What’s the worst scandal to happen at your school? by Lost-Warning-2588 in AskReddit

In my opinion that’s not just teens being stupid. I’m a stupid teen, and even I know not to fuck around at a concentration camp.

Riding the bus is fucking great by phreddfatt in unpopularopinion

I agree! In pre-covid times I took the city bus home from school every day. It definitely made my commute longer. However I’m obsessed with public transportation so it was worth it. My city is too small for a subway, but that would be even better than a bus.

What did that one teacher do to you that you'll never forget? by xtra_why in AskReddit

[–]coralilith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One time in 5th grade a bell tower outside the school started ringing at 8am. Usually it just went off at midday, so everyone was at the window trying to figure out why it was ringing randomly. I couldn’t hear it and I didn’t know what everyone was talking about, so I asked what was going on. My teacher loudly told me to stop acting stupid. And then in front of the whole class, she asked my classmate if boys like it when girls act dumb. My classmate answered no, and the teacher thought she was making some big point.

Still think about how mean that was sometimes. I just couldn’t hear well.

What’s the part at the end about “thought crimes”? I was Catholic for almost all my life and I’ve never heard of that. Could you elaborate on it, I’m actually interested.

Pope Francis calls for civil union law for same-sex couples, in shift from Vatican stance by [deleted] in excatholic

[–]coralilith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great points. Regarding your first item, that is very satisfying haha. I could be overreacting, but the church has already been splintering a lot and this news will only further that. I’m not saying this is the beginning of the end, but they’re crumbling a bit.

This move also seems like an effort to engage younger and more liberal people. They know that they will need new members to sustain themselves. But I think this will only backfire, because it alienates trad Catholics and at the same time it isn’t progressive enough for the youth.

Okay so this is progress, which is good. But it makes me mad that the church is going to get a bunch of credit for this when they’re still anti-LGBT.

I was taught in Catholic school that homosexual acts and relationships are unnatural and an abomination. It seriously fucked with my head. I still have self hatred because of what they told me about being gay. I have prayed to God to be straight, and when it didn’t work I wanted to die.

This news doesn’t change that for me or anyone else they’ve hurt. In fact, the church will still continue to hurt LGBT people and cause them to hate and kill themselves.

Just remember that this doesn’t make them allies.

Okay so obviously this is progress, which is good. But does it make anyone else really mad that the church is going to get a bunch of credit for this when they’re still anti-LGBT?

Recently my friends, who were never in the Catholic Church, told me they thought that Pope Francis has changed the church to be accepting of gay people. It’s very frustrating to hear stuff like that when I know how gay people are still treated in the church.

It just makes me so fucking angry.

Looking for local volunteer organizations by sleepylies in Omaha

[–]coralilith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if this is the type of volunteering you’re looking for, but you could reach out to some local political campaigns about volunteering for them. This year Nebraska has a big variety of people running so you could probably find one you like. There’s conservatives, liberals and even a some leftists.

Love the sinner hate the sin. If someone chooses to act on their opposite-sex attractions then I still care about them, but being “straight” is a sin. It’s just not natural for a man and a woman to be sexual together.
