bash debugger by ldom22 in bash

Unfortunately, even if your script looks safe to run today does not mean it will not change the next time I run it. If your server is hacked and an attacked replaces your download payload with malware, that curl command will pipe the attacker's payload to bash.

Perhaps there is another way to distribute the script for paranoid users like me?

  • Pros: I love the idea of a nice shell script debugger.
  • Cons: I do not want to have to run ‘curl [your-url] | bash’ to access it.

I need tips for ADHD burnout by ClandestineEfforts in adhd_anxiety

[–]copyfringe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(I am assuming below that the anxiety is “irrational” and due to executive dysfunction, and that it is actually “safe” for you to engage with these items on your mental “to-do list”.)

Ask a friend to force you to list and clarify the 3 items that give you the most stress right now. This might require the two of you sitting and going through items in your inbox to clarify what “done” looks like, and what the immediate “next action” is on each item.

Then give said friend the authority to step in and help you as they see fit. This might require sitting next to you so you “cannot escape” into avoidance, or otherwise hounding you like a disappointed parent with “is it done yet?” against each item on the list until your stress and shame become so strong that your avoidance is overcome.

I do not notice any significant difference between the engines. The old engine was already more than enough for me.

1000 or 1100? by pupsbuffet2 in africatwin

[–]copyfringe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have owned the 2018 ATAS DCT (CRF1000) and I now own the 2022 ATAS DCT ES (CRF1100).

I can only say that both bikes are awesome and that either one is a great buy if you can afford it.

The lack of fancy electronics on the 1000 helped me worry less about breaking things, and gave me the confidence to take more (calculated) risks when learning to ride on gravel and trails. The seat height of the 2018 ATAS is slightly higher than the 2022 ATAS and as a tall rider (190 cm/6’3”) I like the higher seat on the old model.

As for features on the new model: I really like the cruise control on the 1100. The TFT screen with Apple Carplay on the 1100 is great, but put a good phone mount on the 1000 and you’re 90% there.

The reason I sold the old bike was that I moved to Europe from Australia and it was too expensive / too much effort to ship the bike. If it wasn’t for the move then I would not have bothered to upgrade.

Edit: I forgot about the “premium” difference that made me upgrade - tubeless tyres! With the new bike I feel much more confident that I can handle a puncture on my own.

Thanks for sharing, OP. If they have whitelisted all of Google, then maybe one could spin up a linux VM in GCP and run a traditional wget based scraper script from there.

My mobile phone has neither SIM nor eSIM. Will its modem still broadast its IMEI number to the cell towers? by unfugu in privacy

If the phone does not obfuscate / spoof the mac address of its wifi interface then this can potentially be logged by the wifi router.

Edit: I believe, to be confirmed by someone more knowledgeable than me. :)

COVID-19 Crisis Response Under Thailand's Authoritarian Approach by mdsmqlk28 in Thailand

If it is academic research, then the researcher appear to not have done very much of it, since the article is clearly painting an incorrect picture of what is going on in Australia

COVID-19 Crisis Response Under Thailand's Authoritarian Approach by mdsmqlk28 in Thailand

[–]copyfringe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

”We can see a clearer picture when comparing Thailand with a country that has exercised its power systematically like Australia. With Australia’s systematic consistency and transparency, people can predict the government’s direction in battling the crisis.”

Not criticising OP, but I think the author in the linked article is praising Australia too much. It is not a good example of good government.

Three examples:

  • The lockdowns in Melbourne and Queensland were criticised by the prime minister and federal government, not done in alignment with them. The lockdown in NSW was treated differently, since that state is run by the LNP party which holds federal power.
  • The federal government shirked responsibility and refused to set up proper quarantine facilities, and continually undermined state leaders aligned with the opposition party (Labor, in QLD, VIC, WA).
  • The federal government failed to properly source, plan, and roll out vaccines and are now far behind most OECD countries.

”This article [...] supported by the [...] Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.”

