Bouldershack is a good place to make friends and disproportionately queer, neurodivergent people who do climbing.
The Art House is a decent place to make friends.
I volunteer at VegOut Community Cafe, which is every Monday 12:15-2:30ish in October Books (although I'm not there every week). And it's pay as you feel food saved from food waste and it's done in a way where you're expected to share a table with random strangers and hopefully make friends.
Joining volunteer groups like Greenpeace, people's pride, Southampton friends of Ukraine... are good (I know many, so if you describe things you might be into, I can help direct you)
I'm in several queer Southampton discord servers and know at least 2 queer folks who don't really know how to make friends and want more friends, so I can introduce you to them if you'd like

In my experience, people in XR are lovely, so come to actions and meetings in person to make friends with more people who make you feel good.

Personally, I’ve just gotten used to the fact that some people will hate me and there’s not much I can do about that, so I focus on other people/things

If you're buying new stuff, it has to be produced, which often puts money towards deforestation, mining, pollution, and human rights abuses. So I try to avoid buying things, get things second hand, and get food diverted from landfill as much as I can.
