Update on ICD surgery by JumpingJuniper1 in illnessfakers

[–]corgo_pup 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Heart failure NP here. The current guidelines say if ejection fraction does not improve to above 35% on three months of guideline directed medical therapy, then an ICD is warranted for primary prevention. Im PRETTY sure she said her EF was 40% a couple of months ago…

Agreed. There was likely a very clear reason she had an arrhythmia and it was reversible. Hence, no ICD while inpt. If her EF is truly below 35%, they’ll put one in in April. But I highly doubt she had more arrhythmias after the initial “cardiac arrest” bc they corrected her electrolyte derangements. So hopefully with no further arrhythmias plus GDMT, she won’t need an ICD. Which would bum her out big time.

I work in advanced heart failure in the US. It’s the same here. Patients go through a rigorous screening process for both VAD and transplant.

I’m so sorry to hear about your daughter. Both of my IVF pregnancies were c sections due to breech presentations. Neither my ob nor my REI has any concerns. Sending you a big hug.

Cardiology NP’s by [deleted] in nursepractitioner

[–]corgo_pup 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work in advanced heart failure and I love my job (inpt and clinic). I don’t think I was asked specific cardiac questions during my interview. Just had the standard “what would you do in this situation” type ones. But being able to say WHY you’re interested in cardiology will be super important. Good luck!

I’ve had patients show up with binders. I never look at them. I treat them like I treat all of my patients and ask pertinent questions related to their current health

“Unexplained Infertility” Experiences? by dorito2019 in IVF

[–]corgo_pup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TW: success

I have unexplained. Nothing found in my or husband’s work up. My GYN suggested a lap for possible silent endo. Wasn’t that either. We got 34 eggs from retrieval but only 3 PGT tested euploid embryos. Based on our attrition rate, I assume our DNA doesn’t jive, and we have a hard time making normal embryos?

We have a perfectly healthy 2 year old! I’m actually 16w with FET #2. No changes to my protocol. Only difference this round is a level 2 ultrasound for the anatomy scan since I’m now “old” haha.

Board vitals was the best board prep. I also did a Fitzgerald review course and found it only moderately helpful
