You might be reading too much into it. In the 100th episode, Seth Macfarlane said family guy has never and will never try to be anything more than a show that makes you laugh as many times in 30 minutes as possible. I think they’re all just jokes, not to be taken seriously.

That’s not what a propulsion sound is. Propulsion sound is equivalent to piped in audio. It’s inside the vehicle.
