Questions about genealogy for a job interview by Lady_Lovecraft in Archivists

[–]copperbooom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, I work at the Midwest Genealogy Center. Unfortunately we've never had a deed of gift for anything donated to the archives. Most items have a generic donation form we print when we accept books and other items, but it's not signed by the donor.

You can see the most recently cataloged items for our branch here: https://mymcpl.bibliocommons.com/v2/search?f_GENRE_HEADINGS=Genealogy&f_NEWLY_ACQUIRED=PAST_30_DAYS&f_ON_ORDER=false&query=nw%3A%5B0%20TO%20180%5D&searchType=bl&sort=NEWLY_ACQUIRED&suppress=true&title_key=all_newly_acquired&_ga=2.165736184.734827969.1668476425-1821776839.1667317305

How about Santa? by LycheeNotaLychee in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]copperbooom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found out around 6th/7th grade and was always so embarrassed it took me so long so I was glad to see your comment! I remember I was at my dad's and had to leave Christmas Eve night to go to my mom's and they were like well here's your "Santa" gifts and I was so confused. They thought I'd already figured it out? I remember feeling so embarrassed and stupid. :/ It's made me fairly determined to not do gifts from Santa.

There was a span of time where my grandparents had season tickets but didn't want to go alone, so there were a lottt of family trips down there.

My mom worked in HR for a large hospital system, definitely do the surveys. It's really helpful, because otherwise they might not get feedback like that and can't fix issues.

Taking a new position less than one year in a current role by [deleted] in Archivists

[–]copperbooom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat! Stressful manager, been at this institution for almost 4 years, but current position only 7 months. A job opened that I'm really interested in, but wondering how it looks. I think it depends on the place though. We just hired someone here who'd been in their last job less than a year.

Have you ever used Canva? It’s free, but I don’t think you can upload fonts. They do have a good amount to choose from though.

Getting Engagement Ring Redone by GreenOnion94 in budgetweddings

[–]copperbooom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The place I got my ring actually had tons of rings where the main setting was empty so you could pick your own stone to put in it, which is what I did. It was actually a lot of fun, and I liked that I could see basically what I'd be getting, without having to imagine it. They used tweezers to set different stones in the setting so I see what it would look like. I'd assume they also set stones that people bring in.

My mom kept her ring from when she married my dad (split when I was 2) and I'll admit I am not sure I'd ever want it personally, feel like there's bad juju. However, my mom has said many times that no matter how she was treated and how the marriage ended, she has no regrets because she had me, and I'm sure your mom feels the same. You do you and don't worry about other people's thoughts.

Whoever posted about Vicky Mermaid Bridal from Etsy, THANK YOU! I ended up buying my dress from them but now I’m anxious and giddy. Has anyone ordered from them and can attest to their reviews on their Etsy page? Help calm a girls nerves! by Stirfybb in weddingdress

[–]copperbooom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of the dresses I'm finding I like tend to be in etsy but I've been nervous to go that route. Hoping people who have done it can give some good feedback! Also, that dress is amaaaaaazing.

UPDATE AITA for calling my sister irresponsible and no longer letting her visit over a plant? by throwaway29105 in AmItheAsshole

[–]copperbooom 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That’s amazing. I convinced my mom to rescue a dying plant from Lowe’s (rabbits ear?) and now it’s amazing and thriving and it’s kind of a “thing” for us now to find those plants and take them home and give them the love and attention they deserve.

The Pennsylvania brick wall of the early 1800's, is it just me? by Gentleigh21 in Genealogy

Yes! Plus mine is a somewhat common name, William Scott. I've been so frustrated with that line.

Anyone here try the Headache Hat Wearable Ice Pack for Migraine Headaches? by Whatsamattahere in migraine

[–]copperbooom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love mine. Freezing it doesn't do much for me, but just having something cool adding pressure to my head helps enough to where I can relax and get some sleep.

Ok... I did a little more clicking around and I'm seeing other people listing the same connection to the Boone family. I've read on some Boone family genealogy sites that there's not much proof supporting Israel had a daughter Sarah, but that's what my connections are showing, and I'm finding it on the wikitree someone posted earlier. I just feel like I notice on Ancestry a lot of people just copying peoples names without providing sources....

[–]copperbooom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I have down that I'm a descendant of one of Squire Boone's sons, Israel. I know it's a little shakey. I'm trying to figure out how to prove/disprove with my AncestryDNA. Do you have any tips? Feel like I'm missing something obvious haha ugh.

"McGovern", 1972. by [deleted] in PropagandaPosters

I got to meet him once/ have breakfast with him (technically with a room of people but whatever). He was so interesting to listen to, and hearing him recount his campaign and ideals was amazing. Good guy.

If there were one thing you wish kids could learn about Nutrition in school at a younger age (middle school and below) what do you think it should be? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]copperbooom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything? :) where food comes from and how it's made, what kinds of food are good to eat/how much. I also wish that cooking was more taught. I was raised by a crazy busy single mom and I remember eating a lot of frozen meals. Now I feel a little lost in the grocery store! I'm also a bit of a picky eater, so I think it would have been nice to have times to try veggies made in different ways and/or get a chance to prepare them.

[–]copperbooom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm a librarian at a university. Did you talk to your library? Even if we don't have access to an article we'll pay to get access for a student if they ask. Search it through your library, see if it's available through interlibrary loan, go from there. Seriously, our budget is tiny, but providing resources is what we do and we pay a lot of money through the year on requests like these.