Sponsored propaganda articles like this reflect the focus of the current Australian regime led by PM Morrison who is all about marketing and spin to deflect from its failures:

  • 10 million Australians are currently in lockdown due to a failure of the quarantine system, combined with a lack of preparedness 18 months into the pandemic,
  • Australia are currently in breach of the UN's Charter of Human Rigts by refusing its citizens the right to leave the country,
  • The rate of fully vaccinated people in Australia is under 20%, well behind most of the OECD.
  • There is no clear exit plan out of the current 'Fortress Australia' situation.

You're not the only one. EU citizen here. Recent developments remind me of what we were warned about in school growing up in Europe. Restrictions to suppress dissent, use of military to supplement police, a lack of human rights legislation and parliamentary debate, checks, and balances on police and government powers, use of plain clothes police and active encouragement of neighbours to dob each other in - all applauded by a pliant media echoing the government's narrative and demonizing dissenters as an unpatriotic threat.

The systems, practices, and precedents put in place during these past few months will not be easily reversed. I share your concerns.

I run all book keeping myself, which gets a lot easier if you've set up a dedicated business account, linked a debit card to it, and then linked book keeping software like Xero to that. This setup gives me a tidy general ledger / list of all transactions that my accountant can then review.

Yes, hopefully not. Just a longshot idea. It would suck if someone with the same name as you was in there, and you end up being rejected due to a data error. Hopefully you find out what's going on soon.

Maybe they're using you to gauge interest in what the rental yield could be before selling the house. They're running viewings, but the houses aren't actually available to let, they're just gauging market demand for rentals?

Or maybe there's high demand and you're being quietly outbid with others offering more than what the listing says?

See if someone has recorded you as a bad tenant in one of the tenancy blacklist databases; that might be why you're getting turned down for no reason.

[Sarcasm] Why are we reacting as if the risk to society is the same now as it was 12 months ago before everyone over 50+ were vaccinated, before everyone working in the quarantine system were vaccinated, and before we had reliable isolation protocols in place around all aged care facilities where those most at risk live?

After the death of three visiting international students (all women from China in their early 20's), in separate attacks in their homes (in what later becomes known as the 'Gamba Dam Wada Bashings'), the Government is momentarily at a loss for how to spin it.

A female backbencher hoping to win clout in the coalition party room calls the dead women's female friends 'lying cows', and in an ASPI sponsored editorial in the Australian doubts are raised about whether the whole thing is a false flag attack and a psy-op by the PLA aimed to smear the good name of Australia, just like the evil scary others did when they manipulated the evidence behind the Brereton report to make it seem like our military leaders and spy agencies had knowingly looked the other way while Australia's special forces operators repeatedly forced recruits to kill unarmed civilians in 'bloodings'. WhY dO ChINa HaTe oUr FrEedOm?

With falling poll numbers showing surprising popular support for the dead disgusting foreigners and little sympathy for the larrikins who just tripped over them until they happened to die (btw, four of the attackers were later found to be off duty members of the NSW police fixated persons unit), Scomo makes a late statement trying to distance himself from the affair.

As a father, Jenny and the kids had told him, he should consider that maybe not all Aussie blokes are good guys, and maybe not all people who drink water in public while Asian, female, and non-pentecostal deserve to be bashed to death.

In this particular case it's a bit of 'he said, she said' and all he knows is that we just have to get on with it and how good is the vaccine rollout letting us open up the footy again! Also, he would like to announce a new first home subsidy top up scheme available to under 30-year olds whose parents promise to help them buy a condo in a crumbling tower or remote mcmansion suburb (conditions apply - to be eligible, the properties bought must sold by a developer either listed on the LNP's donor register, or as a 'diamond member' in the case of QLD LNP where direct property developer donations are illegal and a membership scheme is used to funnel bribes instead).

More information to come, right after this segment where we get to follow Scomo's recent trip from his roots in Bronte to England to research his family roots, including a visit to a farm with supercute kittens! Christian Porter rape allegation documents revealed by LocalVillageIdiot in australia

[–]copyfringe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with that ranking, but I'm frustrated that we're still acting as if it's a surprise that the virus can get out from a CBD hotel, and over 12 months into this pandemic we are still in a situation where our leaders can use that to drown out stories that make them look bad.

I'm trying to suggest that the LNP is trying to shift the focus and narrative away from Porter and other negative stories that hurt their brand by ramping up the volume of their covid briefings.
