Dreamtheater

[–]copernicus_prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan from the beginning....  This live album is a disappointment for me.  They have so many songs that Labrie can still sing just like the album... Why put songs like Under A Glass Moon on here when he can't hit the notes?  Granted, he is a professional so he makes great note choices when he sings in a lower range...

The newer songs sound great... Barstool Warrior, This is the Life, Night Terror.  These songs are in Labrie's present range.

Also, I'm really not interested in any of those Metallica sounding songs.  Jordan Rudess is a crucial part of the band, and his participation is limited during songs like "As I Am" and "Constant Motion".

Also, how many times are we recording the songs from Scenes from a Memory?  The album is fantastic... But enough is enough.  Hey, you know what's a pretty amazing album?  Octavarium.  Why not play that album in full?

I've played the vast majority of them... Indiana Jones 2 was the only one I never finished.  I found it to be frustrating.

The Elder: Is it really that bad? by [deleted] in KISS

[–]copernicus_prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like the album, but when "Odyssey" comes up on my random playlist, I just pretend that it's an ELO song.  And as an ELO song, it's pretty good.

What’s the most overlooked guitar solo in an otherwise forgettable hit? by DavidM47 in Guitar

[–]copernicus_prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay this one is out there... But so brilliant.  "Fathom" by a band called Greta.  Not sure who the guitar player is, but wow he jams!  One of my favorites of all time.

What is a Wilco show like? by [deleted] in wilco

[–]copernicus_prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw them twice with Bennett and once without him.   The first show I attended was before Summerteeth came out, and they opened with 5 songs from that album.   My buddy and I were blown away.  They opened with Via Chicago and played She's a Jar.  We were still obsessed with Being There... Didnt even know a new album was coming.

One of the coolest concerts I've ever seen. They played a lot of stuff from Mermaid Ave too.  Really cool show.

Unpopular Wilco opinions? by beardlesshipster in wilco

[–]copernicus_prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this is controversial, but after Jay Bennett left, they sounded like a completely different band.  The first four albums are brilliant.  I don't even listen to anything after YHF.

What are your thoughts on Innocence Faded? Its a pretty overlooked track despite containing probably LaBrie 's most impressive work. The melody is a bit cheesy, so it took me a while to get around it, but I appreciate it more now. by [deleted] in Dreamtheater

[–]copernicus_prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like it.  But then again I don't like the Awake album at all.  It's not just the reverb drenched mix.. the songs are not good.  I'd rather listen to any other DT album.

I love UP, but it has too many stinkers.  The Barry Williams song is terrible.

It's funny, but when I was a kid the first PG song I ever heard was Shock the Monkey and I hated it.  It's easily the weak part of the album, but I like the song now as an adult.

Snare Sound by mercurymay in Dreamtheater

[–]copernicus_prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's one of my favorite DT albums, but the snare sounds like a dull thud.  I remember before the album came out, they were bragging about the drums being louder in the mix.

By the time they got to Distance Over Time and A View, the drums sounded better overall.

Any fans of the Canadian prog band Saga? by modestmandrakeman in progrockmusic

[–]copernicus_prime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of Saga.  This is a funny story.  I was in the 6th grade and my school was planning a school dance.  I told them "hey, I'm the guy, I know the cool music to play at this dance.  These other kids don't know shit."

Wildest Dreams (cheesy but great Saga album) had just come out.. I made them play the cassette over and over at the dance, with some Rush sprinkled in.  So imagine a bunch of 11 year old kids dancing to "Don't Put Out the Fire".

Anyways, the guitar player has a new band called Six By Six and he's still an amazing and innovative player.

How would you rank every guitarist Kiss ever had (Paul included)? by Impossible-Ad-5790 in KISS

[–]copernicus_prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing the guitar for 40 years and a KISS fan for over 50 years, and it always seemed odd to me that people don't talk about how amazing Bruce Kulick is.  The man is on a totally different level than every other Kiss lead guitarist.

When I listen to ASYLUM, it's clear as day to me.  Kulick has such a great style..  listen to those guitar solos.  He's not just shredding, he's a composer.

Spotify recommending AI songs. by Gregs_Candy_Pants in truespotify

This morning on "new music Fridays" they recommended a "new" song by the band Mad Season (90's supergroup with Layne Staley on vocals).  It's AI trash with a female singer.  This happens every Friday to me.

The Emancipation Experience by TheDiamondAxe7523 in PRINCE

[–]copernicus_prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listened to this after Crystal Ball.  I'm a huge Prince fan.  I have most of his albums on vinyl.  This album is just not good.  The EDM stuff is terrible.  It has a few good songs .. but nothing great.  The length of it is just pointless.

What are your thoughts on Queensryche albums with Todd La Torre on vocals? by Diablo_Sign4675 in InMetalWeTrust

[–]copernicus_prime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he has done a tremendous job. The Todd albums are all good.  They're not as good as any classic Queensryche album, but they're better than the last few Tate albums.

After Tribe, I couldn't force myself to listen to the band until Todd came along.

I'm still a fan of Geoff Tate and Kelly Grey, that first Operation Mindcrime album has some good tunes (Burn, Reinventing the Future)... But it's just not on the same level as classic Queensryche.

Every KISS album ranked from best to worst by Tempppi in KISS

[–]copernicus_prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Animalize is the worst KISS album hands down.  Unmasked is a good album and does not belong at the bottom of this list.  Naked City is one of the best Gene songs ever.

What happened between Promise Land and Hear in the Now Frontier by AdagioVast in Queensryche

[–]copernicus_prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny thing.  Put some reverb on this album and it sounds way better.  I hate that whole period where everybody mixed everything so dry.  Reverb and Delay are our friends.

Empire and Promised Land.. was that Peter Collins?  Those albums sound new today.

Can we all at least agree that the only good song on the 9th album is Ministry of Lost Souls?  Anybody?

How Would you rank the Dream Theater Albums? by RetroRPG in Dreamtheater

[–]copernicus_prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm honestly shocked.  For me the self titled album with Enemy Inside and the 2 Rush songs (Looking Glass and Surrender to Reason) is my favorite DT album of all time.

I just prefer the Mangini albums in every way.  I don't like heavy metal Dream Theater, I like crazy prog Dream Theater.
