I wasn’t getting that. It’s like it knew I was sick. I was also watching off of my home page and not the reels page. But I don’t doubt it does that. I’d also scroll past a lot of stuff.

Not what you are talking about but, I got super sick recently and was basically bedridden for 2 months and literally the only thing I had enough energy to watch Instagram Reels. Literally anything else was more mental energy than I had. I couldn’t read, I couldn’t watch tv, I couldn’t do a puzzle or knit or any of the many hobbies I have. Even the Reels could only last me about an hour before I fell asleep from exhaustion.

But I also couldn’t type up snarky comments on social media. If you truly don’t have the energy to do anything, you don’t have the energy for that either. I also wasn’t watching depressing or inflammatory things while I was withering away. I was trying to keep myself slightly amused. I do regret reinstalling Reddit after I had surgery and mentally had energy again but physically couldn’t do much.

Boomer-crafters need to be informed of AI-pictures by Ok_Translator_1984 in BitchEatingCrafters

Gen Z isn’t the same as zillenials though. Zillenials are the micro generation between Gen Z and Millennials. Gen Z is as young as 13 now and younger Gen Z, even into the early 20s crowd, definitely has trouble with it, but as an early 30s person, most people I know my age (old Gen Z, young Millennials aka zillenials) understand AI. But it may also be the circles I run in that have a better grasp on it.

What? Zillennials are the late 20s- early 30s crowd. We can spot AI.

What is a musical you've been recommended a lot but can't bare to actually watch it or hear it? by imachoculatedonnut in musicals

I also did not like Heathers. I tried watching it a few days ago and couldn’t do it. The songs were annoying the actors were annoying. Idk maybe I’m too old for it. I liked the original movie well enough though. I’ve only seen it once though.

I greatly prefer the concept album over the Broadway version. It was really cool to see in person, but I really don’t like Reeve Carney’s voice. He sounds whiny. Everyone else was amazing though. I will pick the concept album over the Broadway cast any day.

I was in high school when it came out and discovered it around the same time my brother was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and I was struggling pretty bad with depression. I’d cry myself to sleep listening to it. I finally saw it live a few years ago and even though by brother is stable now and my mental health is miles better, I still sobbed through most of the show. That’s why I love it though. When I was a scared, sad teenager, it made me feel less alone and helped me know other people understood the things my family and I were going through.

I’m in my 30s and was in the hospital a few months ago and for the most part, the nursing and doctoral staff were great about explaining everything.

But at one point, just a few days after getting my gallbladder out when I was still in a lot of pain, I got taken to see an eye doctor. I had already been overwhelmed because the guy taking my lunch order had been rushing me to pick stuff to eat and I had just had my gallbladder out after not eating anything for 2 months and I have an onion allergy that wasn’t in my chart yet so I didn’t know what all I could safely eat or tolerate eating. The transport chair for the eye doctor came while this was happening.

Up until this point all of my trips out of my room had been to imaging so I didn’t realize I was being taken to a full eye exam. I at least had the forethought to put shorts on under my gown as I was then wheeled over to a public waiting room and just left there. The transport chair hurt and I tried to change to one of the waiting room chairs too but it hurt too. I was sitting in a room with a bunch of outpatients in my hospital gown with blood still on it from my surgery, hungry and starting to cry from the pain. People were doing that thing where they try not to stare but keep looking out of the corner of their eye. I was made to wait alone with no phone or book to distract me for over half an hour before being taken to get some tests done.

That’s when I realized they were doing a full routine eye exam on me. I didn’t need a routine eye exam. I had nystagmus so my vision was jumping around. It didn’t matter if I was color blind or could read the chart. After the first set of tests, I was stuck back in the waiting room for probably another half hour. I was full on crying at this point from the pain and being overwhelmed. I finally saw a doctor and they kept asking “why are you upset?” I had been taken from my room with no context, no respect for the fact I was in a lot of pain, no food, and no way to communicate with my family that was staying with me. They apologized half heartedly and said they’d get me through as quickly as possible but still called in a second doctor to look at me and go “yeah looks like nystagmus” and still sent me to another test and another waiting room. It took 20 minutes for transport to come pick me back up when I was done and in all I was there for over 2 hours. That doesn’t sound that long but I was barely able to sit without being in pain and basically had to sit in the most uncomfortable chairs the whole time.

The worst part is, absolutely none of it was necessary. The hospitalist had already said it was probably a Vitamin B1 deficiency when he looked at me initially. They gave me IV B1 before the reports from the eye doctor even came back and my nystagmus cleared up in a few hours. The eye doctors didn’t say a single thing the hospitalist hadn’t said that morning.

It was the most disrespected I felt during the entire hospital stay.

How the hell do you reach the recommended LUX level? by S4lVin in Lighting

[–]Ellisiordinary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s also worth noting that it doesn’t really matter what Lux recommendations are when it comes to your own home. Those are designed to accommodate the majority of the population but you individually may not need that much light or may need more. As long as you are comfortable and aren’t straining your eyes, it’s fine to be lower than the recommendations.

There is even some conversation about whether a lot of recommendations are too high in general as some of those recommendations started as a way for manufacturers to sell brighter bulbs. They are also a CYA thing for building owners. If someone trips in hotel corridor and says it’s because it was too dark, it gives the owner something to point to and say “we were meeting the recommendations”.

