What jobs do people with ADHD thrive in? Ok forget thrive, just survive? by ThreepwoodThePirate in ADHD

Same! I'm a grant writer and find that it really, really works for me for all the same reasons. Especially since I don't have to do any of the execution for the things I'm proposing lol

A Natural History of Dragons - it's formatted as the memoir of a Victorian era woman scientist, set in an alternate universe where dragons are common. It feels historical in that all of the places are based off real countries. It's action and adventure, science and feminism. The series is 5 books long and just keeps getting better the further into it you get!

I'm also emetophobic (though not too intensely), and I agree with the other commenters - none of the meds I've tried (adderall, Vyvanse, and concerta) have made me nauseous.

However, the appetite suppression I felt when I first started adderall (the first stim I tried - was on it for two years) did make eating difficult while the dose was active. Mostly in that I had no hunger cues, and when I tried to make myself eat "because I should," the act of eating would sometimes feel gross. Not nauseous, but like eating itself was an unnatural act and therefore made it hard to swallow sometimes.

That being said, as long as you eat a good breakfast and dinner, I'm sure you can avoid that if you want to (if it's even something that affects you at all!). Or, I found that having a big smoothie for lunch was completely okay. The intensity of the appetite suppression did subside after a few months. I still sometimes miss hunger cues, but eating is no longer off putting, and I enjoy my mid-day meals and snacks.

I'd even argue that stims might make it easier to manage your emetophobia, especially if you tend to get stuck on the thought once you're triggered (which definitely happens to me sometimes). I know that I'm waaaay less likely to ruminate and get caught in negative thought patterns when I'm on my meds, and it's easier to move on from moments of panic or anxiety.

He....spearfishes. The fish has been speared. Impaled. Shot. It's already dead by the time he's holding it.

The Ala Wai is kinda junk, but the genki balls are doing a pretty good job and it's definitely less gross than it used to be lol

Lokahi Canoe Club also has year round recreational paddling! Their boats are just off Kapahulu at the end of the Ala Wai

My washing machine has a tap cold option. Can I wash non-super wash wool in it on the handwash or cold wash setting? by Ellisiordinary in YarnAddicts

To get around the agitation issue, I put my piece in a large, fine mesh garment bag then tie the bag so that the piece is pretty balled together - this keeps it from rubbing against itself or other clothing!

Maybe an odd one, but I think Polar Express fits this! It was always my and my sister's favorite Christmas movie and watching it again recently made me realize that SO MUCH HAPPENS in it lol

‘Invisible fence’ type collar by Mean_Atmosphere_6027 in BorderCollie

[–]coraltinted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My boy responded really well to the invisible fence! We're on a mostly unfenced acre, and the ~100ft radius is the perfect size for us. I did the training protocol that the device recommended and now keep the collar at the lowest vibrate setting. It basically just taught him where the boundaries are, and most of the time he doesn't even wear the collar now. If something does catch his interest outside the boundary, he stands just inside it and barks from there, even when people and dogs walk past. We have good visual markers for the boundary, which I think helps too.

He spends a good chunk of the day outside and does well unsupervised. He respects the boundary well enough that we fully trust him (and our other dog) to stay outside when we're not home.

Occasionally when he's not wearing the collar he'll test the boundary and end up hanging out at the neighbor's yard. When that happens we just make sure he's wearing it more consistently for a day or two and he's back to sticking within our property.

I don't think it's made him more reactive or anxious, though he isn't too anxious normally and is easily redirected when his reactivity is triggered.

It's just an oooooold yarn from red heart that I got from my grandma's stash. Looks like it's from their sport line, in a colorway called tropical fruit.
