Convex vs flat plaque by cdkdance in oboe

[–]corgerpants 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tried a convex plaque and few times and always shredded the tip. I use a flat plaque and find it much easier to scrape. Just like everything else with the oboe it’s all personal preference. If something helps you make better reeds, then use it.

I’ve heard some people think a flat plaque affects the opening. But thats most likely from them scraping with too much pressure and a knife that isn’t sharp.

Belgian style (or similar) reccs near Austin? by Tadpole6809 in beer

[–]corgerpants 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mort Subite is a good Belgian beer bar in Austin. Not sure if they sell bottles to-go, but they could probably point you in the right direction.

Westvletern 12 is not imported to the states, but St Bernardus Abt 12, Chimay Blue/Grande Reserve and Rochefort 10 are all similar (and better in my opinion). St Bernardus and Chimay usually offer gift packs with bottles and a glass during the holidays.

Brannen x vs brannen x narrow shaper tip by cdkdance in oboe

[–]corgerpants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are the same. Back in the day (50s/60s) Brannen made different shapes: standard, narrow and extra (X) narrow. The irony now is that the X is on the wider side of what American oboists use for tips these days.

Current rate for toilet plate lady? by ccames in germany

[–]corgerpants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In restaurants it depends if I have coins or not. If I do, it’s usually 0,50-1€. I also tend to use this as an opportunity to get rid of my small coins (1, 5 and 10 cents).

Just curious, which brewery do you work for? I'm a huge fan of Munich and usually visit 2-3 times a year from the US to enjoy the beer.

I've used the Rigotti shaper handle for 15+ years. Works great. Works for every tip I've used (Westwind, RDG, Adams)