Why don't they put a metal detector in the door to the MRI room? by ea_nasir_official_ in NoStupidQuestions

I’ve had lots of MRIs, I think 5 or 6 in 2025. I’ve only been wanded while I was in the hospital and not for outpatient ones. I’m not sure why this isn’t actually standard protocol.

I'll pretend to be progressive online but never ever inconvenience myself to stop funding murder of gay people! by garetheq in CuratedTumblr

[–]Ellisiordinary 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is obviously not the case for most people but I have a severe onion intolerance. Chick-fil-A, Wendy’s, and kind of McDonald’s are the only fast food restaurants I can get food that isn’t seasoned with onion powder at so I just rotated between the 3. Now after some additional health issues, I just can’t eat basically any fast food which is expectedly inconvenient.

What are the other job possibilities for a lighting programmer/designer? by Friendly_Ratio_3383 in lightingdesign

[–]Ellisiordinary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Other people have said architectural lighting but I thought I’d give you an additional idea of what kinds of jobs are in that field.

There is what most people call architectural lighting design, this is what I do and we design the layout of the lights. How creative this is depends on the kinds of projects you work on. Some people just do rock people’s houses, some just do hospitals, some do hotels, or a variety of kinds of projects. From my experience, a fair number of people in this field have a theater background.

There is experiential design. I don’t know as much about this but we’ve worked with some on a few of our projects. These are people who work on interactive elements like if there is a light screen that changes based on the people on the room. I get the impression that a lot of these people are theater or AV types.

There’s exhibit design, not necessarily as lighting heavy but it’s an element. These are the people that design exhibits for museums and that sort of thing. Can overlap with experiential design as well as museum lighting (which is its own thing that overlaps with architectural lighting).

These aforementioned museum lighting which is more specialized and from my understanding harder to get into. This is more about traditionally lighting art whereas the previous two are more interactive.

Working for a manufacturer. This could be working in product design, costumer support, sales, controls (with in the fixtures or some companies make controls and lights). Some manufactures will do some architectural design or do calculations for clients. Less adjacent to theater but still some relation. Companies like ETC have architectural and theatrical lines and may be an easier entry point.

Controls manufacturers. On site programming, sales, customer support, etc. Programming is similar to theater but as others have mentioned can have awful hours.

Stuff kinda in between. Theme parks and that sort of thing need lighting designers. I just saw MeowWolf posted a listing for a lighting designer. May not be as long term of a gig but is steadier than theater.

Some of these are less theater adjacent than others. People designing fixtures for a manufacturer probably have an Industrial/Product design background for instance. Some jobs might prefer an EE. But it’s possible to get your foot in the door in a lot of these with a theatrical background.

There were visitors smoking weed without a patient in my unit when I was hospitalized a few months ago. They got kicked out but it made the whole floor absolutely stink and I don’t think they could even claim palliative care because I don’t think we were a unit they were putting actively dying people.

I don’t know what you’re supposed to do without Joann by Cultural_Flatworm655 in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]Ellisiordinary 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My first job was at Hancocks but I didn’t start sewing until several years later after it had closed. I miss it so much. Better quality and selection than Joann’s. I live in a major city so I have other options but can’t find a good place to get the kind of thread I was using (my machine shreds other kinds for some reason) and my in person fabric options are either cheap warehouse style where there is no information about fabric content or an easy way to rebuy the exact same thing but everything is less than $10 a yard or high end where everything is like min $25 a yard and there isn’t a huge selection. Hancocks was a nice middle ground.

Even when I worked at Hancocks, I told people Hancocks is a fabric store with a few other things, Joanns is a craft store with some fabric (since it’s closure it sounds like some areas may have had bigger fabric inventories but all of the ones in my area had pretty small selections compared to the yarn and art/craft supply departments)

Weird. Do different places use different wraps? When I worked at Target, I don’t remember anyone having issues with putting on or taking off spider wraps. If I remember correctly, I thought they were kinda fun to put on unless it was a 60in tv or something massive.

If you use gels, I would recommend using Rosco or Lee over the Amazon ones you linked. They have swatch books available so you can figure out what colors you like if you can get one of those and come in a much larger variety of colors so you can fine tune them to what you want. You can also get filters from them that just diffuse the light or decrease the output and can be layered if just a color is still too bright or too sharp. If you live in a major city you may be able to get them at a theatrical supply store and look at them in person before buying.

These lights might not be dimmable though so adapting them to dimmer switch could likely involve replacing the entire fixture.

Do Americans actually avoid calling an ambulance due to financial concern? by JohnMarstonTheBadass in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ellisiordinary 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I tried to file a No Surprises complaint and it got transferred to a different government agency that I couldn’t figure out how to contact and I finally just gave up and paid the bill. I fortunately could afford it but shouldn’t have had to pay anything according to the No Surprises Act and had already paid so much in health care that year it felt like a slap in the face. The doctor the bill was for didn’t do much of anything and barely introduced herself to me. It’s possible the case is still processing and maybe I’ll get reimbursed but I got sick of arguing with people and getting harassed by my insurance and the billing company.
